15:04 lucs Goood morning.
15:06 moritz_ good localtime()
15:07 lucs :)
15:08 lucs Darn. My LaTeX setup is crufty.
15:08 moritz_ ie normal.
15:09 lucs pronik is using features that are found in more recent distros only.
15:09 lucs I'll get it working, eventually :)
15:09 moritz_ I'm of two minds about it
15:09 moritz_ one is that it would be great of most people could build the book easily
15:10 moritz_ the other is that we're writing a freakin' book, and it needs proper typesetting
15:10 lucs Yeah. I tend to go for the latter.
15:10 moritz_ and that not using the best tools available for the task would be waste of volunteer's effort
15:11 lucs Since frequent releases are planned, a user could always download a recent version (if we make them available somewhere).
15:12 lucs It could be troublesome for the authors who want to see what their recent writings look like though, if they're not set up to build it correctly.

20:04 pronik it seems the minted package will solve all our formatting problems in the end
20:04 moritz_ what is "minted"?
20:04 pronik I'll commit something today to the branch
20:04 pronik http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/minted/
20:04 pronik it takes pygments to format the code
20:04 pronik http://pygments.org/
20:05 pronik I assume pygments will have perl6 highlighting some day
20:05 pronik which I cannot be sure of with any latex package
20:05 lucs pronik: I just committed a 'fixquotes' branch, for what it's worth.
20:06 lucs By the way, I needed to install KOMA-script (for 'tocstyle') and version 1.4 of 'listings', and now the book builds fine.
20:06 pronik lucs: I'll take a look
20:06 lucs It looks pretty good :)
20:07 lucs I mean your version.
20:07 pronik lucs: wait till I'm done with minted ;)
20:07 lucs :-)
20:09 lucs PerlJam++ Thanks for the git help!
20:09 moritz_ if you can find a way to bundle non-standard (or very new) latex packages in the book, that would make the lives of many authors easier
20:09 moritz_ but it might be too much effort, no idea how picky latex is in that respect
20:10 moritz_ anyway, you two rock :-)
20:10 pronik moritz_: I already do, minted is not available in packaged form yet
20:11 moritz_ oh. /me impressed
20:11 pronik it's just not committed yet

22:50 lucs pronik: Yep. I'm in EDT, it's 18:50.
22:50 lucs But, I will get back to my dinner just about now.
22:50 lucs Catch youi later :)

23:27 lucs Wow. Spiffy!
23:34 lucs pronik++ Looks great!
23:37 pronik gonna commit in the next couple of minutes
23:38 lucs I just posted the URL to #perl6, it's just so good :)
23:38 lucs Is it based on minted?
23:39 pronik yes
23:39 lucs Did you need to muck with the quotes, or are they okay by default with minted?
23:44 pronik yes and no -- I'm using xelatex now, which makes it rather easy. Seems to work even without your patch :)
23:45 lucs Simpler, better :)
23:47 pronik people in
23:47 pronik #perl6 don't seem to care much about the book :)
23:47 pronik changes up, another challenge for you to compile ;)
23:47 lucs Okay :)
23:48 pronik and I notice I failed at submitting correct code ;)
23:49 lucs Oopsie :)
23:49 pronik correct stuff up shortly
23:49 lucs No problem.
23:52 pronik oh, one more thing -- I've deactivated your margins for now because it didn't work for me properly. Could you please look into it and correct them?
23:53 pronik ok, code's up
23:53 pronik still, a lot of tweaking to do left
23:54 pronik but it looks much better now :)
23:54 lucs Ok. The margin values probably needed correction anyway.
23:54 lucs It does!
23:54 pronik (than the 2010-06)
23:54 pronik and now I'm going to bed -- it's 2 am again, for the third day in a row
23:54 lucs The first 90% is done, now, to the other 90% :)
23:54 pronik correct :)
23:54 lucs Great work sir!
23:55 pronik if you see moritz_ later, show him the stuff ;)
23:55 lucs Sleep well, and talk to you soon.
23:55 lucs You bet!
