00:13 haarg i may request a new dist for march.  the one i got has no open issues, one test failure that isn't the module's fault, and one cpants failure that is invalid.
00:18 jamessan joined #pr-challenge
00:22 devans i reproduced an error from cpantesters for Devel::CheckOS and found that one of the test scripts isn't compatible with perl 5.6.2
00:22 devans i think the underlying code actually works though
00:23 devans altho it might behave unexpectedly if someone were to use it in the same way the test script works, which actually looks like a reasonable usage
00:23 devans not sure what to do
00:24 kid51 skip_all if perl version <= 5.62 (pseudo-code) -- perhaps?
00:25 kid51 post a gist / paste ?
00:25 ether haarg: what was your assignment?
00:25 * ether is really hoping to help refine the scoring heuristics soon.. if neilb would post his latest version :)
00:26 haarg Plack::Test::Agent
00:26 devans Devel::CheckOS
00:29 haarg devans: adjust the test to avoid the issue
00:29 haarg you can't do anything about other people using the module badly

00:50 devans i'm pretty certain that this test failure is just a broken testing platform http://www.cpantesters.org/cpan/report/7b8ddb64-410d-11e4-a950-b7d06f114c4e is there anything that i as a non-maintainer ought to do about that?

11:36 hatorikibble Hi! I'm just trying out Test::Kwalitee with my assigned package Image::Info. This module has several Bundle:: packages (without any perl code apart from the version) and the tests complain about missing "use strict" with these. Whats the consensus about bundle packages and "use strict"? just put it in to disable warnings? on cpan I find both versions

22:08 devans re
22:09 devans oops
22:11 harvested hello, I have a git question, after I commited my changes in the branch I worked on, how do I commit to 'master' branch?
22:11 thrig merge?
22:12 harvested hmm 'fatal: No commit specified and merge.defaultToUpstream not set.' :/
22:13 haarg to bring your changes into master, you would merge.  git checkout master; git merge some-branch;
22:13 devans first, get checkout master
22:13 harvested aha
22:13 devans then git merge (yourbranch)
22:13 haarg but if you are submitting a PR, that isn't really what you would want to do
22:14 harvested well it worked, when swiching to master and merge the branch
22:14 harvested yes, I want to submit a PR, what should I do then?
22:15 haarg did you fork the repo yet?
22:15 haarg and add it as a remote?
22:15 harvested nope, I've only cloned it
22:15 harvested should I first forked it on github?
22:16 haarg go to the repo on github and click fork in the upper right
22:16 harvested ok, done
22:17 harvested the cloning part should have been done after forking?
22:17 haarg it doesn't have to be
22:17 haarg next you'd want to add your fork as a remote
22:18 ether https://help.github.com/articles/creating-a-pull-request
22:18 haarg git remote add remote_name https://github.com/your_user/repo.git
22:19 haarg the remote name can be anything, but i'd recommend using your github username
22:20 haarg then you can git push remote_name branch_name
22:20 neilb January now at 61% complete: https://rawgit.com/CPAN-PRC/resources/master/january.html
22:20 neilb February at 51%: https://rawgit.com/CPAN-PRC/resources/master/february.html
22:21 sue_ joined #pr-challenge
22:23 harvested @haarg, thank you, it worked
22:24 harvested but I've pushed into master
22:24 haarg you probably don't want to do that
22:25 harvested yup
22:33 harvested haarg: thanks, it works
22:43 ether neilb: is march.html up?
22:43 neilb 5 days, remember
22:43 ether sorry, remember what?
22:43 neilb time for people to ask for new dists etc
22:43 neilb I’ll first publish march’s list on 5th March
22:43 ether ah
22:44 ether I'm not on the mailing list.
22:44 ether is this so you don't have to make updates twice, or are you really wanting to keep the information secret?
22:44 neilb people get reminded of the 5 day rule when they get their assignments by email
22:45 neilb a number of people commented that they didn’t want the list published right away. They might get a dist and think “oh shit, not Foo::Bar”, or “Oh god, not an ETHER dist, gimme another one please!” :-)
22:45 ether neilb: oh yes, please take Module-Metadata out of the list of candidates
22:45 neilb ok, I’ll black list it
22:46 ether it's dual-life and has a number of challenges ahead of it, but more bodies will not help
22:46 ether danke!
22:46 ether are you down into the scoring-3 dists yet, or are all the assignments still scoring 4+?
22:51 neilb 1 dist was assigned with a score of 6, 12 with a score of 5, 113 with a score of 4, and 48 with a score of 3
22:53 harvested joined #pr-challenge
22:54 neilb ether: Module-Metadata now black-listed
22:56 ether are you doing them pseudorandomly from the list? I was surprised to see something else get assigned from my maint list other than Moose (the dist with the most reverse deps with a score of 4)
23:00 veryrusty joined #pr-challenge
23:01 neilb ether: randomly within the band, but I’ve just changed that to go for the highest number of bugs
23:02 ether sweet!
23:05 neilb there are a number of authors who have dists on the same upper band. But most of those will get assigned over the following 9 months.
23:06 neilb I had thought that Moose might have a “drop score”, but it doesn’t, surprisingly. If someone drops a dist and wants something else, it’s drop score gets a +1. Non-zero drop scores make me much less likely to give it out.
23:07 ether I'd +1 Moose and WWW-Mechanize (that is, make them *more* likely to give out)
23:07 ether I'd do libwww-perl and URI too, but they've both been assigned already
23:07 ether Moose hasn't been assigned yet, so there wouldn't be a drop score yet.
23:08 ether I created a PRC-appropriate ticket for Moose that is waiting for the lucky recipient :)
23:08 neilb ether: I’ve just given Moose and WWW-Mechanize the “author open to PRC work” +1 flag
23:08 ether w00t
23:11 neilb Just updated file:///Users/neilb/perl/pr-challenge/resources/prc-scores.html
23:12 neilb doh
23:12 ether :)
23:12 neilb anyway, reload the URL, I regenerated the page
23:12 ether is the code easily publishable?
23:12 genehack neilb: i'm sure that's very interesting ... for you.
23:12 * ether is still dying of curiosity to see how some things are scoring so highly
23:12 neilb :-p
23:13 neilb http://rawgit.com/CPAN-PRC/resources/master/prc-scores.html
23:14 genehack 8^D
23:14 neilb So Moose is likely to be your dist that gets assigned in April
23:14 neilb on April 1st, of course :-)
23:14 thrig lies!
23:15 neilb maybe I should make the scores table be “scores of dists not yet assigned”, since that’s really what’s of interest
23:16 genehack neilb: i was going to suggest that
23:17 genehack as my highest scoring thing has already been assigned 8^)
23:19 neilb genehack: done!
23:20 ether neilb: add another column with a checkmark in it, for "has been assigned"
23:20 neilb having seen my remaining dists: now do I fix some bugs, or add some
23:21 ether add some bugs?!
23:21 ether :)
23:21 neilb ether: can’t do that. Some people don’t want to be identified as taking part, and that would make it easy to identify them.
23:21 ether I'd just leave those dists/authors off the list entirely
23:21 neilb I told them that I wouldn’t provide lists that made it easy to identify that they are taking part
23:22 neilb yeah, guess i could do that. But not tonight :-)
23:22 ether it's going to be pretty obvious by the end of the year which dists or authors are blacklisted, because they won't have been on any of the months' assignment lists.
23:22 neilb I could leave those out too :-)
23:24 neilb bed time!
23:25 ether are you marking "done" when the PR is sent, or merged?
23:38 kid51 joined #pr-challenge
23:40 BooK ether: I think when the player says "done"
23:45 thrig or uncle
