11:18 El_Che 3 full perl room in a row!
11:18 El_Che perl-devroom at fosdem
11:21 Kharec El_Che: are you in?
11:21 El_Che yes
11:21 * Kharec too
11:22 El_Che I am the oraganizer with glasses and long black hair at the corner against the windows
11:23 Kharec yup, I saw you.
11:23 El_Che where are you?
11:23 Kharec Blank pull over, in front of the mister that talk :)

14:57 mike When I try to select multiple files in the open file dialog, Padre tells me "$file doesn't exist on-disk, ignore?" -- it looks like it is trying to open a file without using the full path, but just the filename part
14:58 Kharec mike: same issue
14:59 Kharec I'm invastigating but don't find nothing for now.
14:59 El_Che damn, we needs to fix the bug tracker
14:59 El_Che -s
15:00 Kharec What's the matter with the bugtracker?
15:00 El_Che Gabor's servers is somewhat hosed, so that the irc bot and the admin trac login are broken
15:01 mike you should probably stop using trac
15:02 El_Che yeah, I used to find it ok, but I am not hot about it either
15:02 Kharec mike: the trunk version hasn't the bug
15:02 * Kharec has tested just now
15:02 El_Che and it will released soon
15:03 mike lovely
15:03 Kharec :)
15:35 bowtie El_Che, sorry, i was distracted, good that trunk is ok
15:35 Kharec yep
15:36 Mithaldu oh hey, people, let's try this again:
15:36 Mithaldu just tried to install Padre and get this: http://paste.scsys.co.uk/227140
15:38 bowtie Mithaldu, what version of perl are you using?
15:38 bowtie also what language?
15:38 Mithaldu activperl, german
15:38 Mithaldu 5.12.4
15:39 bowtie is that strawberry or active
15:40 Mithaldu as i said
15:40 Mithaldu activeperl
15:40 bowtie Mithaldu, I can only make suggestions here as I am a Linux bod :)
15:41 El_Che windows 8?
15:41 Mithaldu 7
15:41 Mithaldu i'm honestly not really looking for suggestions so much as trying to help you fix this because it's terrible for perl marketing
15:41 Mithaldu i'm fine with komodo
15:41 El_Che We had a user having a problem that perl didn't correctly detect his version
15:42 Mithaldu but if people with activeperl can't install this you're losing out on your target demographic
15:42 bowtie we need to ask MarkD
15:42 Mithaldu (it's bad enough that i had to install Alien::wxWidgets from ppm, as Alien:: modules should *ease* binary installations)
15:44 Mithaldu actually, now that i think about it
15:44 Mithaldu looks like the ppm version of wx is either borked
15:44 Mithaldu or padre is not compatible with the latest versions of it
15:45 Mithaldu oh, great, module::install
15:46 bowtie padre trunk ok with Alien::wxWidgets 0.62
15:46 Mithaldu i have .61
15:48 bowtie Mithaldu, why you don't like module::install?
15:49 Mithaldu it's entire design idea is just plain a mistake, too magical, too implicit
15:49 Mithaldu and a pain in the ass to debug
15:50 bowtie in that case you’ll hate module::install::dsl which I like :)
15:51 Mithaldu i have no opinion on it
15:51 Mithaldu by the point you've chose M::I you've already actively chosen the worst contender
15:52 SvenDowideit joined #padre
15:52 bowtie Ah, you will have to take that up with AdamK
15:52 Mithaldu i would if he was appreciably active ;)
15:53 Mithaldu what i've done instead is start maintaining things he didn't have the time to care for
15:53 Mithaldu anyhow, gimme a ping when you need more debug info
15:57 El_Che Mithaldu: are you the new Adam? :)
16:00 Mithaldu far from it
16:00 Mithaldu i'm just annoyed that padre isn't tested for its intended audience
16:01 bowtie we do seam to be a bit light of win32 devs at the moment
16:01 El_Che yes, that sucks. We need more Windows devs
16:01 bowtie I concur
16:01 Mithaldu ah, i didn't know that
16:01 Mithaldu well
16:02 Mithaldu i can't help with C stuff
16:02 Mithaldu but any windows questions you have or windows testing you need done, let me know
16:04 bowtie Mithaldu, do you have a working copy of Padre trunk, if so can you run tests and xt for us please
16:04 Mithaldu i have no idea when it last worked, because i'm not a padre user
16:05 Mithaldu oh god, you keep saying trunk, you guys are on svn too, aren't you?
16:05 El_Che I am at fosdem, and you're the second person that mentions "oh, no, svn"
16:05 El_Che :)
16:05 Mithaldu give that person a high-5 please
16:06 Mithaldu wonder if Locale::Msgfmt is gonna install
16:06 Mithaldu it did
16:07 Mithaldu bowtie: any suggestions for revisions to revert to to see if makefile.pl might not bail?
16:07 bowtie there is an unofficial on github - https://github.com/PadreIDE if that helps
16:07 Mithaldu i don't complain about svn because you make me use it
16:07 Mithaldu i complain because it actively results in worse code than git
16:08 Mithaldu i.e. the problem is that you're not using git :P
16:08 bowtie I think you are refering to the openness of pull reqs here
16:09 Mithaldu nope
16:09 Mithaldu i'm talking about proper branching, rebasing and most importantly, the active code double-checking created by using git-gui or git add -p to craft commits
16:10 bowtie Mithaldu, ok, I will go read some more, thanks for that, any think else I should read about?
16:11 Mithaldu oh hey, you're actually interested? :)
16:12 Mithaldu http://blip.tv/open-source-developers-conference/git-for-ages-4-and-up-4460524
16:12 Mithaldu this one's a bit of a must-see
16:12 bowtie yes, I updated the padre-plugin-git as a way to learn what all the fuss was about with mj41 giving me a kick or to on the way
16:12 Mithaldu also, basically
16:12 Mithaldu all you need to know is this:
16:12 Mithaldu my git flow is
16:12 Mithaldu hackhackhackhack
16:12 Mithaldu open git-gui
16:12 Mithaldu click together commits
16:13 Mithaldu notice mistake in code i made
16:13 Mithaldu hackhackhack
16:13 Mithaldu go back to git gui
16:13 Mithaldu when i've put everything in logical commits, push
16:13 bowtie it's nice to see some passion :)
16:13 Mithaldu in svn that would be
16:13 Mithaldu hackhackhackhack
16:14 Mithaldu "welp, can't commit individual lines, so ..." svn commit
16:14 Mithaldu *wait for users to come back with silly mistakes i made in my hacking
16:14 Mithaldu go back to step 1
16:15 Mithaldu the result is worse code, slower coding, and an annoying history with a lot of "oops, fix this thing from 4 commits ago"
16:16 bowtie Mithaldu, yes, I have experienced this my self, with pp-git which is on both svn and git, I now do to git first, then keep svn up to date
16:16 Mithaldu \o/
16:16 Mithaldu cheers
16:17 Mithaldu i did try working with git-svn for a while
16:17 Mithaldu but it was so slow :(
16:18 bowtie I use a hack script to just update another dir, then svn co, it's a bit naff, but I am starting to like github, even if it's not open
16:18 El_Che so are you for git, or more against svn? do you like mercurial and co?
16:18 bowtie don't know mercurial and co
16:19 El_Che bowtie: isn't http://gitorious.org/ the free alternative?
16:19 Mithaldu mercurial i don't like because it lacks the rewriting of git history
16:19 Mithaldu also, personally i'd recommend using gitlab
16:19 Mithaldu it's the least broken github clone
16:19 bowtie gitlab will add to my list
16:19 Mithaldu just make sure you always mirror to github and take pull reqs and issues from there
16:25 bowtie gitorious well is it every thing that GitHub should be, is it gaining ground ?
16:25 bowtie ps funny name
16:26 Mithaldu last i checked its interface wasn't very good
16:26 Mithaldu but i might be wrong
16:26 bowtie but it is open, yes
16:26 Mithaldu important part is the ability to view a repository's history as a graph
16:26 Mithaldu and it didn't have that
16:27 bowtie Mithaldu, please, what other features are important
16:27 Mithaldu pull requests
16:28 Mithaldu easy forking of repos between accounts
16:28 Mithaldu ability to give multiple people access to a repo at once
16:28 bowtie thanks for that
16:29 Mithaldu i can't remember if other things are important right now, but those are things to look out for :)
16:31 bowtie Mithaldu, any critiques welcome - http://padre.perlide.org/trac/wiki/PadrePluginGit
16:31 Mithaldu i'm busy with someone else right now, but i'll take a look when i have time :)
16:32 bowtie thanks, I will look forward to it :)
