07:50 opkick pdl/longlong-double-fix a441f34 kmx: LL fix for broken set_c (in fact broken typemap)
11:20 pdurbin jberger: Invitation to comment on a proposal for a cohesive research software citation-enabling platform http://astronomy-software-index.github.io/2015-workshop/

13:11 pdurbin interesting: Econometrics by Simulation: It is time for RData files to become the standard for Data Transfer - http://www.econometricsbysimulation.com/2014/03/it-is-time-for-rdata-files-to-become.html
14:06 jberger hmmmm, I don't see the difference that their proposal has vs Zenodo
14:45 sivoais that's a bit of an odd proposal when HDF is made to be read by everything. Not just R.

14:45 vicash every few years people reinvent the wheel
14:49 vicash there is also NetCDF
17:03 pdurbin which formats should we support in Dataverse? http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.1/user/tabulardataingest
17:05 pdurbin right now we support RData, Stata, SPSS, Excel, and CSV
17:09 sivoais is there a separate page for image formats?
17:11 vicash pdurbin: those are plenty. depends on your customer/user's requirements. until they ask for a format, i wouldn't suggest spending time supporting it. HDF5 for example is extremely flexible but each user can store data in their own sweet way. thus supporting it needs more effort
17:13 pdurbin vicash: yeah. we support what we do because customers have asked for it
17:13 pdurbin sivoais: we support FITS files, which have images
17:14 pdurbin and shapefiles: http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.1/user/dataset-management.html
17:16 pdurbin I mean, you can upload any file. I'm talking about doing extra processing on the file.

17:26 sivoais that's for handling data version control, right?
17:32 sivoais because c2wiki came about the same time as the GoF Design Patterns book. Slightly after, actually, from what I'm seeing

18:09 mad_hatter Hey folks, I've not heard much about PDL. But could someone point me in the right direction as to how to utilize it to do rather complex n-body simulation?
19:02 pdurbin sivoais: yes, Dataverse supports versioning of datasets
19:17 sivoais mad_hatter: I don't know much about the n-body problem, but perhaps implmenting <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_multipole_method> might be a step forwards
19:18 sivoais what PDL gives you is fast and convenient operations on n-dimensional arrays
