19:30 Util Hello! Who all is in attendance?
19:31 rurban_ me
19:32 rurban_ too busy with perl5 work
19:32 Util Thanks for attending
19:34 Util rurban_: I received a question about making a perl script tamper-proof,
19:34 Util for the purposes of both security and
19:34 Util "not having the full power of a scripting language laying around on the box to be abused by the users".
19:34 Util I suggested perl-compiler.org; was this an appropriate use of your compiler?
19:34 rurban_ yes
19:35 rurban_ he just needs to assure that all run-time loaded modules are compiled in also.
19:35 rurban_ but perl5 does not really support proper sandboxing
19:36 rurban_ Safe is not really usable
19:36 rurban_ but perl6/parrot neither
19:38 rurban_ i.e. forbid access to networking/filesystem/processes or in his case just to perl and it's modules, which might be too powerful
19:39 Util I suspect that as long as the function of the program cannot be altered by simple text edits, it is sufficient security.
19:41 rurban_ Not for cPanel. But probably for him :)
19:42 Util How is it insufficent for cPanel?
19:42 rurban_ We have higher security standards
19:43 rurban_ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_application_security has a good overview
19:44 Util Oh, of course, since cPanel code is in a web environment. I expect this app to be on a single machine.
19:45 rurban_ cPanel code runs about 70% of the internet, yes
19:45 Util :)
19:47 rurban_ but for just being tamper-proof there are entries the http://www.perl-compiler.org/perlcompile.html#other_perl_to_exe_compilers
19:47 rurban_ Filter has several decrypters
19:49 Util Thanks!
20:00 Util Anything else before we adjourn? From anyone?
20:02 Util OK, then. Meeting adjourned. Thanks!
