15:01 jacoby Anyone here Win32 users?
15:11 rvandam joined #pr-challenge
15:39 ambs not really, but try asking anyway :)
15:40 jacoby My assigned module is System::Command, and Book asked me to take a piece of code that fails in Win32 and turn it into a test.
15:41 jacoby I *think* I have it isolated to a bit that linuxPerl is happy with but winPerl doesn't like
15:41 ambs nice
15:42 jacoby When I run it in a Git Bash shell, works.
15:42 jacoby When I run it in Powershell, it locks it up entirely.
15:42 ambs hmms, that sounds interesting.
15:43 ambs not sure what gitbash uses
15:43 ambs ok, BASH emulation. So, the way arguments are parsed and the like will work as linux
15:43 ambs but in powershell or cmd not.
15:44 ambs that would be my first bet.
15:44 jacoby I know. I think problem is IPC::Run::Win32Pump, which isn't Sysem::Command
15:45 jacoby Made a gist so I don't just dump a bunch of errors here: https://gist.github.com/jacoby/8c99b3e6e6d76ab18d4c
15:46 jacoby And, with that, I'm off to lunch and will rejoin in ~1hour.
15:47 ambs probably you can try to write a simple test script using only IPC::Run::Win32Pump and submit a bug report.
16:09 ether you may also find more people to help at #win32.

16:25 ambs and what ether says :)

21:29 ether neilb: no if $] > '5.021006', 'warnings', 'redundant';  would work
21:29 ether but making the number of parameters always work out is a better solution anyway :)
21:29 neilb I figured there was some incantation using ‘if’ — thanks
21:30 neilb yeah, it’s gonna take me a while to get my head round that code, so figured I’d do the blanket “no warnings” in the meantime.
21:30 ether weird, this was the root cause of the Test::Differences issue after all? I don't really see how
21:31 ether ah, I didn't see the 'no warnings' bit. I thought you'd fixed it by removing the redundant args.
21:31 neilb I did for the first bit, the second bit needs more grokking
21:32 neilb yeah, it is weird. I fixed the warnings, and then Test::Differences installed cleanly on 5.23.2 \o/
21:40 ether strange. this makes me more suspicious of TD
21:51 neilb Which TD, Text::Diff or Test::Differences? :-)
21:52 thrig hmm, is there a reason for the -w on test script hashbangs e.g. under Extutils::MakeMaker?
22:12 mjgardner joined #pr-challenge
22:21 ether neilb: er, heh, yes, I mean I'm suspicious of Test::Differences now :)
22:21 ether thrig: yes, but you should ask that on #toolchain
22:21 ether sometimes there is a good reason and sometimes there isn't
