Time Nick Message
00:00 kid51 I said:
00:00 kid51 GIT_COMMITTER_DATE="2008-06-07 19:53" git tag --sign v0.37 93b86953b2b97b435b37cf64e6e73faad767edbf
00:00 kid51 And the message I got back was this:
00:01 kid51 gpg: keyring `/home/jkeenan/.gnupg/secring.gpg' created
00:01 kid51 gpg: skipped "James E Keenan <jkeenan@cpan.org>": secret key not available
00:01 kid51 gpg: signing failed: secret key not available
00:01 kid51 error: gpg failed to sign the data
00:01 kid51 error: unable to sign the tag
00:01 kid51 Now, I know I have whatever keys I need, say, to push my stuff to github.com or to commit to perl5 git.
00:02 kid51 So what do I have to do here to make the '--sign' option work?
00:13 ether I never use --sign
00:13 pink_mist why do you need --sign? if you don't have a gpg signature handy it's pretty silly to add it for this
00:13 ether git tag -a 'v1.23' -m'version 1.23' <sha>
00:17 * pink_mist usually just creates lightweight tags
00:19 cakirke joined #pr-challenge
00:20 kid51 I apparently *don't* have a gpg signature handy, so I'll try ether's suggestion.
00:20 kid51 But my motivation was this passage from 'man git-tag':
00:20 kid51 Annotated tags are meant for release while lightweight tags are meant
00:20 kid51 for private or temporary object labels.
00:20 pink_mist well alright, by all means use -a
00:20 kid51 Since what I wanted to do was to retrospectively tag my releases.
00:24 ether right, -a is the annotation bit
00:29 n2plato ether: You around?
00:38 ether more square today but yeah
00:39 n2plato ether: Aren't we all
00:39 n2plato ether: So I've been looking at the Slaven's Parse-CPAN-Packages-Fast distribution and your notes in RT.
00:40 ether ah ye
00:40 ether s
00:41 n2plato ether: Just to make sure I'm on the same page with you, you're suggesting that a test file be added to use for the testing the indexing business correct?
00:44 n2plato ether: From the notes Slaven just needs the file to be sorted correctly and your point was that the [test] file can be out of date and in the appropriate order so that the testing business doesn't depend on the .cpan/sources/.... file
00:47 ether the problem I was having at the time was that I was getting a file from a different app that was leaving the file in a weird sort state
00:47 ether *but*
00:48 ether I still have test failures whenever I install a new perl (which is when I install PCPF again), because the .cpan file doesn't always contain the entries that PCPF is expecting it to
00:48 ether because I use my 'cpan' install with weird indexes, like backpan or old cpXXXans
00:49 ether PCPF is assuming (and relying upon) that file reflecting the real PAUSE index
00:49 ether that's not always a valid assumption
00:49 ether so for the purposes of its own tests, it should fake up a file that contains the expected entries, so PCPF can test its ability to parse that file
00:49 n2plato ether: Right.  I saw your note in RT about that.
00:49 ether rather than failing because of external factors
00:49 n2plato certainly
00:50 ether now, I haven't looked at PCPF's internals to see how difficult it is to swap out that filename...
00:50 n2plato So merely any old copy of the file I have laying around is sufficient to drop in t/ and work with that?
00:50 ether if it's hardcoded, perhaps that should be changed to using a parameter, or an environment variable that configures where to look for the .cpan dir
00:50 n2plato Yah I'm just getting acquainted with it.
00:51 ether it should be. for the purposes of the test I'd make it really short, like a few dozen entries (including the one it is looking for, of course) :)
00:51 ether isn't it fun reading someone else's code :D
00:51 n2plato I'm just glad it isn't mine.
00:52 n2plato meaning...You should try reading mine. :)
00:53 ether heh!
00:53 ether that's the cool thing about hacking like this... the more you do it, the more awesome you get
00:53 n2plato Anyway...I'll spend some time with it get acquainted.  I think I noticed checks for > 10,000 lines, so that would mean having to alter the test if the file is short.
00:53 ether so the PR challenge is just a grand conspiracy to make us all awesomer
00:54 ether dammit neilb :D
00:55 n2plato Just today I watched genehack's YAPC::NA keynote and noticed slides with #damnitstevan sprinkled throughout.  Perhaps the next one will have #damitneilb.
00:55 n2plato or rather #damnitneilb

17:02 Su-Shee sawyer: a day of european cpanpr hacking in eg amsterdam? what do you think?
17:51 punter joined #pr-challenge
17:56 sawyer Su-Shee: are you coming?
17:58 Su-Shee if there already is one?! when?
17:58 sawyer no, i mean, if there will be one - will you come?
17:59 Su-Shee sawyer: yes, that's why I'm asking. saw the tweet by the american today
18:00 sawyer so there will be one!
18:00 thrig there can only be one!
18:00 sawyer actually, i also thought about doing one
18:00 Su-Shee sawyer: I got tgat vibe :)
18:01 Su-Shee sorry on a train home, my typing will suck
18:02 Su-Shee sawyer: also swaeting over it in company is easier :)
18:02 thrig ... so, duplicate strftimes due to something added but then removed in said module, DateTime killed. (though I still do get the same headache for date-time related code)
18:04 sawyer Su-Shee: no worries
18:04 sawyer i was already trying to figure out how to do it
18:04 sawyer we have some free hackspaces (like where we did the AmsterdamX hackathon)
18:08 Su-Shee sawyer: and I'm in the netherlands every 4 weeks anyways
18:09 Su-Shee neilb: is there a list by country to see if amsterdam for a cpanor hackathon would be a good location?
18:12 sawyer ONE COORDINATED HACKATHON ACCROSS COUNTRIES
18:12 neilb Su-Shee: no, i don’t have such a list. In the early days of PRC someone was having a go at compiling a map, based on location info from github
18:13 neilb I might see how easy it is to grab this from github later tonight

18:47 Su-Shee sawyer: well on the other hand: whoever does it, chooses tge location and period. :)
18:47 Su-Shee sawyer: but I'm in unless boyfriend weekend ;)
19:03 sawyer <3 :)
19:09 punter joined #pr-challenge
19:10 Su-Shee sawyer: if it fits I can come half a day earlier or something and help with prep. I'm only 5 hours away
19:10 neilb Obviously very dependent on what people put in the location field of their profile on github, but here’s user count by country: http://i.imgur.com/o1q6lcz.png
19:11 sawyer Su-Shee: that would be great
19:11 sawyer last time we just arrived
19:16 Su-Shee sawyer: did you have a weekend in mind ir a weekday?
19:17 sawyer Su-Shee: weekends would probably be best
19:29 vti neilb: yep, i am from mars
19:30 neilb ah, so that was you!
19:30 vti neilb: 162! i am not alone
19:30 neilb I should have created a category “Extraterrestrials”
19:51 Su-Shee sawyer: then I can defininetely help and fuckbthis mobile netwirk
19:51 sawyer Su-Shee++
19:54 Su-Shee need to evaluate amsterdam anyways ;)
19:55 Su-Shee
19:58 sawyer woohoo :)
20:09 Su-Shee well moving is nice and my job is remote so I can go whereever I want to :)
20:34 sawyer i'm not sure netherlands beats germany though
20:34 sawyer *especially* in food
20:42 rvandam joined #pr-challenge
20:52 Mike__B sawyer: yeah I think German cities can have nice atmospheres and be cheaper than Amsterdam. on the other hand it could well be, if you'd choose Berlin or Munich,
20:52 Mike__B that some of the German contestants actually are closer to Amsterdam than to $location.
20:53 Su-Shee yeah.. it's pretty bad. but I actually have more friends in amsterdam than in berlin for weird reasons :)
20:53 Mike__B But what Su-Shee said: whoever organizes this, gets to choose the location.
20:53 Mike__B Well because Amsterdam people are fun of course :D
20:53 sawyer Su-Shee: we consider ourselves lucky :)
20:53 sawyer Mike__B: we give it a shot :)
20:54 Su-Shee sawyer: yes on top of friends there a bunch of perl people too indeed.
20:54 Mike__B and Berlin has the QA hackathon pretty soon anyways
20:54 Su-Shee true.
20:55 Su-Shee sorry verb got lost in the train ;)
20:55 Su-Shee sawyer: boyfriend's tiwn has really good vegan food ;)
20:56 Mike__B 5 Amsterdam.PM people will be in Berlin then: http://act.qa-hackathon.org/qa2015/stats
20:58 sawyer Su-Shee: i has the jealous
21:01 ether next year's should be in Amsterdam!
