16:22 vicash has anyone been successful in using Prima with AnyEvent ? I am having trouble writing a simple GUI app that can connect to a server where I use AnyEvent IO watcher with Prima. AnyEvent supports POE which is what Prima uses internally. The socket connects but the callback is not called. I also tried with Prima::File and have the same problem.
16:29 sivoais vicash: have you seen <http://blogs.perl.org/users/egor/2013/05/perl-live-coding.html>?
16:35 vicash sivoais: that is cool but how does it help me ? His code is not using Prima. Without calling "run Prima" my code works but as soon as I call it all socket code stops working. i have emailed on the AnyEvent mailing list and am waiting for a response. figured maybe someone here must have used it.
16:39 sivoais vicash: in the gist mentioned in the video, he does <https://gist.github.com/vividsnow/5596062>
16:43 vicash sivoais: thanks. looking at it seriously now.
17:02 vicash sivoais: Awesome. All I had to do was use $::application->yield in a timer instead of using "run Prima"!!!! so easy. thanks a lot. i spent more than an hour playing around but your link helped me in 5 min.
17:02 sivoais awesome!
17:03 sivoais seems like recording this knowledge somewhere would be good for the next person that has a similar problem
17:03 sivoais Prima doc-patch? ;-)
18:23 Mithaldu does pdl have a random function for the rayleigh distribution?
18:24 vicash sivoais: sure. i will provide a doc patch soon.
18:24 * vicash needs to reboot quickly
18:24 vicash left #pdl
18:29 sivoais Mithaldu: doesn't look like it, but GSL does: <http://p3rl.org/Math::GSL::CDF>, <http://p3rl.org/Math::GSL::Randist>
18:30 Mithaldu hrm, this doesn't look promising: http://matrix.cpantesters.org/?dist=Math-GSL+0.27
18:30 Mithaldu thanks though :)
18:31 sivoais Mithaldu: oh, or you could send a patch to PDL::Stats. It also wraps GSL using PP
18:35 Mithaldu that's fairly out of my scope atm :x
18:36 Mithaldu i just wanted to see if i can use those for an easy example of things

18:49 Mithaldu is there an operator override for cat?
18:50 Mithaldu hm, doesn't look like it
18:52 Mithaldu oh ffff
18:52 Mithaldu how do i simply concatenate two piddles into a new one
18:53 Mithaldu clearly it's append despite the name suggesting something else :(
18:53 sivoais hehe, yeah, append or glue
18:54 Mithaldu well, at least the result is pretty: https://plot.ly/~mithaldu_api_test/30/
18:54 sivoais neat!
18:55 Mithaldu ps, if you can point me to some data i can graph in pretty ways with this, that'd be much appreciated: https://plot.ly/api/
18:57 sivoais stuff like <http://bost.ocks.org/mike/>? :-)
18:57 Mithaldu perl-related would be nice
18:57 Mithaldu just looking for 1 or 2 examples that would speak to perl people :)
18:58 Mithaldu and/or pdl people specifically
18:59 sivoais maybe try use the CPAN recent upload times for something?
18:59 Mithaldu yes, that's my first thoughtt
18:59 Mithaldu graphing some of that
18:59 Mithaldu just looking for a few more
19:00 sivoais or something with MetaCPAN. Size of distrib, top-level namespace (a categorical variable), size of RT queue ;-)
19:01 Mithaldu that's an idea
19:01 Mithaldu thanks :)
