00:04 sivoais awesome!
00:04 mohawk inorite
00:06 mohawk i think i'll name my perl-only PDL according to the JSON convention
00:06 mohawk pure-perl = PP
00:06 mohawk so it'll be PDL::PP
00:07 mohawk ps, the above is a little joke, don't panic
00:08 sivoais hahaha
01:35 mohawk neilb reports there was a problem with PAUSE itself in updating the PDL perms, so ANDK will have to poke it
02:32 vicash sivoais: as far as plotting works with PDL, i think a D3-JS type plotting library support is better because it allows to show the plot in a browser or generate plots server side and send to a client side browser for viewing later etc.. there are many such advantages that Gnuplot doesn't provide that the JS plotting libraries do.
02:40 jberger but gnuplot can generate TikZ
02:42 vicash jberger: what is TikZ ?
02:47 jberger think of it as LaTeX vector graphics
02:47 sivoais TikZ is awesome
02:48 sivoais maybe D3 -> SVG -> EPS might be workable
02:49 sivoais though... umm... psfrag is super ugly
02:51 jberger https://github.com/jberger/Thesis/blob/master/inc/model_results/spacecharge/spacecharge.gp
02:51 mohawk man, Inline::Pdlpp needs a lot of code deleting
02:51 mohawk i am the man for that job
02:51 jberger https://github.com/jberger/Thesis/blob/master/inc/model_results/spacecharge/spacecharge_data_acc.tex
02:51 sivoais I remember using <http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/support/fragmaster> to work with circuit diagrams and put nice little Ohm symbols on the resistors
02:52 jberger mohawk: go go go!
02:52 sivoais :-D
02:52 mohawk grin
02:52 mohawk working on it
02:53 vicash hmm... but is it interactive ? sure many plots are just for viewing, but some have so much data that you want to zoom in/out etc.. and gnuplot itself does that in a very OK manner and Windows C# .NET plotting libraries are so much more fantastic in that regard. also Qt libraries but Qt is awful to integrate
02:53 sivoais Gnuplot is interactive
02:54 sivoais both modes need good support
02:55 sivoais I just played with PhantomJS this weekend. Didn't work for what I needed it for, but it was fast.
02:56 jberger sivoais: I'm building a test library based on phantom
02:56 mohawk so i just got PDL::Ops working as an Inline::Pdlpp file
02:56 jberger https://github.com/jberger/Test-Mojo-Phantom
02:56 mohawk still got to make it work with Inline::Module though
02:57 sivoais jberger: as long as you don't have to capture dialogs, it should work fine! :-P
02:58 sivoais I was trying to download Gmail's filters using their XML export button, but couldn't get at it. I ended up using MozRepl to control a Firefox instance <https://github.com/zmughal/gmail-porifera/tree/master/xt>
02:58 sivoais HtmlUnit didn't work either

20:26 mohawk i am officially, today, saying that PDL::PP is a bit buggy
20:26 mohawk i fixed the badly-wrong perl_require_pv("PDL::Core") "back in the day" in Basic/Core/Dev.pm
20:27 mohawk PDL::PP however does not call boring old-fashioned PDL::Core::Dev
20:27 mohawk instead it has its own hard-coded copy!
20:27 mohawk this is excellent software engineering
21:13 * jberger facepalm
21:14 jberger and since I almost typed it and it is probably appropriate
21:14 * jberger faceplam
21:15 mohawk almost typed what? :-)
21:15 mohawk oh, ha ha!
21:15 mohawk most apposite would have been: /me perl_require_pv("Face::Palm")
21:15 mohawk or even ::Plam
