18:41 Yeti Hello.  I have a question concerning a broken Padre system.
18:41 Yeti I had a crash while debugging and now I cannot get Padre to start the cmd shell in Windows 7.
18:42 Yeti I will not interact at all.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled and even borrowed registry settings from a working system.  With no luck.
18:42 El_Che Yeti: maybe (backupping &) deleting the settings?
18:42 El_Che .padre in *nix, I don't know by heart the name of the dir in windows
18:43 Yeti I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled.  Removing all directories and some of the registry as well.   Doesn't seem to matter.
18:44 Yeti I have even removed everything and recreated the Windows Profile and it isn't able to start Perl
18:44 El_Che can you run perl from the command box?
18:44 El_Che (in the case perl is broken and not padre as such)
18:45 Yeti Unless the settings are outside of the dwimperl directory they have been removed and reinstalled quite a few times.
18:45 Yeti will give it a try
18:47 Yeti I can run dwimperl from the DOS command line ok, but cannot be invoked by the Padre Debugger anymore.
18:48 Yeti rebuilding the OS is the only other thing I can do without knowing what the triggers between Padre and the cmd shell are.
18:48 Yeti or registry keys
18:50 El_Che that is weird
18:50 Yeti yup, I know
18:51 El_Che silly question, is the shell thing still ticked in preferences?
18:51 Yeti let me check
18:53 Yeti I'm new to Padre, where is that specifically located, I'm still looking and comparing to another instance that works.
18:54 Yeti on a different system
18:56 Yeti The Perl 5 section has the Enable Perl Beginner Mode and Use external window for execution both checked as the working instance does
18:58 Yeti I am looking at the Advanced Settings window from Preferences | Perl 5.  Are there a setting in there I should be looking at?
19:02 Yeti The bin_shell setting is set to cmd.exe which seems appropriate for windows.
19:07 El_Che that looks ok
19:11 Yeti I'm kind of thinking a registry issue since it survives across installs and profiles
19:12 Yeti been searching through the registry too, without any luck though
19:12 Yeti only other thing would be a file outside of the dwimperl directory.  Although I couldn't find one anywhere with basic searching
19:25 Yeti not really seeing any problems yet in the registry

19:27 Yeti so Padre won't invoke the Perl, but Perl works fine from the command line, clicking on Run gets no response and the debugger opens and then fails
19:28 El_Che bowtie: reading Yeti's question? (bowtie wrote Debug::Client)
19:33 Yeti If I invoke the Debugger, then Padre simply stops responding.  Says so in the top window border... Padre (Not Responding)
19:35 Yeti Just hangs until I close it.  Nothing in the Windoze Events either
19:35 Yeti Any logging that I can turn on for Padre.  Haven't seen any yet.
19:43 El_Che the development release can run in debug mode
19:54 Yeti Not seeing the Development Release on your site or SourceForge, so...
19:56 Yeti So, perhaps CPAN then?
19:58 Yeti just found the Pages for Padre Developers link
20:01 El_Che https://github.com/PadreIDE/Padre
20:23 Yeti gotta go for today
