03:57 gtodd jberger can haz irc @everywhere
11:44 jberger_ :-)
14:22 gtodd hmm so ... Gadfly  is ~ 7000 loc ... the julialang part of it ... and can handle plotting/graphics for pdf svg png and basicailly gets d3.js/html5 to do everything for web browser based plotting ...
14:28 gtodd it must use cairo/pango etc. (do those work on windows?) for the ps/pdf/svg bits but for the browser plotting seems to makeit possible to use d3 without messing around (as much) with javascript. Wasn't someone in here doing something similar - browser based plots - at one time ?
14:43 sivoais gtodd: I was working on it (ENOTIME) and I know jberger_ used flot.js before
14:48 gtodd right ok I remember now ..
14:50 gtodd thanks ... hope that error condition rectifies :) ..
14:52 sivoais hehe, me too. I should have more time during December
14:52 gtodd it'd be neat if there was something like Gadfly for perl/pdl :)
14:58 gtodd at least earlier versions of the julia web REPL seemed to have html5 plotting "built in" so maybe the architecture of things it too different ... but superficially it looks so much like python it makes it seem almost "portable" ...
15:05 gtodd there's already Graph::D3 on CPAN.  I guess if one uses d3 a lot but from other languages I can see how one might want to hide/automate some of the JS creation.
15:12 sivoais ah, yeah, I've seen that. That's just a graph theory type of graph. I've been thinking about a sort of proxy object that runs JS whenever calls are made on it.
15:12 sivoais The IPython Notebook people have been working on bidirectional calls between Python and JS quite recently actually
15:12 sivoais I need to see how they approach it
15:48 * pdurbin was pretty impressed by IPython Notebook
16:17 gtodd cool
16:17 gtodd sivoais: so your idea would be more "live"
17:33 sivoais yeah, that's exactly what I want to target. I especially want to be able to manipulate 3D volumes in the browser since that would be great for my research

20:27 jberger_ for two-way data flow between javascript client and Perl application, I HIGHLY suggest looking into Mojolicious, which has this all built-in
20:27 jberger_ websockets
