12:16 neilb I’m so impressed by crew members who got an XS module, and are now working through XS tutorials, perlguts and other things, just so they can contribute something useful to their dist!
12:16 athos joined #pr-challenge
12:17 Peter :) I kind of hope I get one, I kind of want to understand XS but have no reason
12:17 Peter And I think nowadays there are better alternatives?
12:17 Peter disclaimer: my current module may use XS, I haven't looked at it in much detail ;)
12:25 * neilb makes a note: “look for evil XS module to assign to Peter in March”
12:26 Peter Thanks
12:30 reneeb Peter: There were some blogposts about FFI as an alternative to XS
12:31 Peter I was reading about Platypus the otherday

16:02 lagrasta Well, February is already going better. Already submitted a pull request on my module (Encode).
16:03 neilb lagrasta: \o/
16:03 lagrasta Not only that, it’s “real” code. Not just a kwalitee fix. :)
16:04 lagrasta Of course, I’ll still do some more work on it. But it’s feeling way better than last month.
16:06 lagrasta It’s interesting how being assigned a module can make you stretch yourself. The exposure to different build and packaging methods alone is interesting, not to mention author styles.
16:06 lagrasta And now I am seriously looking at plenv or PerlBrew or local::lib to do some more isolated dev and testing.
16:07 lagrasta Thanks again for running this thing neilb
16:08 neilb lagrasta: np. I’ve having a lot of fun with it. It’s like flashmob yak shaving. And that’s a Good Thing™

16:10 frederico thanks to pr I can`t live anymore without Travis CI :P
16:13 haarg i'm often dealing with weird edge cases and lots of back-compat, so travis is a life saver
16:14 haarg manually testing across everything back to 5.8.1 (or even 5.6.x), with and without threads, would be pretty painful
16:19 lagrasta Yeah, this is all great experience to be getting. I’m lucky enough to be in a position now at work where I can make some real improvements to the whole process. I’m doing a lot of reading lately, but it’s a bit fragmented.
16:19 thrig fsck -y /reading
16:20 lagrasta I wish!
16:22 * thrig ponders how the filesystem of Doom is doing

19:04 BooK thinking about Git::CPAN::Hook, I realize I could store my 421 versions of git in a git repository
19:05 thrig git klaatu --barada ^Nikto Paamayim Nekudotayim
19:05 BooK if only to bisect the Git::Repository test suite
19:05 BooK and maybe save some space
19:06 BooK the really cool thing to do would be to respect the dag of git versions parentage

20:02 ether neilb: re the Dist::Zilla::MintingProfile::SYP assignment - the PR I'd do for that is to rename the dist to ::Author::SYP - so you can then skip the ::Author namespaces.
20:09 BooK ether: sounds like a job for the cpan police! ;-)
20:09 neilb I guess there’s only a few such modules, but I think people might rightly think they’d got a duff assignment if that’s all they can do
20:10 neilb Is that a newer convention, to add the ::Author::?
20:10 BooK neilb: they can ask for more, then
20:10 * BooK imagines a "CPAN signal"
20:11 thrig well, if you need to got ham things up
20:11 neilb ok, time to stop drinking thrig
20:13 BooK I guess a bright © in the skies would look weird to this open source crowd
