19:11 azawawi hi #pdl
19:12 azawawi http://pasteboard.co/Rf4GUPc.png   # an initial working example of a Perl 6 implementation of a iPython-like notebook UI
19:12 azawawi http://pasteboard.co/RyTWNQi.png # the REPL ... WIP
19:24 sivoais sweeet!
19:24 sivoais :-D
19:26 sivoais relevant to PDL: question about machine learning on /r/perl <http://www.reddit.com/r/perl/comments/2ixq01/cpan_module_or_whatever_to_generate_a_model_from/>
19:27 sivoais too bad there aren't an CPAN modules for regression trees
19:27 sivoais *any
19:34 * azawawi an echo is heard in the chamber
19:35 sivoais :-P
19:38 sivoais azawawi: are you thinking of serialization yet?
19:38 azawawi notebook serialization you mean?
19:38 sivoais yep
19:38 azawawi yes im thinking of saving it as a json
19:38 azawawi perl6 is soooooo sloooooooww lol
19:38 azawawi but it is fun
19:39 azawawi it has a more natural syntax once you understand its hidden powers
19:40 azawawi sivoais: watch this for fun :)
19:40 azawawi sivoais: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDba4yaNymI
19:40 sivoais Yeah! I've been following it and doing small concepts with it. It reads beautifully if you use the idioms
19:40 sivoais ok, I'll check that out now! :-)
19:41 sivoais oh, you might want to look at interop with IPython's JSON format: <http://ipython.org/ipython-doc/dev/notebook/nbconvert.html#notebook-json-file-format>
19:41 sivoais then you can take advantage of <http://nbviewer.ipython.org/> :-)
19:42 azawawi http://feather.perl6.nl:3030/  # so slow but fun in the end :)
19:43 azawawi that and im using a 2-core AMD fx-8150 to develop it lol
19:43 azawawi instead of 8 cores...
19:43 azawawi that cpu overheats and shutdowns my machine lol
19:43 azawawi btw, use chrome if possible
19:44 sivoais oh... switching to Chrome
19:44 azawawi firefox sends some HTTP requests that breaks down my primitive PSGI-based web server :)
19:45 sivoais why is it taking so long to load! :-O
19:45 azawawi lol
19:45 sivoais now it's down!
19:45 azawawi the web server keeps croaking lol
19:45 azawawi nvm
19:46 azawawi thanks for trying it out :)
19:46 azawawi you can install rakudo star and then panda install Farabi6 to try it locally
19:46 azawawi i will look at the stability issues next... it is pretty annoying
19:46 sivoais hehehe, well... I hope it gets better. Does it work with rakudo-jvm?
19:47 azawawi it is now using moarvm
19:47 azawawi didnt try it to be honest
19:47 azawawi even though the jvm is a better choice for server apps
19:52 pdurbin azawawi: you're talking about running perl 6 on the jvm?
19:54 vicash yea you should run perl6 on the JVM and use perl6 to fork and launch ruby which downloads a python script to launch a bash shell to run "echo"
19:54 azawawi pdurbin: rakudo Perl 6 can do that but now MoarVM (C-based) seems to be getting more traction
19:54 azawawi pdurbin: jvm is one of the backend for Rakudo Perl 6
19:54 azawawi pdurbin: parrot (old), jvm and moar
19:59 pdurbin so moar is getting traction but for now the jvm is recommended for server apps
20:01 azawawi jvm is designed for server apps in mind
20:01 azawawi a server application does not need fast startup
20:02 azawawi fast execution later will be better with its JIT eventually
20:02 azawawi see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHjF3WujAu8
20:06 pdurbin ok. thanks
20:07 azawawi np
