09:17 cbmuser Hi! I'm a Debian Developer and just saw that the pdl package in Debian is still in a sad state with one RC bug since it fails to build on several architectures.
09:17 cbmuser are there any attempts made in fixing the test-suite failures?
09:18 cbmuser the Debian maintainer of the pdl package happens to be a friend of mine
09:18 cbmuser but he is currently very busy with his PhD
09:18 mohawk test-suite failures within PDL?
09:18 cbmuser so I was wondering whether there is something we could do to fix the package before Debian Jessie is released
09:19 mohawk when is Jessie's deadline?
09:19 cbmuser freeeze is on November 4th
09:19 cbmuser if it's not fixed until then, it won't be in Jessie
09:19 cbmuser a log of a failed build can be found here: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=pdl&arch=powerpc&ver=1%3A2.007-2&stamp=1404609667
09:20 cbmuser Henning told me the issue arose when he enabled the testsuite runs during the build
09:25 mohawk for those reading along at home, the only bit of that vast file cbm linked to that matters is the last 40 lines or so
09:25 mohawk 3 of the tests failed
09:26 mohawk cbmuser, are you on pdl-users mailing list?
09:26 mohawk those who can do something about this will certainly be interested, but they're inactive right now
09:26 mohawk they'll see this discussion and want to follow up
09:27 mohawk suggest you email a summary with the last 100 lines of that page to pdl-users, after you've signed up?
09:27 mohawk the perldl list, on here: http://pdl.perl.org/?page=mailing-lists
09:27 mohawk questions?
09:29 cbmuser ok, can do
09:29 cbmuser I'm not really a Perl expert though
09:29 cbmuser just wanted to help to get the package back into a better shape
09:30 cbmuser so, I need some help from people who know the code
09:30 cbmuser I can do full uploads etc
09:30 mohawk sign up to perldl
09:30 mohawk that's definitely at least one step in the right direction
09:31 cbmuser ok
09:31 mohawk thanks for the volunteer effort for pdl
09:31 mohawk i know those in charge really appreciate it
09:31 cbmuser sure

10:50 chm cbmuser: Thanks for the alert.  I don't think we have any test reports from PowerPC systems.
10:51 chm A quick look suggests that this particular failure comes from the SLATEC code.
10:52 chm Is there a list of the failing tests and system types?
10:52 chm It is quite possible that there is a developing problem with the SLATEC
10:53 chm code resulting from the stagnation of the current implementation and the
10:53 chm evolution of gfortran features and f77 support thereof.
10:59 cbmuser there is a bug report in Debian for it: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=735623
10:59 cbmuser you can cut out ia64, it's no longer an official architecture
10:59 cbmuser as for the other systems, I have access to several systems with these architectures
11:00 cbmuser so I could test patches
11:00 cbmuser if you don't have access to ppc, mips, s390x etc
11:25 chm That will be a help.  I'll open a bug ticket based on this information.
11:25 chm Is there a way to contact you for additional info and/or help?
