03:34 chm Mithaldu : I'm not sure what this means -> "amazed that me bolting shit sideways onto OpenGL.pm actually works"
03:35 chm Mithaldu : [ list( $self->CameraPos * -1 ) ] seems like ok code to me---I would expect it to work.  Why should it fail?
03:36 chm jberger : regarding Alien:Base on windows, I tried to install Alien::qd on SPP 32bit and it just hung forever without any output in the compile the qd part.
03:36 chm That was just one picked at random.
03:37 chm jberger, Mithaldu : I took a look at the dots.pm discussion, the problem wasn't bugs, just complexity.
03:38 jberger strawberry doesn't have a full build chain, the author probably should have built a binary for windows and bundled it
03:38 chm I agree that putting something like that into the perl5 parser would be problematic and confusing.
03:38 chm Still, in a limited use for PDL to allow identical syntax for method calls as Ruby, Python, Java, C++,... it might have value
03:39 jberger chm, (re: dots) I disagree strongly, as I have said before
03:39 jberger arrows are part of Perl
03:39 chm jberger : the point was that the list of Alien::XXX modules doesn't mean they work generally.  That is the problem and a difficult one to solve.
03:39 jberger unless all method invocation can be dots (ie via dots.pm) then having two different constructs will be worse
03:40 chm I agree with that and am not saying I think it would be perfect.
03:41 chm However.......if that ugliness meant that PDL would start to have a growing and involved user base and multiple active developers, I would be willing to accept it.  :-)
03:41 chm Again, we're back to my "dark matter" hypothesis about not understanding what PDL needs to grow and flourish.
03:42 chm The dots.pm changed all -> derefs to . and moved . to ~
03:42 chm My thought was much more limited in scope: just method calls.
03:43 chm Again, I'm not pushing this, I just think that it could affect the perceptions of PDL by other non-perl users.
03:43 chm Personally, I like -> but if Numpy users would try PDL if they just had their dots, I would be happy to give them to them...
03:44 chm Assuming it could be implemented reasonably, of course
03:44 chm BTW, I was thinking to add dots as an alias for -> and not replacing it.
04:13 chm good night,o/

18:50 webart hmm via typo (c and d are close on querty) I found PCL  http://pointclouds.org/
19:15 webart sort of a cool library  ... wonder if PCL and OpenCV would let PDL cool fast 3D data acquisition :)
19:16 webart usually typos/spelling correction for PDL got to PDF not PCL
