14:26 robinsmidsrod anyone around able to help me getting started with PDL? I've got a problem I think could be solved by using PDL::Image2D::cc8compt, but I don't know how I'm going to get my image loaded so I can actually run this function on it...
14:27 robinsmidsrod I'm trying to separate multiple disjoint "islands" in a picture with a transparent background
14:28 robinsmidsrod my plan is to use imagemagick to floodfill and extract an alphachannel that is the mask itself, and then use cc8compt to split out the distinct images in the single scanned image
15:31 robinsmidsrod how come this syntax from the PDL book doesn't work on perl 5.16.2? $section = $gal(337:357, 178:198)

17:15 chm You'll need a use PDL::NiceSlice; line to enable the "math-like" indexing support.
17:16 chm Also, general PDL support is via the perldl mailing list.  Sign up at http://mailman.jach.hawaii.edu/mailman/listinfo/perldl
17:17 chm Best way to get starting with PDL is using the interactive shell, pdl2 (or perldl) and use on-line help and apropos for documentation.
17:37 jberger chm: I'm planning on making a github organization for the continued development of Alien::Base
17:37 jberger I don't think I've been an especially good steward of it lately, most notably because I no longer need it
17:38 jberger I hope you will be part of that team
17:39 jberger I know of at least one other person who is interested and who had actively been contributing
