00:07 rurban can you ask FROGGS on #perl6?
00:08 Will_the_Chill I guess I will ask him later
00:08 Will_the_Chill I thought you might know, thanks anyway, no biggie
00:09 rurban I knew once but forgot
00:09 rurban haven't used it since YAPC Austin
00:13 Will_the_Chill gotcha
00:13 rurban forwarded the kickstarter pledge to our internal cPanel mailing-list
00:13 Will_the_Chill HEY THANKS!!!
00:14 rurban now you need to spam a few perl mailing-lists also
00:14 Will_the_Chill STD_P5.pm6 is still the most confusing thing to me.  So far I've document 36 different Perl projects
00:14 Will_the_Chill which mailing lists would be good to spam?
00:14 rurban i cannot really say
00:14 rurban p5p maybe
00:15 rurban and davem will say a few nasty things about it
00:16 Will_the_Chill yeah I'm not worried about davem and chromatic any more
00:16 Will_the_Chill they are just haters
00:17 Will_the_Chill haters gonna hate, POTATOES GONNA POTATE
00:17 rurban I'm not sure if marc lehmann ever announced his Faster to p5p
00:18 Will_the_Chill gotcha
00:18 Will_the_Chill I subscribed to p5p for a while but it was too much flames for me.  :)
00:19 Will_the_Chill also, I'm hoping you will make a pledge to RPerl as well!  :)
00:20 rurban have to go to the movies with mirjam, wsill do
00:21 Will_the_Chill okay have fun!

01:23 bulk88 Will_the_Chill, I'm not sure whether to approve (lock it into a category forever) your perlmonks post or not, for some reason I think News would also work inaddition to Meditations
01:24 Will_the_Chill I'd love to post it to News but I was originally chastised and told my stuff should go in Meditations
01:24 Will_the_Chill I forget who told me that, it was last year when I started the project
01:24 Will_the_Chill can I somehow switch it to the news section?
01:31 bulk88 I dont remember if the PM GUI allows the OP to switch categories or not
01:32 Will_the_Chill I am looking and not seeing an option to do so
01:33 Will_the_Chill okay I don't think it is possible
01:33 bulk88 you are not a Moderator(TM) on PM, I am, I checked one of my posts and I dont have the option, but it was approved by someone else already
01:33 Will_the_Chill I am not showing it as approved yet?
01:34 Will_the_Chill yeah, definitely not showing up as approved on my end
01:34 bulk88 some human has to approve it, I could do right now, but I'm debating Meditations Vs News in my head
01:35 Alpha64 hello
01:36 Will_the_Chill Alpha64: hello!
01:36 bulk88 http://i43.tinypic.com/2rggzk6.gif
01:37 Will_the_Chill bulk88: oh nice!  I don't have the approval nodelet yet
01:37 Will_the_Chill if news is better, then by all means switch it on over
01:37 Will_the_Chill Alpha64: how did you hear about Perl 11?
01:38 Alpha64 moarvm
01:38 Alpha64 but right now because i found a link in reddit to the kickstarter
01:38 Will_the_Chill sweet!  MoarVM is awesome.
01:39 Will_the_Chill Alpha64, can you send me the reddit link?
01:39 bulk88 WTC, you have 470 XP, 900 you get Moderator(TM) privilages, you get points by being logged in every day, (1 or 2 randomly), and about 1 point for every 4 votes you make (again randomly), you also get points when people vote +s on your posts
01:39 Alpha64 http://www.reddit.com/r/perl/comments/1rj9un/this_has_the_power_to_make_perl_extremely/
01:41 bulk88 I put (TM) next to Moderator, because it means you can put up posts for voting for editing or deletion, Moderators vote on editing or deletion, a number of votes a required to delete, its very communist, absolute control (what is called a forum moderator on every other website) is called a "Janitor(TM)" and those are self appointed
01:41 Will_the_Chill bulk88: gotcha
01:42 bulk88 there is also the term God(TM) which means SQL access/sys admins of the site
01:42 Will_the_Chill Alpha64: thanks for the link!  chromatic has been hating on RPerl since last year, haha!
01:43 Will_the_Chill Alpha64: can I answer any questions you may have about the RPerl.org project?
01:50 Alpha64 does it work?
01:50 Alpha64 and by work i mean how do you parse it
01:50 Alpha64 is it a subset of p5?
02:12 Will_the_Chill it is a subset of P5, yes
02:13 Will_the_Chill the data types work
02:13 Will_the_Chill the hand-compiled ops work
02:13 Will_the_Chill RPerl v1.0 will be released Christmas day
02:13 Will_the_Chill that will provide automated compiling abilities
02:13 Will_the_Chill in other words, it "will work"
02:13 Will_the_Chill :)
02:14 Alpha64 i don't understand the naysayers really
02:14 Will_the_Chill I am using the existing "Pumpkin" Perl 5 parser
02:14 Will_the_Chill people are afraid of change
02:14 Will_the_Chill especially AWESOME change!  :)
02:14 Will_the_Chill and by "people" I mostly mean Dave Mitchell and chromatic
02:14 Will_the_Chill GOOD FOR THEM they can be haters all day
02:14 Will_the_Chill haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate
02:15 Will_the_Chill my RPerl performance benchmarks are 100% authentic and show 200x speedup
02:15 Will_the_Chill not 200%, 200x, which is 20,000%
02:16 Alpha64 you gotta understand, it sounds like snake oil
02:16 Will_the_Chill look at the code
02:16 Alpha64 but there's no loss
02:16 Will_the_Chill it is on github
02:16 Will_the_Chill anybody who cries snakeoil has not looked at the code
02:17 Will_the_Chill it is still basic but it works!
02:17 Alpha64 it's really sad when people react like this
02:17 Will_the_Chill *shrug* oh well, no biggie
02:18 Will_the_Chill doesn't slow me down
02:18 Alpha64 also the christmas release is funny
02:19 Will_the_Chill hey thanks!  I'm glad somebody appreciates my Perl humor
02:44 Alpha64 looks like the reddit link helped you meet the goal
02:46 Will_the_Chill actually it was my posts on Facebook
02:46 Will_the_Chill but I'm hoping reddit will help
02:47 Will_the_Chill we hope to go well over the $100 minimum
02:47 Will_the_Chill a few thousand $ maybe
02:47 Will_the_Chill so don't hesitate to pitch in and make a pledge yourself!  :)
02:48 Alpha64 i would pledge but i can't
02:49 Alpha64 stupid laws from my country and other things
02:50 Will_the_Chill oh wow that is no fun
02:50 Will_the_Chill :(
02:52 Will_the_Chill maybe you have some Perl friends who do not suffer from the same restrictions?  :)
02:52 Alpha64 sadly no
02:53 Will_the_Chill aww dang
02:53 Will_the_Chill I wonder how else you could help, if not financially?
02:57 Alpha64 you've got my interest
02:58 Alpha64 that's really expensive
03:00 Will_the_Chill oh well can you program?
03:03 Alpha64 yes, i'd say so
03:04 Alpha64 i'm not a perl expert by any means
03:04 Alpha64 been using it for three years now
03:05 Will_the_Chill well you can start by getting RPerl installed for yourself...   http://rperl.org/use_rperl.html
03:06 Will_the_Chill read and understand the low-magic guidelines:   http://rperl.org/the_low_magic_perl_commandments.html
03:07 Will_the_Chill once you have RPerl installed, find the hand-compiled sorting algorithm and use it as a guideline to create more RPerl code that can be targeted by the compiler when I have it done next month
03:07 Will_the_Chill that would be the "RPerl app programmer" path
03:07 Will_the_Chill whereas the "RPerl system programmer" path requires serious Perl expertise
03:07 Will_the_Chill like the compiler and C and C++ and perlguts, etc.
03:21 Alpha64 is the sorting algorithms bundled with the install?
03:21 Alpha64 *algorithm
03:21 Will_the_Chill all the code is together
03:22 Will_the_Chill there is no installer program
03:22 Will_the_Chill the link I gave for use_rperl.html has the installation instructions
03:22 Will_the_Chill it is pre-alpha software right now
03:22 Alpha64 nvm i just thought about cpan
03:22 Will_the_Chill you have to follow the instructions or it won't work   http://rperl.org/use_rperl.html
03:25 Will_the_Chill bulk88: what did you decide about meditations vs news?
03:26 bulk88 "Considered: [boftx]: move to news?" hahahaha
03:27 Will_the_Chill yes I saw that which is why I asked, lol
03:27 bulk88 I'm not the only one that was thinking that
03:27 Will_the_Chill I'm IRL with boftx, he is in Austin.pm with me
03:27 Will_the_Chill *IRL friends with
03:27 bulk88 "approved by grandfather"
03:27 bulk88 ill frontpage iot
03:27 Will_the_Chill yay!
03:31 bulk88 I think I made a decision on the meditations vs news debate, stay in meditations, meditations has higher traffic on PM vs news category, by staying in meditations you are more likely to get replies (good/bad wise is irrelevent)
03:33 Alpha64 i pretty much see only negative feedback on any perl innovation project
03:33 Alpha64 for example the perl grant posts
03:33 Will_the_Chill bulk88: wise thoughts!
03:33 bulk88 people with positive feedback wont waste their time making positive posts, what i've learned in perl world is lack of comment is acceptance
03:34 Will_the_Chill well I'm being purposefully outspoken!  :)
03:35 bulk88 http://xkcd.com/386/
03:37 Will_the_Chill yes that is a classic XKCD!
03:40 Alpha64 you know what could be a nice demo for this other than boring sorting algorithms?
03:40 Alpha64 some sort of graphical demo
03:40 Alpha64 which tends to be the bane of this kind of language
03:44 Will_the_Chill yup, I've written a pure-Perl OO ray tracer in the past
03:44 Will_the_Chill will do the same for RPerl soon
03:45 Alpha64 would something like mojolicious compile with this?
03:46 Will_the_Chill I haven't looked at mojolicious' source code
03:46 Will_the_Chill I'm assuming any major Perl project is going to have some high-magic parts
03:46 Alpha64 yeah i suppose
03:46 Will_the_Chill that would need to be augmented or isolated
03:47 Alpha64 well, if the results are on the table i guess that somebody will try to "port" it
03:47 Will_the_Chill so any Perl project can be upgraded to compile with RPerl
03:47 Will_the_Chill yes
03:47 Will_the_Chill "upgrade"
03:47 Will_the_Chill since it is all still just Perl 5 code
03:47 Will_the_Chill :)
03:51 Will_the_Chill any luck getting RPerl installed?
04:21 Will_the_Chill Alpha64: howdy

08:44 Will_the_Chill how did you hear about Perl 11?
08:44 basiliscos Will_the_Chill: hello :)
08:45 basiliscos Will_the_Chill: Yes, I did.
08:45 Will_the_Chill how did you learn about Perl 11?
08:45 Will_the_Chill from a website?
08:46 basiliscos I plan to study lua, and may be compile potion or p2 just to try it's speed :)
08:46 Will_the_Chill oh nice!
08:46 Will_the_Chill Reini (rurban) is asleep right now I think, he is the the creator of P2
08:47 basiliscos Originally, I was in YAPC::EU, and heard rurban's speaches :)
08:47 Will_the_Chill I'm the creator of RPerl   http://rperl.org/
08:48 Will_the_Chill I'm friends with Reini, he lives in Houston not far from my home in Austin, Texas
08:50 basiliscos Will_the_Chill: cool! I have read yesterday about RPer (may be from p11.org?). Very good idea! Good luck to you!
08:50 Will_the_Chill thank you my friend!  :)
08:51 Will_the_Chill we also have a Kickstarter campaign now...   http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wbraswell/perl-5-optimizing-compiler-rperl-v10
