01:56 mohawk sivoais, as usual: loving your work
01:58 sivoais mohawk: :-D
02:00 sivoais I think I might be getting comaint on two modules: Font::FreeType (last release 2004) and Metaweb (last release 2007)
02:01 sivoais code necromancy ftw!
02:03 mohawk sivoais, welcome to my world
02:03 mohawk cf inline::{java,struct}
02:03 mohawk sivoais++
02:03 mohawk PDL sweepstake: which year do we think PDL 2.008 will be released?
02:04 mohawk did i say year?
02:04 mohawk i meant decade
02:06 sivoais hey now...2020 is a waaay off :-P
02:08 mohawk BANTER
02:09 mohawk so i'm just looking at PDL's build system (again) given my recent change to EUMM
02:09 mohawk now that XSMULTI works, that should greatly simplify things
02:09 sivoais XSMULTI?
02:10 mohawk https://github.com/Perl-Toolchain-Gang/ExtUtils-MakeMaker/pull/168
02:10 mohawk oh, if only i had commit privileges on PDL
02:10 mohawk what wonders i could achieve
02:10 mohawk too bad, PDL
02:10 mohawk too bad
02:12 sivoais interesting. mohawk, is this something that will be used for say, Inline::CPP?
02:12 sivoais maybe if you have a large number of C++ classes to build
02:12 mohawk of course, since i'm formally part of the Perl-Toolchain-Gang, the PR is simply to facilitate the process of settling all the VMS changes in 7.02
02:13 mohawk i could simply commit to master, but i won't do that since the current mission is to settle 7.04 with those fixes
02:13 mohawk before we get cray-cray with 7.05
02:13 sivoais I love that Perl works under VMS. Not many other languages can say that with confidence.
02:13 mohawk because we're a team and we work well together
02:14 mohawk sivoais, my next magnum opus is to make EUMM work well with *.xsp (XS written in C++)
02:14 mohawk i'll exploit the code i got davido to unify into ExtUtils::CppGuess to make that easy
02:14 mohawk naturally, that will ease I::CPP
02:15 sivoais sounds cool. There's a lot of C++ code out there that needs Perl bindings.
02:15 mohawk currently you could bodge it with XSUBPPARGS=> '-C++' or somesuch
02:15 mohawk but we can do this thing properly and i intend to
02:16 mohawk doing things properly is kind of my thing
02:16 mohawk not to big-time or anything ;-)
02:17 mohawk sivoais, another mission of mine is to unify perl<->C++
02:17 mohawk i got me yet another "vision" on that
02:17 mohawk currently TIMTOWTDI
02:18 mohawk i intend to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
02:18 * mohawk : the sauron of perl
02:24 sivoais hahah
02:24 sivoais that should totally be your next talk title
02:24 mohawk ha ha
02:25 mohawk well the feedback (singular) on my last one was "3/10 speaker needs to learn how to present" (that's literally what happened, no hyperbole)
02:25 mohawk naturally, since i'm a professional talking-dude, it was bullshit
02:26 sivoais so just one person who even bothered to send anything :-P
02:26 mohawk the other thing the feedback-hole said was "title needs to match the content of the talk"
02:26 mohawk you read my slides, what do you think?
02:26 * sivoais opens them again
02:29 mohawk i don't mind people not giving feedback
02:29 mohawk i just hope the induhvidual didn't give poisonous bullshit feedback to others who are more fragile than me
02:37 sivoais I'm gonna guess they either weren't interested in the talk... or it's an off-by-one error. :-P
02:41 mohawk ha ha!
02:41 mohawk well, who knows
02:41 mohawk sivoais, would you say the title matched the content?
02:45 sivoais yeah it does, but if someone is going to a technical talk, titles don't matter. You need to look at the descriptions. Those tell you more.
02:45 sivoais imo, titles bring you in by catching your eye
02:45 pdurbin mohawk: bummer to only get one piece of feedback but that may be more than I got for my talk
02:56 mohawk pdurbin, i feel your pain ;-)
02:56 mohawk luckily i've been getting lots of feedback recently in the real world and it's been 100% positive
02:56 mohawk sivoais, in my view my title was 100% accurate
