17:28 bowtie Kharec, hi
17:33 Roy the Padre for OSX has it's own version of perl supplied? what do I need to install the bare minimum on citrus on OSX?
17:39 Roy if I use cpan under the citrus env/setup and install Padre this should work?
17:47 rindolf Kharec: hi.
18:33 Schemer joined #padre
18:34 Schemer Hey, I have a question about using Padre. anyone available?
18:37 bowtie Roy, see -> http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/DownloadMacOSX
18:38 bowtie Schemer, ok
18:38 Schemer I want to use Padre for my Scheme needs (SICP). how do I connect an interpreter or compiler to it?
18:39 Schemer i have MIT-GNU scheme on my pc
18:40 bowtie Schemer, what is SICP? please
18:41 Schemer Structure and interpretation of Computer programs. a book on computer science that uses Scheme for its examples
18:42 bowtie Schemer, so I think you are asking dose Padre support SICP files
18:42 Schemer I want to know if I can use my current interpreter for Scheme directly from padre
18:42 bowtie Roy, ask stkowski about OSX when he is around
18:45 stkowski Roy - "Bare minimum" on OSX can vary depending on how comfortable you are with altering your system
18:46 stkowski Roy - I do not like altering or adding to the system perl as updates from apple can break things. And it's rather out of date
18:46 stkowski Roy - Padre can run both under Citrus and Darwin ports. Though there is an ecapsulated DMG on that page where you need to install no perls at all for it to work
18:46 Di-ima joined #padre
18:46 bowtie Schemer, Padre uses Wx::Scintilla for rendering, thus if Scintilla supports this file type we do to, http://www.scintilla.org/
18:46 Kharec joined #padre
18:47 bowtie stkowski, thanks
18:47 bowtie stkowski, and Hi :)
18:48 Schemer well, I'm not sure. Scheme is a LISP dialect and Padre can edit LISP apparently. how can i get padre to use my interpreter or compiler?
18:48 stkowski bowtie: Howdy. How goes?
18:49 bowtie stkowski, cool
18:50 bowtie Schemer, if its not directly supported, you would need to write a plugin, look at the Latex one, that should point you in the right direction
18:50 Schemer I'm not very advanced, so I'm not sure if I can write a plug-in. what language do you write them in?
18:51 bowtie Schemer, try here for more info -> http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/Plugins and http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/PadrePluginDialog
18:51 bowtie surprisingly we write in perl :)
18:52 bowtie stkowski, hows the DIY coming along
18:52 bowtie stkowski, still got your blue line?
18:53 Schemer i just started Perl, I'll look if I can find something elsewhere
18:53 Schemer thanks for your help
18:54 stkowski bowtie: Slowly. This week is cleaning out gutters that haven't been touched in decades
18:54 bowtie Schemer, ok, or you could write it with some help and guidance, most plugins are written by devs who have an intrest in that subject
18:55 Schemer i'd like to, but i don't know how. the MIT-GNU Scheme is an open source interpreter, so i guess there's a lot of documentation available, but i really don't know where to start. haven't coded anything like it before
18:55 bowtie stkowski, lol, I have an image of you doing a buster keaton on a ladder :)
18:57 bowtie Schemer, suggest you ask our dev list http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki#Mailinglists some one there my have more knowledge on this subject
19:00 Schemer from your knowledge, how feasible do you think it would be to do this for me? i barely know anything about these things, just started out. it's an interesting project for sure though
19:00 Schemer i'll check out the mailing list for sure
19:01 bowtie Schemer, I know at bit about plugins and nought about SICP
19:02 Schemer SICP is just a computer science book
19:02 Schemer it's very well known so people often refer to it just by the acronym
19:03 bowtie Schemer, ok, I must be one of those that’s never heard of it before today, sorry
19:04 bowtie or MIT-GNU Scheme
19:04 Schemer sorry for using the acronym. but what about the plug-in? do you think it's feasible for me to write a plug-in at the early stage of learning Perl?
19:04 Schemer MIT-GNU Scheme is a scheme interpreter
19:05 bowtie Schemer, as in send contents of Padre editor to an external program
19:06 Schemer Yeah, i want to write my scheme code in padre and send it over to my interpreter or compiler for processing
19:06 Schemer MIT-GNU Scheme isn't nearly as convenient as Padre
19:07 bowtie Schemer, yes, look at PerlTidy, or SpellCheck, both use external apps
19:12 Schemer i know it's possible. i've seen it before on another program, notepad++
19:12 Schemer so, to write this plug-in, i use the development modules from the wiki you showed me earlier?
19:13 Schemer I don't really get how a plug-in works exactly, that's all
19:14 Schemer never written or seen one
19:37 bowtie Schemer, I am the same, regarding SICP / MIT-GNU Scheme
19:40 Schemer the details aren't important. i just need some guidance how to write a plug-in. as in, how do i get padre to send my code, with instructions on what to do with it? where in the padre documentation is the part on plug-in writing?
19:41 Schemer i'll figure out the scheme part myself if i can figure out how to write a plug-in that works for padre

21:19 bowtie mj41, hi
22:02 jkgruet joined #padre
22:04 jkgruet Is there someone who can help me determine if I have a padre bug or am just set-up wrong?
22:19 El_Che hi jkgruet
22:28 jkgruet Hi, El_Che.  My problem concerns the File>Print capability.
22:30 El_Che what about it?
22:32 jkgruet Well, when I do it, I get nothing printed.  Even though CUPS indicates something is being sent to the printer, not even a blank page is output.
22:32 jkgruet When I "print to file", a .ps file shows up, but all it seems to have is some header info:  anyway, a ps2pdf produces a blank sheet.
22:33 El_Che what version of padre are you using
22:33 El_Che ?
22:33 jkgruet Padre 0.90
22:34 El_Che let me install a version (new setup of this pc
22:34 El_Che )
22:37 bowtie rindolf, where can I find the change log for perl5db version 1.39_05 please
22:37 El_Che jkgruet: padre 0.96 does not have a print dialog
22:37 El_Che mmm
22:38 El_Che bowtie: was it removed along the way?
22:38 bowtie El_Che, see ticket
22:38 jkgruet OK.
22:39 rindolf bowtie: in git.
22:39 bowtie El_Che, a long time ago, I put back in, but there’s a but
22:39 El_Che bowtie: I remember something about it
22:40 bowtie El_Che,  see #1443
22:40 bowtie rindolf, can I have a URL please
22:40 rindolf bowtie: yes.
22:41 rindolf bowtie: https://github.com/shlomif/perl/tree/shlomif-perl-d-refactoring
22:42 El_Che bowtie: so in short, we are depending on the wx compile options of Debian
22:43 El_Che bowtie: will it work using Alien:: stuff?
22:45 bowtie El_Che, sorry I did not follow up, so I don't know, I think it's a Wx 2.8 issue, as far as I could tell Wx 2.9 is good to go, let's stkowski as he is running Padre on OSX with Wx 2.9 if I recall
22:46 stkowski I am
22:46 stkowski What;s the issue?
22:46 bowtie rindolf, did you change perl5db.pl or just test files
22:46 bowtie stkowski, can you print from Padre trunk?
22:47 bowtie El_Che, I think win32 users should be ok to print also
22:47 rindolf bowtie: I also changed perl5db.pl.
22:48 rindolf bowtie: I refactored it.
22:48 stkowski Let me update and see
22:49 bowtie rindolf, ok, just tested Debug::Client against 1.39_05, will need to allocate some time to make compatible, no problem
22:49 rindolf bowtie: nice.
22:50 stkowski 2.9.3 / 0.97 prints on Osx
22:50 stkowski using Cirtus Perl
22:50 jkgruet El_Che:  I see I'm a little over my head, but if I'm following y'all aright, File>Print had a problem and, by 0.95 the print dialog was removed.  In other words, it's not a configuration problem on my end.
22:51 bowtie stkowski, thanks, El_Che over to you.
22:52 El_Che jkgruet: yes. The code was commented out because it did not work
22:52 El_Che I am having a look
22:52 El_Che but it looks complicated indeed
22:52 stkowski The layout is screwy…but it does print something
22:53 bowtie lol
22:53 sewi joined #padre
22:53 jkgruet El_Che:  Thank you very much then.  I'm an old-fart-perl-newbie , and have been banging my head against a wall for awhile.  I appreciate what you developers have been doing, and will just keep checking things out until it works.  :-)
22:53 jkgruet Thanks again!
22:54 El_Che Any time.
22:55 bowtie El_Che, are you up to date now :)
22:56 El_Che I wonder if there are printing wx apps on debian
22:57 bowtie I got the impression, you had to cook your own or wait for 2.9
22:58 El_Che querying the package db
22:58 El_Che so the latest ubuntu uses wx 2.8
22:59 bowtie El_Che, yes even 12.10
22:59 bowtie do you want to update #1443
23:00 bowtie I have just expected it's external to Padre :(
23:00 El_Che and all debian releases including unstable and experimental
23:00 bowtie you will need to get an update from dod
23:01 bowtie as ticket is 4 months old
23:04 bowtie El_Che++
23:06 El_Che off to bed
23:07 bowtie night
