03:18 * PerlJam finding it really hard to write a few paragraphs for the book on the relationship between Perl 5 and Perl 6
03:19 PerlJam Here are all of my false starts (each paragraph can be viewed separately). https://gist.github.com/b9def098efdd3e5d09c9
03:20 PerlJam Each contains the kernel of an idea that I was thinking of exploring
04:03 chromatic They all feel rubbery because the whole idea of selling Perl 6 as "not the obvious successor to Perl 5" is a rubbery idea.

10:58 jnthn oh hai
10:58 jnthn I just reviewed hangman.p6
10:58 jnthn We do
10:58 jnthn my $alphabet = join '', 'a'..'z';
10:58 jnthn And only use it in
10:58 jnthn if not defined(index($alphabet,$guess)) {
10:58 jnthn Could we not somehow have used smart-matching against the range (maybe too liberal) or just
10:59 jnthn if $guess eq any('a'..'z') { ... }
11:02 jnthn Also
11:02 jnthn if join('',@blanks) eq $word { say "\t\tYou Win!"; last; }
11:02 jnthn Maybe we can name @blanks something a little better?
11:29 moritz_ jnthn: if $guess eq any('a'..'z') { ... }

14:33 PerlJam jnthn: sure, tmtowtdi after all.  The original was an exercise in conceptual minimality though.  Introduce just enough stuff to get through what scalars, arrays, hashesh, subroutines, etc. are, but not go into what objects are or what smart matching is, or hyper/meta ops, or junctions, or other "more advanced" things
14:33 PerlJam s/hashesh/hashes/
14:35 jnthn True...it just looked really odd to write it using index.
15:38 PerlJam Everybody look at http://github.com/perl6/book/blob/master/src/preface.pod and fix what I wrote about the relationship between Perl 6 and Perl 5     :)

18:55 moritz_ chromatic: the things in =begin notetip ... =end notetip isn't rendered, it doesn't even appear in the .tex file
18:56 moritz_ chromatic: is there any hook to enable that?
18:56 chromatic I thought Pod::PseudoPod handled that.  allison will know better.
