00:01 [Coke] moritz: back home; testing now.
00:11 [Coke] "make test" gives a super verbose path to make on the error; there's no make rakudo-strestest?
00:11 [Coke] *ss
00:23 [Coke] moritz: looks good here on OSX.

08:30 nine lizmat: I think the idea was to be able to throw some switch and have rakudo complain at runtime about methods that are not available in the requested version. So you'd just have to run your test suite to find out if you did accidentally use a method that's not yet available in your target Perl 6 version.

17:07 [Coke] have to add "update perl6/docker" to the list of post R* release tasks.
17:08 [Coke] (even if it's just to add a ticket.)
17:09 [Coke] (I'm sitting in a $dayjob docker meeting.)
17:27 jnthn Heh, also had Docker come up at $dayjob recently and was pondering how up to date the Perl 6 container is :)
17:42 hoelzro it's as up-to-date as the latest star release ;)
18:11 japhb hoelzro: Is that 2016.01 now, or are we still in -RC territory with R*?
18:13 hoelzro I thought the 2016.01 was just the compiler
18:14 japhb 13:02 < moritz> http://hack.p6c.org/~moritz/rakudo-star-2016.01-RC0.tar.gz # please test
18:14 japhb (From yesterday)
18:15 japhb I didn't see anything since from moritz, but I haven't been backlogging #perl6, just the side channels.
18:16 hoelzro eesh, I need to get with the times
18:16 hoelzro I usually just wait for the R* e-mail to go out
18:34 FROGGS joined #perl6-release
18:36 FROGGS o/
18:42 hoelzro o/ FROGGS
19:34 [Coke] hoelzro: we're close to a non RC; if you can update docker, that'd be awesome.
19:57 [Coke] (er, when that hits.)
19:58 timotimo i already poked him about it and he said yes :D
20:01 hoelzro [Coke]: will do!
20:03 [Coke] hoelzro++
20:04 [Coke] we are just getting to the point where we can use docker internally to deploy apps. I'm excited about the possibility of writing a perl6 web API running in a container.
20:05 hoelzro I should probably implement the ONBUILD stuff if people are going to use it for app deployment
20:05 hoelzro I'll do that after the star release =)
20:37 FROGGS is that proper wording? "A useful and usable production distribution of Perl 6"
20:37 FROGGS I'd think it might be better "production ready distribution", but my English sucks so I'm not sure
20:38 FROGGS in fact, would be nice if one could proofread: https://github.com/rakudo/star/blob/master/docs/announce/2016.01.md
20:42 [Coke] "production ready" is fraught with meaning we may not mean.
20:42 FROGGS ahh, so the sentence is okay as it is?
20:43 [Coke] FROGGS: seems fine to me.
20:43 [Coke] FROGGS: it's fine but maybe not perfect.
20:43 FROGGS k
20:45 FROGGS k, I'm going to tag the release now and upload the tarball...
20:45 perlpilot that sentence works for me too.
20:46 FROGGS thank you
20:47 perlpilot Is the feature matrix kept up to date?
20:50 FROGGS perlpilot: no, does not seem like
21:14 moritz \o
21:15 moritz fwiw I'm fine with somebody else finishing the release
21:15 moritz if nobody does, I'll likely review the announcemnt, and then release. Likely tomorrow.
21:16 moritz ... and I'm confused; which branch do we release from?
21:17 moritz I've done the RC0 based on the "release" branch, but it seems most recent commits have happened on master
21:20 stmuk_ oh that was probably my fault
21:22 stmuk_ that explains why perl6intro.pdf was older in the RC0 since it was updated on master not release
21:23 stmuk_ I did diff -r and could see no code changes
21:24 stmuk_ the README did already say "production" in at least one place
21:25 stmuk_ I wasn't too happy with using the word but "stable" seemed even worse and I couldn't think of anymore words
21:36 FROGGS moritz: the release has happened already
21:38 FROGGS I need to update rakudo.org and wikipedia
21:38 stmuk_ it should appear on the home page via RSS feed in the left hand box based on the rakudo.org update
21:38 stmuk_ ^ right hand box
21:39 moritz oh
21:39 moritz \o/
22:01 moritz (group effort)++
22:50 [Coke] so did the release happen from master or the branch? Are we ok?
22:50 [Coke] my concern: I tested whateve moritz posted earlier.
22:53 FROGGS the release happened from master
22:53 FROGGS and I merged the release into master a few days ago
22:53 FROGGS release branch*
22:55 FROGGS I just prepared the msi for windows, but mine and my laptops battery is quite empty right now
22:56 FROGGS I announced the release on rakudo.org a few minutes ago, and will push the msi tomorrow, and will edit the wiki pages and the release doc
23:16 hoelzro grr...just tried to build a new docker image
23:16 hoelzro configure && make fails with exit code 2; when I do it by hand, exit 0
