15:17 vicash hey.. now that the perl blog site has been hacked, do you think they will move off Movable Type and use a more free and secure CMS ? i found it odd that a perl oriented site running PHP ?
15:20 Mithaldu movabletype is perl
15:20 vicash yet the hack was a PHP hack
15:20 Mithaldu that's no surprise
15:20 Mithaldu actually, no
15:21 Mithaldu the backdoor installed was php
15:21 vicash oh ok
15:21 Mithaldu doesn't mean they got in through php
15:21 vicash ok.. that means that the Apache server running the site was also running mod_php in addition to mod_perl or whatever the corresponding libraries are for Nginx or Lighttpd
15:22 vicash which is why one could execute a PHP script. if mod_php is not loaded PHP will render as text
15:22 Mithaldu possibly
15:22 Mithaldu i'm not even sure why they keep it read-only
15:33 vicash seems like inadequate sys-admin work.
15:33 vicash esp with all the hacking going around over the last few years, one should have slightly spent a day fixing all the holes.
15:34 vicash maybe it is all volunteers and there is no time
15:37 Mithaldu p much that
15:37 Mithaldu and that it's an installation of commercial software
15:37 Mithaldu so dave can't really give people the source
15:37 Mithaldu feel free to look up how much mt costs
15:38 vicash agreed
15:38 vicash i had read about MT's backpedalling to commercial only mode a while back
15:42 Mithaldu oh, link?
15:42 * vicash searching
15:43 vicash https://tp2wp.com/2013/07/movable-type-6-to-abandon-gpl-move-to-commercial-license/
15:49 Mithaldu wow, they really seem to be suiciding
15:50 vicash well, i guess the developers need to make more money. But blogs.perl.org was running MT4 as per Dave Cross.
15:51 vicash there was a mention on another site where he responded to some comments on forking it because MT4 is GPL
15:51 vicash http://perlhacks.com/2014/01/blogs-perl-org/  Here in the bottom comments i think I read something like that.
15:53 Mithaldu yeah, i know
15:55 Mithaldu "What I can say is that someone managed to upload a PHP file into the MT PHP library directory, and that program was then able to access the MT database and extract the contents of the MT table."
15:57 vicash sounds like bad sys-admin work to me rather than an MT problem
19:54 vicash left #pdl

21:13 vicash hi. needed some advice. I am trying to do some code generation in PIC microcontroller assembly using Perl. I have written high-level code in Perl and want to parse it using Perl and generate inline assembly for a microcontroller that i have to do a project with. Is Inline the best module to use in this scenario ? Or is there another module that can help me parse Perl itself and have tokenizers etc. If there is an IRC channel that I could be asking this question
21:21 sivoais vicash: if I understand you correctly, you want parse Perl code, right? I think what you want is PPI, but I haven't used it myself. <https://metacpan.org/pod/PPI>
21:26 vicash sivoais: yes. thanks. i will research it.
21:29 sivoais other tools for parsing some subset of Perl are listed at <http://perl11.org/>, but again, I haven't used them
21:32 vicash cool. i joined #inline and there is only 1 person in it :)
21:32 Mithaldu vicash: PPI should help you the most, feel free to poke me with questions
21:33 vicash Mithaldu: thanks. i will.
