19:02 masak oh hai
19:02 zarah privet masak
19:02 moritz_ moin
19:02 zarah privet moritz_
19:02 masak let's get started.
19:02 literal alrighty
19:03 * PerlJam lurks
19:04 masak literal: (1) done since last time (two weeks ago), (2) plans, (3) blockers
19:04 moritz_ (4) explanations for missing blog posts (or did I miss those?)
19:04 literal moritz_: you might have missed the last one because I forgot to tag it
19:04 moritz_ literal: URL?
19:05 literal http://blog.nix.is/lucky-013 and http://blog.nix.is/on-to-the-man-pages
19:05 masak literal++
19:05 jnthn joined #perl6-soc
19:06 * masak reads the blog posts
19:06 japhb joined #perl6-soc
19:06 literal well, since last time, I've taken over Perl6::Doc from Herbert Breunung (lichtkind)
19:06 literal will be keeping all the docs in there
19:07 pmurias joined #perl6-soc
19:07 masak literal: your posts cover (1) pretty well, I think. (and (4))
19:07 masak literal: what about (2) plans and (3) blockages?
19:08 pmurias joined #perl6-soc
19:11 PerlJam literal: I don't know if I mentioned this to you before, but WRT Perl's regex, I have an unpublished introduction to them that I wrote a while back.  It probably needs some updates, but you can use it as a starting point if you like.
19:11 literal cool, I might turn that into a perlretut or something
19:12 PerlJam It's at http://feather.perl6.nl/~duff/articles/perl6/p6-regex.pod
19:12 zarah PerlJam's link is also http://tinyurl.com/n2p4bo
19:12 mikehh joined #perl6-soc
19:13 PerlJam TimToady and pmichaud looked over it back when I wrote it, so it's reasonably accurate  :)
19:13 literal masak: finish perlintro and perlsyn, and then I think I should try to make something practical out of the keyword/syntax lookups, as it is now it searches the table index from the perlfoundation wiki as well as S29. I think it would be good to create something that would make it easy to contribute index entries/definitions
19:14 literal I'm just not sure what it is, yes
19:14 literal yet*
19:14 literal PerlJam: sounds good
19:14 masak literal: I have an idea for keyword/syntax lookup that I'm going to unveil in a few minutes.
19:15 literal ok
19:15 masak literal: seems you have a pretty straightforward plan for the coming weeks. any blockers you're aware of?
19:15 literal not for now
19:15 masak goodie.
19:15 masak pmurias: feel like reporting something?
19:17 pmurias managed to improve the speed of smop significantly by rewriting the lexical scope and friends
19:17 pmurias not sure what to aim at now, maybe running Test.pm?
19:18 pmurias that is running t/02-test-pm/1-basic.t
19:18 pmurias as most of the current Test.pm's use evil features (like our)
19:19 masak why's that an evil feature? :)
19:21 moritz_ pmurias: you can also use a simplified Test.pm
19:21 pmurias moritz_: i'm writing my own simplified Test.pm
19:21 moritz_ ok
19:21 pmurias masak: i don't like global state
19:21 moritz_ having one soon seems like a good idea
19:22 moritz_ pmurias: how's your progress compared to your original time line?
19:22 masak pmurias: ah. I see what you mean.
19:22 pmurias moritz_: somewhere on the right side
19:23 moritz_ ahead, behind, on spot?
19:23 pmurias moritz_: ahead
19:23 moritz_ great.
19:23 masak indeed.
19:23 pmurias i think only is rw/is copy is left
19:24 pmurias but it's not really clear how to implement those
19:24 pmurias so ruoso thinks it's better to do stuff that's needed for mildew/smop
19:28 pmurias moritz_: mildew's Test.pm lives in v6/re-mildew/lib/Test.pm
19:30 PerlJam pmurias: as someone who only knows smop by name and reputation, how do I get it to *do something*?  How do I use it?
19:30 moritz_ I think that's a good question for #perl6
19:31 moritz_ let's try to keep this meeting as short as possible, with general discussions in other places
19:31 moritz_ anything else we want/need to discuss now?
19:33 masak yes.
19:33 masak http://github.com/masak/grok-dispatcher/
19:33 masak it's very release-early, but it conveys what I'd like us to focus a bit on.
19:33 zarah masak's link is also http://tinyurl.com/l4f3pl
19:33 masak literal: I've written one test so far, which captures what we were discussing about the '+' symbol two weeks ago.
19:34 masak the current implementation has a hash table of symbols in the source code itself. a reasonable improvement would probably be to generate such a table from Pod instead.
19:34 masak zarah: my, you're the slow one. :)
19:34 zarah masak: no, YOU are the slow one! :)
19:34 literal hm
19:35 masak (or it might be me having a slow neighbournet conncetion)
19:35 masak literal: I'm not sure how much the tests should cover, but there are at least a number of typical cases of dispatch that should have tests.
19:36 masak literal: I'm willing to write such a test suite in the coming weeks, if you help me write the dispatcher.
19:36 masak the reason I'm pressing forward on this is that I consider this to be the heart of the grok application.
19:36 literal looks like a good first approximation
19:36 PerlJam masak++
19:37 masak \o/
19:37 masak ok, I'm done.
19:37 masak any further topics for today?
19:37 * moritz_ is also done
19:39 masak very well. let's call it a week.
