13:01 monsieurp HM.
13:03 monsieurp Today is St Patrick's day.
13:10 athos joined #pr-challenge
13:13 haarg i may drop out of the pr challenge this month.
13:14 haarg so far all there's been to do is kwalitee fixes, which i consider mostly useless anyway.

14:13 neilb haarg: test coverage?
14:16 haarg increasing test coverage on modules i otherwise have no investment in is not particularly interesting to me.

14:16 monsieurp package assignment is done randomly
14:17 monsieurp you knew that before signing up, didn't you? :)
14:18 haarg yes.  and the result turns out to not be interesting.
14:18 monsieurp further, what's the point in working on packages you're already familiar with?
14:19 haarg that wasn't what i meant
14:19 monsieurp picking up bugs related to packages you've never worked with before is good practice to get out of your comfort zone
14:19 monsieurp but hey
14:19 haarg increasing test coverage is something i'll work on for projects i'm already involved with
14:19 haarg but in the context of the pr challenge, it doesn't interest me
14:20 haarg if there were bugs that would be one thing
14:20 haarg but so far, no bugs
14:20 monsieurp flag it up to neilb then before getting on with a pr
14:22 neilb yeah, it turns out a good percentage of people want to get bugs, and there aren’t enough dists *from different authors* that are on github AND have outstanding bugs
14:23 neilb time to revisit the whole re-assigning dists rule, specifically for dists that have outstanding bugs and non-author revdeps, I think
14:24 neilb plus, unsurprisingly, for any given person large swathes of CPAN aren’t very interesting :-)
14:25 haarg i could skip this month or ask for a new dist, but given how things have gone i'm more inclined to just bow out.  there's plenty of other ways i contribute that i can spend my spare time on.

15:37 Jayce hey, one of my packages has some broken old tests, you could always pick that up :)
15:37 * Jayce really needs to get around to cleaning that up
15:57 rvandam joined #pr-challenge
15:57 oalders i also wish i'd gotten dists with more outstanding bugs to fix. my feb assignment had no open bug tickets at all
16:03 Jayce yeah, I'm digging for stuff that can be done on mine.. the kwalitee bugs are actually fixed in git already, just not in a published version
16:07 neilb I’m going to free up 100 or so January assignments before the end of the month. Lots of the good dists got locked to people who haven’t done anything, and haven’t responded to any of my direct emails. They’re gonna get one last chance then lose their dist. They’ll then be up for assignment in April.
16:10 monsieurp neilb: ME ME ME!
16:11 * neilb makes a note, Win32-OLE for monsieurp (lots of bugs)
16:11 monsieurp NO!
16:11 monsieurp :(
16:12 monsieurp guys, you know.. you can always talk to the package maintainer before getting on with your PR
16:12 cary-elvis ihan hulluja kenttiä xD https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=preh1QKCps8#t=67
16:12 cary-elvis sorry
16:13 monsieurp simply because there isn't a single bug on rt.cpan.org and all tests pass fine on cpantesters.org doesn't mean there's nothing left for you to fix
16:15 monsieurp haarg: did you drop an email to your package maintainer? something like "hello, I'm partaking in the CPAN PR, I have to work on your package this month, how can I help?"
16:22 jb360 monsieurp & haarg: FWIW last month ether made a great and valid suggestion to me: I was unsuccessful contacting the author/owner of my Feb assignment, she suggested contacting them via RT -- they literally responded within minutes.
16:23 monsieurp jb360: email has proven to work as far as I'm concerned ;) but thanks for the suggestion ;)
16:23 jb360 monsieurp: ether gets the credit.
16:24 monsieurp thanks ether
16:31 ether 07:22 < neilb> yeah, it turns out a good percentage of people want to get bugs, and there aren’t enough dists *from different authors* that are on github AND have outstanding bugs
16:32 ether ^^ that's a load of crap :)
16:32 ether IMHO :)
16:32 ether you may need to start reassigning dists but there's nothing wrong with that
16:32 ether both URI and libwww-perl went out in the first month and got one-line PRs
16:33 ether it would be scandalous if that meant those dists are "done" and are never assigned again
16:33 ether (as examples of dists that are widely used with long bug lists)
16:34 ether neilb> I’m going to free up 100 or so January assignments before the end of the month....
16:34 ether ^^ yay :)
16:34 neilb a shame, rather than scandalous, I’ll agree to :-)
16:35 ether it would be interesting to see the bug count split out as a separate column in the score table
16:35 ether we know there's lots of dists out there with 10+ bugs, but I'm not sure how many are displaying github metadata
16:36 neilb 273
