18:16 gtodd # R
18:16 gtodd x <- 1:400
18:16 gtodd y <- sin (x/10) * exp(x * -0.01)
18:16 gtodd plot (x,y)
18:16 gtodd argh
18:16 gtodd oops
18:16 sivoais :-)
18:17 sivoais gtodd: have you tried Statistics::NiceR? I wrote it and I'm planning on getting back to it soon. I need people to tell me what to focus on next.
18:21 gtodd nice will look at it !  :-D    I was only here to note perl/PDL is pretty nice for quick little plots ... but  PGPLOT is always to hard to use/build :-D   I practically use Prima exclusively now ...
18:23 gtodd I am assuming that if  use Prima I can fairly easily translate/swap in another plotting and display tool
18:23 sivoais 'tis a fair observation
18:24 sivoais with a small amount of fiddling, yes. There is a PDL::Graphics::Simple module that is meant to smooth over different plotting packages
18:24 sivoais for PDL, I prefer using PDL::Graphics::Gnuplot
18:25 gtodd not sure why ExtUtils::F77 has such a hard time putting PGPLOT together ... anyway I am prepared to simply never use it :)
18:25 gtodd hmm I guess there are PS backends that can covert to nice looking PDFs too
18:28 gtodd maybe even a round about way to do HTML5 Canvas or SVG  will magically drop from the sky !
18:28 gtodd Xmas is coming ...
18:28 jberger gtodd: what is you final target
18:29 jberger ?
18:29 jberger since I was making PDFs with LaTeX I exported my data from PDL and used GNUPLOT to output TikZ
18:29 jberger "native" plotting for LaTeX
18:30 gtodd perfect
18:30 gtodd errm well good enough :-D
18:34 gtodd except that I have an irrational fear of GNUPLOT  ... that comes from dealing with PGPLOT :-) I will overcome it.   Maybe one day using FFI to tie into some new cool plotting library will seem feasible to me ...
18:39 jberger https://archive.org/stream/ultrafast_electron_microscopes_berger_phd_thesis.pdf/thesis#page/n113/mode/2up
18:40 jberger this one was both GNUPLOT/TikZ and additional TikZ built around the plot: https://archive.org/stream/ultrafast_electron_microscopes_berger_phd_thesis.pdf/thesis#page/n77/mode/2up
18:44 gtodd :-O
18:44 gtodd nice
18:47 gtodd I mostly want descriptive charts and simle but good looking graphics from data ... and I'd like to figure out how I transformed a map projection back in the 1990's
18:47 gtodd anyway thanks for suggestions
18:47 gtodd cheers
23:21 vicash gtodd: look at my financeta project https://vikasnkumar.github.io/financeta/usage.html#selectingaplot . you see an image of a plot done using PDL::Graphics::GNUPlot
23:21 vicash gtodd: and the code repo link is also somewhere on that page to its github repo.. so you can see how to code it as an example..
