14:39 run4flat o/
14:39 run4flat haha
14:39 run4flat liddle is still running
14:39 run4flat :-)
14:39 lungching it's training for a marathon :)
14:40 run4flat oh, hey, lungching, I'm geographically much closer to you now
14:40 run4flat I just moved to Carlisle, PA
14:40 lungching oh, cool!
14:40 run4flat and, alas, much farther from preaction
14:40 lungching did you get a new job?
14:41 run4flat yep
14:41 lungching whatcha doing now?
14:41 run4flat Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics at Dickinson
14:41 run4flat I'm typing on my computer
14:41 lungching very funny :)
14:41 * run4flat thought that was obvious
14:41 lungching you could be using some cool speech typing thing
14:42 run4flat hmm...
14:42 run4flat or "Swype"ing on my phone, I guess
14:42 lungching are you going to try to be more involved in pittsburgh perl stuff?
14:42 lungching yeah, the future is crazy, isn't it
14:43 run4flat I'm equally close to Pittsburgh and Baltimore
14:43 run4flat so I hope to be partially involved in both
14:43 lungching cool
14:44 lungching the person who runs the baltimore group will be thrilled
14:44 run4flat Yeah, I figured. :-)
14:44 lungching she's getting used to being a new mom so is, little by little, devoting more time to PM stuff
14:44 run4flat It's also about as easy (hard) to get to Bethlehem, so I might go visit Ricardo's PM
14:45 run4flat Bethlehem, PA, that is
14:46 lungching you're like a spider in the middler of perl web
14:46 run4flat and yet, there's nothing in Carlisle or Harrisburg. :-(
14:46 lungching maybe you can start a group
14:46 run4flat I've thought about it
14:47 run4flat we'll see
14:47 run4flat I may be too busy with teaching to run my own PM group
14:47 run4flat I should see if there are any local unix groups, and hop in there
14:48 lungching or hacker spaces
14:48 run4flat hmm, hadn't heard of that, but will look into it
14:49 lungching they're usually interested in some combination of hardware and software
14:50 run4flat well, one of my courses this fall is analog and digital circuits, so I'll at least be conversant
14:50 run4flat could be fun
14:51 run4flat Maybe I'll finally learn how to play with Arduinos
14:51 lungching well, there you go then :)
14:51 lungching blackwell will be thrilled
14:53 run4flat btw, does dc-baltimore have an irc channel?
14:53 lungching just #dcbpw
14:53 lungching but it's pretty inactive when we're not planning a workshop
15:05 run4flat tanks!
15:05 run4flat s/tanks/thanks/
15:06 * run4flat is a peace advocate
15:14 lungching :)
15:30 lungching speaking of baltimore.pm, dawn just sent an email reminding everyone that there's a meeting this thursday
15:30 lungching run4flat: ^^
15:36 _vicash_ joined #pdl
15:37 run4flat lungching: thanks.
15:37 run4flat can you forward that to me?
15:37 run4flat dcmertens.perl@gmail.com
15:38 lungching sure, doing that now ...
15:38 lungching sent
15:39 run4flat thanks!
16:30 gtodd can one trivially  use Statistics::R from the PDL shell ?
16:38 gtodd sometimes with perl modules from CPAN not specific to PDL I have to not be strict use global variables etc.
16:39 gtodd since I have no real understanding of the internals of PDL and it's REPL/shell I'm not complaining ...:-)
16:50 run4flat gtodd: I suspect you can use it from the PDL shell without any trouble
16:51 run4flat the only "trick" is that lexical scopes don't work
16:51 run4flat which means that if you say "my $var = Statistics::R->new", $var won't be accessible on your next line
16:55 gtodd right
16:56 run4flat awe, looks like liddle is down for the count
16:56 run4flat unless I SSH onto that machine and start it back up
16:56 gtodd hmm the perl debugger is like that too .... somehow Devel::REPL has solved  this
16:57 gtodd thanks
16:57 run4flat gtodd: there are ways to solve this using something like Lexical::Vars (I think)
16:57 run4flat perldl2 might solve this
16:58 _vicash_ joined #pdl
17:02 sivoais yeah, if you load the Devel::REPL::Plugin::LexEnv plugin
17:03 sivoais actually, that's loaded by default?
17:03 * run4flat isn't sure
17:03 run4flat If I had to guess, I would expect it's loaded by default
17:26 chm joined #pdl
17:28 chm gtodd: The pdl2 shell (based on Devel::REPL) supports lexical contexts in the shell session.
17:28 chm Work to integrate lexical piddles in the session via 'help vars' is still in progress.
17:30 chm run4flat: Welcome to the much greater D.C. area.
17:30 chm Sorry I haven't gotten through updating the previous PDL3 docs
17:31 chm Nor have I been able to stand up a proposed web2project plan for the same.
17:31 chm I've been trying to work on some Alien::XXX stuff for PDL3 but have been unable
17:32 chm to close the loop with jberger so I don't step on anything he is doing with the Alien::Base work.
17:32 chm See http://mailman.jach.hawaii.edu/pipermail//pdl-porters/2013-July/005724.html for details.
18:51 gtodd chm excellent thanks
19:26 _vicash_ joined #pdl
23:42 jberger chm, I'm not sure what else you are looking for with the Alien::XXX modules
23:42 jberger I have read your emails (sorry I have been very busy settling into my new job)
23:42 jberger is there something laking in the Alien::Base system?
