17:52 sivoais would Travis-CI testing of PDL under other compilers like clang be useful?
17:52 sivoais because OSX uses clang, right?
18:03 vicash sivoais: yes OSX uses clang by default
18:04 vicash sivoais: it is also a good way to separate the gcc-specific code to allow code to build for any compiler in the future
18:05 vicash sivoais: i know most PDL users do not do this, but Intel's compilers generate much faster code than GCC which generates more portable code. so support for multiple compilers will be a good start...
18:05 sivoais hmm, yeah, I've heard many amazing things about icc
18:07 vicash i got paid to use icc in the past and it  generates a lot of SSE4 instructions based on what CPU target you have, so a lot of PDL code can be done in packed bytes if the data is using integers... thus making it much faster
18:07 vicash also each core has multiple floating point units. most compilers do not generate code to use the multiple floating point units but Intel's does
18:07 vicash at least that was the case 8 years ago and it may be moot now.
