14:18 fvollero EmilienM: Good afternoon :)
14:18 EmilienM fvollero: Sir.
14:19 fvollero EmilienM: Mon ami!
14:33 sbadia hi
14:33 sbadia fvollero: for puppet unit tests ?
14:33 sbadia fvollero: you must fix .fixture (pin posgres module to 2.5)
14:33 sbadia refs https://review.openstack.org/#/c/47870/
14:35 fvollero sbadia: But puppet-heat is not using postgres

14:48 kpaz hey all - are there any tricks to deploying rabbitmq?  i'm deploying as per https://forge.puppetlabs.com/puppetlabs/rabbitmq (along with keystone/nova/glance/horizon) - when the deploy is finished rabbitmq is running but dumping loads of "AMQPLAIN login refused: user 'nova' - invalid credentials" logs.  is there some step i'm missing to setup users and/or queues in rabbit?
14:49 kpaz i configure nova to use rabbit with: class { 'nova::rabbitmq': }
14:54 sbadia fvollero: hum it's seems that puppet-mysql > 1.x break backward compatibility, with origin/0.x no problem here
14:56 openstackgerrit Sebastien Badia proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-heat: Pin mysql module to 0.x branch  https://review.openstack.org/48467
14:56 fvollero sbadia: amazing :/ I found the same bug in the meantime :)

18:37 bodepd hogepodge: pong
18:38 hogepodge What's the procedure for communicating with Openstack-infra for putting a new project into stackforge? re puppet-vswitch.
18:38 hogepodge Is this something that you or another more senior core person would handle?
18:39 blkperl hogepodge: i think you can make pull request against openstack-infra :)
18:40 mgagne hogepodge: it's self-service. clone openstack-infra/config, patch and ask for review on gerrit.
18:40 mgagne blkperl: pull request has no meaning here =)
18:40 pabelanger hogepodge, Yup, clone, update and git-review
18:41 blkperl mgagne: what do you say then? make a git review? :)
18:41 mgagne hogepodge: anyone can ASK for the creation of a new project on stackforge
18:41 hogepodge I see.
18:41 hogepodge Is this documented somewhere that I missed?
18:41 mgagne hogepodge: core reviewers on infra approve or not the creation. if the project is unrelated to openstack, it might be refused
18:41 mgagne hogepodge: yes
18:41 pabelanger hogepodge, http://ci.openstack.org/stackforge.html
18:41 mgagne hogepodge: http://ci.openstack.org/stackforge.html
18:42 blkperl jinx
18:42 pabelanger woah
18:42 pabelanger :)
18:42 hogepodge pinch poke you owe each other a coke
18:42 mgagne hogepodge: you can look the git log and see how we imported other projects
18:43 pabelanger basically there are 4 things you need to update, zuul, jenkins, gerrit and JJB
18:43 hogepodge http://wondermark.com/378/
18:44 hogepodge Ok.
18:45 hogepodge There's some unit testing with the vswitch module, but very minimal.
18:45 mgagne hogepodge: and you might want to create a project on launchpad to track bugs and stuff
18:45 mgagne hogepodge: totally optional
18:45 hogepodge Right, I figured lanchpad would be another point I had to manage.
18:48 openstackgerrit A change was merged to stackforge/puppet-openstack: Fix typo with vncproxy_host for ::nova::compute  https://review.openstack.org/48367
18:50 bodepd hogepodge:  you may just want to look through the commit history for the changes that mgagne and I have made against openstack-infra
18:51 bodepd the history of openstack-infra/config that is
18:51 mgagne hogepodge: compare with the actual configuration and search/replace for your project name
18:52 hogepodge I'll do that.
18:53 openstackgerrit Paul Belanger proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-openstack: Fix typo with vncproxy_host for ::nova::compute  https://review.openstack.org/48512
19:03 mgagne bodepd: do you think the keystone patches are ready to be merged?
19:03 mgagne in fact, can anyone else look at them?
19:03 bodepd mgagne: ah, those
19:03 bodepd mgagne: I can at least remove the dependency on one of them
19:04 bodepd the user-role one is defintely not ready
19:04 mgagne bodepd: ok, although it works for me =)
19:04 bodepd I ran an install wiht it yesterday and it exploded
19:04 mgagne hmmm
19:05 bodepd this is ready: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/47673/
19:05 bodepd but it shoudl not depend on the other one
19:05 bodepd I need more time on the user-role one
19:05 mgagne the other is merged
19:05 bodepd I just do not feel good about it breaking things
19:05 bodepd ah...
19:05 bodepd hold on.
19:05 bodepd maybe I misread that
19:05 mgagne user_role can wait
19:06 bodepd merge that one
19:06 bodepd I'm not feeling 100% about the other one
19:06 bodepd (user-role)
19:06 mgagne it's ok
19:06 bodepd I'll try to find the time to get to 100% on it this weekend
19:06 bodepd mgagne: it *will* get it though :)
19:06 bodepd mgagne: I'm glad you helped me finally sit down and resole the known performance issues :)
19:07 mgagne bodepd: tyvm for your help =)
19:07 bodepd mgagne: I've known about them (and occassionaly watched all of the calls spin by in debug apalled)
19:07 openstackgerrit Mathieu Gagné proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-keystone: Make tenant name lookup for keystone user lazy  https://review.openstack.org/48514
19:07 bodepd I'm been lenient on one person merging code
19:07 mgagne need to be rebased: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/47673/
19:07 bodepd we just don't have anough review traffic to warrant 2 reviews at the moment
19:08 bodepd uggh.
19:08 mgagne want me to rebase?
19:09 openstackgerrit Mathieu Gagné proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-keystone: Do not set tenant description in cache  https://review.openstack.org/47673

19:20 mgagne bodepd: how do you manage apt-get update in your env.?
19:20 mgagne bodepd: I have an exec resource running apt-get update at each puppet run but
19:20 mgagne bodepd: it is reported as a changed resource at each run
19:28 mgagne bodepd: mind reviewing https://review.openstack.org/#/c/48515/ ?
19:30 hogepodge For upstream, puppetlabs-vswitch good for everyone?
19:30 hogepodge Or defer to rhel or cisco?
19:31 mgagne hogepodge: at forge?
19:31 hogepodge yeah, stackforge wants an upstream repo.
19:31 mgagne hogepodge: upstream repo is used for import only. it has no use after the import.
19:32 hogepodge ok, I see.
19:32 EmilienM hello here
19:32 mgagne hogepodge: I don't use vswitch so I can't tell which implementation/fork is better.
19:33 EmilienM mgagne: in production, we use https://github.com/CiscoSystems/puppet-vswitch
19:33 hogepodge I think packstack has the most recent changes. https://github.com/packstack/puppet-vswitch.git
19:33 hogepodge I expect there will have to be a merge effort.
19:33 mgagne packstack looks to have more files and tests
19:34 hogepodge "I just reviewed a pull request for adding the ability to move an existing interface into a bridge and have the bridge take over it's IP in the packstack github account"
19:34 mgagne hogepodge: packstack version looks to be more active. We should probably look with them.
19:35 mgagne hogepodge: the packstack repo looks to be a mirror only
19:36 EmilienM bodepd, mgagne: could you review a couple of puppet-neutron patches ?
19:39 mgagne EmilienM: ever tried to break on purpose one of your rspec test?
19:39 mgagne EmilienM: putting garbage in expectations and see if it fails
19:40 EmilienM mgagne: sounds like i miss something in my tests :/
19:40 mgagne EmilienM: your tests are not running
19:42 EmilienM mgagne: do i miss something or they run for me ? > http://paste.openstack.org/show/P61mpmkcPCqi8Ju8bbOF/
19:43 mgagne EmilienM: refering to https://review.openstack.org/#/c/46351/6
19:44 mgagne EmilienM: I'm aiming for the low-hanging-fruit
19:44 EmilienM oh
19:45 pabelanger https://github.com/packstack/puppet-vswitch.git seem to be more actively developed
19:45 pabelanger if RDO is cool with the import, I'd say use it for upstream
19:46 pabelanger then create a branch, so development can continue :)
19:47 EmilienM mgagne: thx for catching that, i should have read twice results.
19:49 mgagne pabelanger: I wouldn't mind if they publish the module of forge and we use that instead.
19:49 pabelanger mgagne, ya, that works too
19:50 pabelanger what ever people are happy with
19:50 pabelanger I'm sure there is going to be some pain getting every body on the same branch
19:50 mgagne =)
19:50 pabelanger s/branch/repo
20:12 openstackgerrit Emilien Macchi proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-neutron: Add Neutron service_plugins support  https://review.openstack.org/46351

20:13 openstackgerrit A change was merged to stackforge/puppet-keystone: Do not set tenant description in cache  https://review.openstack.org/48515
20:13 mgagne I configured my editor to show the diff of the commit and writing the commit message so I can review =)
20:13 EmilienM i have to produce a new patchset for a typo, and go to bed \o/
20:13 EmilienM mgagne: which editor ?
20:14 mgagne I use Sublime Text
20:14 mgagne git commit -v
20:14 mgagne more that I configured git to show the diff
20:14 mgagne EmilienM: and duplicated test: it_configures 'rabbit HA with multiple hosts'
20:14 EmilienM yes yes, i've seen my error
20:15 EmilienM sublime, nice
20:15 openstackgerrit Emilien Macchi proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-neutron: Add Neutron service_plugins support  https://review.openstack.org/46351
20:21 EmilienM mgagne: i'm testing sublime, very nice
20:21 mgagne works for me ^^
20:22 mgagne sublime supports textmate bundles too
20:22 mgagne EmilienM: https://github.com/masterzen/puppet-textmate-bundle
20:24 EmilienM mgagne: you put -1 without comment ?
20:24 mgagne EmilienM: see inline?
20:24 mgagne damn
20:24 mgagne drafts are on previous patch set
20:25 bodepd EmilienM: my only comment, is that for the array arg, I want to make sure the user gets a reasonable erorr message when you pass a string
20:25 EmilienM mgagne: i was wondering if i was crazy
20:25 bodepd EmilienM: and perhaps a test to code what that does
20:25 bodepd EmilienM: I +2'ed the other one for the puppet stuff
20:25 mgagne bodepd: validate_array maybe?
20:26 bodepd mgagne: yeah. or patch join to not hate strings :)
20:26 mgagne bodepd: or is_array and custom fail message
20:26 mgagne bodepd: +100
20:26 bodepd (since puppet DSL kind of treats them the same)
20:26 EmilienM bodepd: mgagne : sure, i do it right now
20:26 bodepd alright, back to the grind :)

20:47 bodepd EmilienM: If it's large, it may take a little time before I can get around to it
20:48 EmilienM bodepd: it's large, but nevermind if you don't have time to look at it before i publish it (which could be tomorrow or next week)

21:36 kpaz working on an install with puppet and just noticed when i do a nova-manage service list the zone is "internal" for all items except nova-compute - it is "nova".  is this an issue?  anyone know what argument i pass to the class to specify the zone?   i tried zone but it was invalid - haven't seen anything in the docs.....
21:37 mgagne could it be related to availability zone?
21:38 kpaz could be - is there a way to specify the availability zone?   haven't seen it in any of the examples.....
21:38 mgagne kpaz: I'm not using them yet so I didn't check
21:39 mgagne kpaz: could be default values puppet aren't handling (yet)

22:17 mjblack got a quick question, if the endpoint urls are the same why would the keystone_endpoint create new endpoints for each controller?
22:28 mgagne mjblack: each controller? do you have more than one controller?
22:28 mgagne mjblack: what is a controller? nova-api? or a server which happens to host nova-api, cinder-api, etc.
22:32 hogepodge all: RedHat is good with us using them for the upstream seed. They mentioned someone might want to review their latest patch. Nothing jumps out at me except for maybe testing. It's already weak, though, and we could file bugs against it.
22:32 hogepodge https://github.com/packstack/puppet-vswitch/commit/06fd1ea9a7dbe5f5d236c5256b1de2db147e3bb2
22:32 mjblack I have 3 controllers
22:32 mjblack basically an HA setup
22:33 mjblack They were setup with a VIP for the services and I'm seeing for each endpoint 3 database entries, the only difference being the uuid
22:33 mgagne mjblack: do you have a load-balancer like haproxy? There should only be 1 endpoint per service, pointing to your load-balancer.
22:33 hogepodge It customizes the provider for RH-family OSes.
22:34 mgagne mjblack: make sure the endpoint is not based on the hostname of the actual controller but a DNS entry pointing to your VIP (or the VIP itself)
22:34 mjblack yes, I'm using ha proxy and the admin, public, internal addresses are setup using the VIP
22:35 mgagne mjblack: could also be a timing issue where 3 controllers are trying to manage the endpoint
22:35 mjblack right, so its actually setup using the ip address instead of a dns address
22:35 hogepodge From Terry, "I tried to guide things to the best of my ability re: things like "suitability" etc., and it should just apply to running on Red Hat-based systems, but a "puppet expert" might have some insight into the change."
22:35 mjblack thought that might have been it too but the controllers are setup with mysql galera wsrep, which is brought up before the node checks in with puppet
22:36 mjblack I dont know why it happened as looking at the code it should not happen
23:20 dmsimard joined #puppet-openstack
23:20 bodepd mjblack: in theory it shouldn't have to
23:21 bodepd mjblack: Puppet just asks keystone what is there, and adds the things that are needed
23:22 bodepd mjblack: it just uses keystone user-list (and calls like that locally)
23:23 bodepd mjblack: the question may be 'why is the result of those calls not the same'
23:23 bodepd mjblack: I was working on a very similar configuration today :)
