17:59 nibalizer mgagne: bodepd are you going to PuppetConf?
17:59 mgagne nibalizer: no, my colleagues are going
18:00 nibalizer :( they should have brouht mgagne
18:00 nibalizer where do you work?
18:02 mgagne nibalizer: I work at iWeb. They (my colleagues) use Puppet to automate part of our management infra and products. I'm not directly involved with the product itself, I however use Puppet to automate our OpenStack infra.
18:03 openstackgerrit Dan Bode proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-cinder: set package defaults to present  https://review.openstack.org/42963

18:37 bodepd mgagne: pong
18:38 bodepd nibalizer: I'm surprisingly noto going. Gotta bein a wedding those exact days in Dallas
18:42 mgagne bodepd: what's the plan for puppet-neutron on forge?
18:44 nibalizer bodepd: noooo, okay its decided #portland-puppet-openstack-beer is happening
18:47 bodepd nibalizer: when is that?
18:47 bodepd mgagne: is ignoring it for 6 weeks an option :)
18:48 bodepd mgagne: there will not be a puppet-neutron until after havana
18:48 mgagne bodepd: I don't mind, we will have to figure it out somedays. We shouldn't wait for the release to happen to publish our modules IMO
18:48 bodepd mgagne: so I'm not sure I understand the question
18:49 bodepd mgagne: we can publish grizzly versions (based on the stable branhces)
18:49 bodepd mgagne: that has nothing to do with neutron.
18:49 bodepd mgagne: for havana, I'm not in any place to approve a release. I haven't even started running automated tests against it
18:49 bodepd mgagne: I woudl revisit in 6 weeks, but not anytime soon
18:50 bodepd mgagne: my main concern with the forge is that it's too easy to get the latest version
18:50 mgagne bodepd: I mean we should find a way to do pre-release for our modules so people can test using forge
18:50 bodepd mgagne: ah. what do you think is the timeframe for that?
18:51 mgagne bodepd: tbh, it should be now but I understand that people don't have the bandwidth to plan such things
18:51 bodepd mgagne: I'm 6 weeks away from being ready for that.
18:51 mgagne bodepd: ok
18:51 bodepd mgagne: I'm doing the kickstack rewrite atm (almost done)
18:51 mgagne bodepd: I would like to be able to install from forge the latest and greatest version from forge
18:51 bodepd mgagne: then I need to make sure the vagrant provider meets our use cases.
18:52 mgagne bodepd: ok
18:52 bodepd mgagne: then, I'll fix testing, then I can think about a release
18:52 bodepd mgagne: hmm...
18:52 bodepd mgagne: what is wrong with installing from source?
18:52 mgagne bodepd: why are we releasing to forge then?
18:53 bodepd mgagne: that is a good question. exposure. stability
18:55 bodepd mgagne: from your perspective, why are we releasing to the forge
18:55 mgagne bodepd: I would like to find a way to move away from install from source, as much as I can install from testing/unstable, I should be able to do the same with forge IMO
18:56 bodepd mgagne: if you go back in time. The main motivation for the forge releases was for web tracking and marketing analytics.
18:56 bodepd mgagne: I haven't properly thought about the reasons beyond that
18:56 mgagne bodepd: what PuppetLabs is pushing is the forge, not Puppetfile or manual git clone
18:58 bodepd mgagne: I was assuming that forge releases would be periodic stable releases post openstack release
18:59 bodepd mgagne: I guess the main reason I haven't been too forge focused is selfish.
18:59 mgagne bodepd: =)
18:59 bodepd mgagne: it hasn't historically had very good integration with development practices
18:59 blkperl s/historically/currenltly ? :)
19:00 bodepd mgagne: these days, in theroy, we could write a rake task that can at least pubish
19:00 bodepd mgagne: when would we release to the forge?
19:00 bodepd mgagne: continusouly?
19:01 mgagne bodepd: yes? why not? maybe a dev channel?
19:02 blkperl it would be cool if the forge supported unstable releases
19:02 blkperl or even rc candidates
19:03 mgagne blkperl: It does with semantic versioning, not sure how Modulefile handles it
19:03 mgagne blkperl: Puppetfile however does not like semver 2.0.0 =)
19:04 otherwiseguy joined #puppet-openstack
19:04 blkperl I think it defaults to the newest version though, so if upload version-rc  it will isntall it
19:05 nibalizer bodepd: after bkero and I get back from puppet conf
19:13 bodepd mgagne: you've just gone past what the forge supports
19:14 mgagne bodepd: sad panda
19:14 bodepd mgagne: all users will just download whatever the latest happens to be
19:14 bodepd mgagne: it has no developer workflows built in
19:14 bodepd blkperl: the forge (more specifically modulefile) suppots rc, -a, and some other stuff like that
19:14 mgagne bodepd: fun stuff... wondering how they test their releases before it lands on forge
19:14 bodepd blkperl: but I guess there is the question of what does support mean.
19:15 bodepd blkperl: b/c you just get these things if you do an install
19:15 bodepd blkperl: by default
19:15 blkperl yeah thats what I was refereing too
19:15 bodepd blkperl: I just saw that :)
19:15 mgagne blkperl: this is probably valid while are you there... 2.0.0-baboon7
19:15 bodepd mgagne: if you have a reasonable plan, let me know.
19:15 mgagne bodepd: thinking about it
19:15 blkperl you should have to explictly specify version or maybe an unstable flag
19:16 blkperl but forge team is slow to make new features go
19:16 bodepd mgagne: did you see that I have Puppetfile embedded in the openstack module?
19:16 bodepd mgagne: what's wrong with that?
19:16 mgagne bodepd: it does not test what I want to test
19:17 bodepd mgagne: what do you want to test?
19:17 bodepd mgagne: stable releases of everything else, and master of openstack modules?
19:17 mgagne bodepd: testing the Modulefile dependencies
19:17 mgagne bodepd: and stuff related to it
19:17 bodepd we could have the Puppetfile tend towards released versions of everything, instead of master
19:18 bodepd things *have* stabilized to the point where this is reasonable
19:18 mgagne bodepd: if we use Puppetfile for tests, we are blind when releasing stuff to forge and have to do manual work to test
19:18 dprince joined #puppet-openstack
19:19 mgagne bodepd: but I'm not sure it will be ever possible, some modules have dependencies between them
19:19 bodepd mgagne: how f-ing cool is this: https://gist.github.com/bodepd/6285949
19:19 bodepd mgagne: I had forge based tests working
19:19 mgagne bodepd: catalog diff?
19:20 bodepd mgagne: https://github.com/CiscoSystems/openstack-installer/blob/master/tests/basic_test.sh#L33
19:20 bodepd mgagne: yeah. I had to patch RI's tools a bit yesterday
19:20 mgagne bodepd: it's f***ing awesome
19:20 bodepd mgagne: I freaking love that feature.
19:21 bodepd mgagne: I just verified resource differences for basic deployment of kickstack vs. what I was using before (puppet-coi)
19:21 bodepd mgagne: now, hopefully, I can deploy for the first time and it will just work
19:21 bodepd mgagne: so that less awesome link, the dirty bash script.
19:22 bodepd mgagne: that is what I was doing before
19:22 bodepd mgagne: just allowing a jenkins build parameter to specific librarian vs. for install
19:22 bodepd uhh. vs. module tool
19:38 rcrit I'm working on enabling SSL for mySQL. I did the changes locally in the context of Foreman/packstack and want to submit these upstream.
19:40 rcrit The client-side changes are in the openstack-puppet modules (keystone, nova, glance, mostly changing the sql_connection) but I don't know where the mysql::db  files originate
19:40 rcrit they came from packstack in my install but that seems RHEL-specific
19:50 openstackgerrit Daneyon Hansen proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-openstack: WIP: Adds Keystone SSL Support  https://review.openstack.org/42983
21:20 EmilienM hello here
21:20 bodepd rcrit: should be git://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-mysql, but the 0.x branch
21:20 bodepd EmilienM: hey
21:22 rcrit bodepd, I think what I'm looking fore actually is packstack
21:23 EmilienM bodepd: hi
21:23 EmilienM I would love to have some feedback on https://review.openstack.org/#/c/41908/
21:23 EmilienM when you have time guys
21:23 EmilienM tomorrow, I'm going to test the manifests in our infra
21:23 EmilienM but if you have any comments to give on the code, please review :)
21:35 openstackgerrit Daneyon Hansen proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-openstack: Passes the Keystone token_format Parameter  https://review.openstack.org/43004
21:37 bodepd EmilienM: I did some quick review. all-in-all it looks good
21:38 EmilienM bodepd: fc__ helped me a lot on that, I still have to finish all the tests to check everything is running
21:39 bodepd rcrit: we sit upstream of themem

21:56 mgagne bodepd: like logstash?
21:56 bodepd mgagne: sure :)
21:56 mgagne bodepd: check infra? =)
21:57 mgagne bodepd: we have been trying to work on that for years without success for various reasons
21:57 bodepd mgagne: I'd settle for rsyslog or syslog-ng :)
21:58 mgagne bodepd: =) I've tried syslog-ng, it's ok
