00:08 Zoffix So I want to submit more than one PR to my assigned dist, do I have to wait until I submit all of them, before I email back saying I am done? Would they be all listed automagically on the assignment list (e.g. http://cpan-prc.org/february.html) or does each one have to be added manually by the maintainer of the list?
00:13 neilb you can claim done as soon as you’ve done one PR. The PRs are grabbed automatically by my script that builds the assignments listing pages
00:13 Zoffix \o/

08:56 monsieurp neilb: so you have a script that does your job for you?
08:57 neilb that’s generally true, but true for the PRC too :-)
08:57 monsieurp ah ah ah
08:58 neilb it’s multiple scripts: a bunch for grabbing various sources of data, one that marshalls those, one that hands out assignments, etc
08:58 monsieurp written in Perl, I guess (hopefully)
09:00 fuzzix I believe it's a Ruby on Rails app ;)
09:00 monsieurp ah :P
09:01 monsieurp speaking of which
09:01 monsieurp excerpted from a conversation in #ruby@irc.freenode.net I had yesterday
09:02 monsieurp [20:29:33] [  monsieurp ] is there something like cpantesters for Ruby that isn't Travis CI?
09:02 monsieurp [20:34:33] [  jhass ] monsieurp: https://github.com/travis-ci/
09:02 monsieurp what's up with Rubyists?
09:07 fuzzix Yes, let's judge the whole community based on one response ;)
09:07 fuzzix Honestly though, I do not miss #rails
09:19 monsieurp fuzzix: :) I was jesting
09:19 monsieurp but this is usually the kind of answers you get when asking a question there

09:27 neilb monsieurp: hai!
10:03 monsieurp hai!
10:10 BooK monsieurp: that's because you're asking negative questions
10:12 monsieurp was my question negative?
10:12 monsieurp how would you have formulated it differently?

19:12 ambs and this month assignment already bubbling fixes! http://blogs.perl.org/users/alberto_simoes/2015/03/cpan-pr-challenge-march-report-1.html

21:44 ambs yay
21:45 ambs mine could be either way (complete or not) but I expect to do something more.
21:48 neilb veryrusty is a first: he’d previously done PRs for the dist that was assigned to him!
21:51 ambs hehehe
21:51 ambs I did a PR on a dependency, and reported a bug there that was fixed too fast by the author :-)
21:54 neilb You caused a bug to be fixed \o/
22:03 Zoffix Is it OK to git questions here? I submitted a PR with one commit that affected about 8 files in total. Now the author wants me to split the changes into two commits and undo any changes I've done to 6 files altogether (the changes are just one line of text added). What's the sanest way to do that? I'm a git noob
22:03 Zoffix (in fact, I keep mentally calling it "jit" lol)
22:05 thrig savefiles; rm -rf thedir; git clone ...
22:06 Zoffix thrig++
22:09 thrig or I guess there's some fancy git-remerge-crossclone-blarflingle thing you could do
22:10 fuzzix I'm great with Git, after reading hundreds of tutorials off hackernews. Terrible programmer, though.
22:31 Zoffix OK, I thought I got it, but I don't really... I saved files, I rm -fr... but what do I git clone?
22:33 vroom joined #pr-challenge
22:34 Zoffix nm... I can work with this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/927358/how-to-undo-the-last-commit
22:36 Zoffix This PR challenge is great, not only for fixing Perl stuff, but also learning new things.
22:36 * Zoffix hides his git commit history at work....
22:36 Zoffix I probably have more than a dozen commit messages that read '*shrug*' :)
22:58 sue joined #pr-challenge
22:58 genehack i have the same but the message is a variation of "I am fucking stupid"
23:00 haarg i make tons of commits with the message "welp" but they all get rebased away

23:11 neilb ether: pushed a new version of the scoring table — the CPANTS data was out of date, as for some reason my marshaller wasn’t running the “update CPANTS data” bit :-(
23:11 neilb some things have got a lower score and some higher (across all people I mean, not just your 10% of CPAN :-)
23:12 genehack is it down to just 10% now 8^p
23:13 genehack neilb: the CPANTS data was ... pants?
23:13 * neilb tries to come up with some quip based on “old” and “pants"
23:13 thrig it would have to be seamless
23:14 neilb walk away
23:14 thrig what, and risk exposing holes in my argument?
23:19 * genehack returns and is sad at what he has caused
23:19 mcmillhj joined #pr-challenge
23:25 Zoffix Wtf is "8^p"? I keep seeing it in Perl channels?
23:25 ether Zoffix: to revert (parts of) the last commit, you can do  'git reset HEAD^ -p'
23:26 ether that will give you the interactive thingy and you can select bits to undo
23:26 ether then you need to look at 'git status'
23:26 ether ..and 'git checkout -p' the bits you truly want to throw away
23:26 ether or, commit them as a new commit
23:27 Zoffix Thanks. I ended up doing git reset --hard HEAD^; copy over files with changes; make commits; git push --force
23:28 ether and there goes neilb...
23:28 Zoffix I should definitely read some tutorial on in, when I'm soberer... The whole HEAD business is still a mystery to me; I'm sure once that's clear the rest will be easy.
23:28 Zoffix s/in/it/;

23:42 genehack Zoffix: it's :^p with glasses
23:42 genehack which in turn is :p but with a nose
23:42 genehack which in turn is :) but with the tongue stuck out
23:42 Zoffix 0.o
23:43 Zoffix Out of a million guesses that would not be one...
23:43 genehack ==b o_o
23:43 Zoffix I was about to look up what CTRL+p meant lol
23:46 moltar joined #pr-challenge
23:48 ether Zoffix: the git-scm tutorials are all very good
23:48 ether HEAD == where you are right now
23:48 ether so HEAD~1 is "one commit behind"
23:48 Zoffix Cool, I'll bookmark it
23:48 ether git rebase -i HEAD~6 -- interactive rebasing of the last 6 commits.
23:49 ether git rebase -i master  (when in a branch) -- interactively rebase up to where I branched from master
23:49 Zoffix neat
23:49 ether (and also updates your branch with master commits too, at the same time.)
23:49 ether git rebase master -- the same, but JFDI and don't do it interactively
