12:11 EmilienM i'm wondering why we make effort to maintain puppet-openstack while we are trying to get puppet-{nova,neutron,...} ready for openstack releases...

13:24 michchap @EmilienM the top level classes?
13:24 EmilienM michchap: hello !
13:25 michchap hey :)
13:25 EmilienM how is it going in australia ? :)
13:25 michchap I moved to Sydney, and it's just coming into summer, so pretty good!
13:26 EmilienM michchap: nic
13:26 EmilienM michchap: i don't use puppet-openstack because it does not use neutron for example.
13:27 EmilienM maybe i'm wrong?
13:27 michchap EmilienM: We're slowly moving off it as well, but our grizzly release is still using it
13:27 EmilienM ok
13:28 michchap doing the top level classes well is quite difficult. Florian's kickstack project is one good way to do things.
13:30 michchap Are you coming to the summit?
13:32 EmilienM michchap: yes, and you ?
13:34 dmsimard joined #puppet-openstack
13:35 michchap EmilienM: Yep I will be there. I think there will be a design session for puppet-openstack.
13:35 EmilienM michchap: very cool !
13:38 michchap EmilienM: So that's probably a good time to talk about the top level classes in general. Florian's kickstack summit talk is on Thursday morning, so maybe we'll try to have a session in the afternoon. I have no idea how scheduling works for design sessions, particularly for peripheral projects like puppet.
13:40 EmilienM michchap: me neither
13:40 EmilienM michchap: puppet-openstack is usable in production ?
13:41 michchap it is part of our product, so yes, but it depends on the requirements
13:41 michchap EmilienM: As you would know, it can be difficult to change some settings because the interfaces aren't exposed.
13:46 EmilienM michchap: got it

15:43 openstackgerrit Emilien Macchi proposed a change to stackforge/puppet-neutron: Add ML2 plugin support  https://review.openstack.org/48289
15:45 EmilienM mgagne: i changed the ml2 manifest like you advised me, but i've still an issue with the define, i've uploaded a patchset just to show the code > https://review.openstack.org/#/c/48289/8/manifests/plugins/ml2.pp
15:45 mgagne EmilienM: I see room for improvement =)
15:45 mgagne EmilienM: I don't have much time today for it, lot of stuff to complete asap.
15:46 EmilienM mgagne: sure

16:41 hogepodge Right now vwsitch doesn't pass lint. I feel like there are a few options. 1 - Don't set up the lint and syntax gate jobs and stage the repo, or 2 - Fix the lint errors and make pull requests to the base repo, then pull into stackforge.
17:03 pabelanger hogepodge, option 1 is good, if you make the gate non-voting
17:04 hogepodge I was looking at that. I imagine my work will be reviewed before being accepted. :-)
17:05 pabelanger hogepodge, is it up on gerrit?
17:05 hogepodge I'm setting up the stackforge repo right now.
17:05 hogepodge Which should set up gettit, etc.
17:06 pabelanger no, sorry.  I meant your review :)
17:16 hogepodge No, not yet. :-)
17:17 hogepodge What does check vs gate mean in the zuul layout?
17:19 hogepodge For now, should I just do gate-noop?

18:16 mjblack Oops got a little delete happy in my commit message
18:17 mgagne mjblack: following the workflow allows us to better track what has been backported (or not) to stable/grizzly.
18:17 mgagne mjblack: it preserves the original Change-Id and add a comment about the original git commit sha

19:45 bodepd mgagne: yeah, the upstream thing and rate-of-change will be interesting to track
19:45 bodepd I'm glad we're pulling in openvswitch
19:45 bodepd I predict more of that
19:45 mgagne bodepd: I updated to puppetlabs-rabbitmq 3.0.0, not much issue with this module
19:46 mgagne bodepd: I find it hard to upgrade without an upgrade guide
19:46 bodepd mgagne: what version of rabbitmq did you use?
19:47 bodepd mgagne: I thought they stopped supporting the version of rabbitmq that ships with precise
19:47 mgagne bodepd: we use 3.1.4
19:47 bodepd mgagne: yeah.
19:47 bodepd mgagne: that is pretty new for everyone
19:48 mgagne bodepd: was using puppetlabs-rabbitmq 2.0.2 before that
19:48 mgagne bodepd: main issues I encountered when upgrading: https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-rabbitmq/issues/126 and https://github.com/puppetlabs/puppetlabs-rabbitmq/issues/125

20:30 mjblack mgagne: I encountered the same issues you ran into with the ha policy, did you come up with a temporary solution?
20:31 mgagne mjblack: I did what I mentionned in the issue on puppetlabs-rabbitmq
20:31 mjblack mgagne: that is actually similar to what I had done. We had upgraded to the latest rabbitmq. There was another issue with the manifests that was causing issues
20:32 mgagne mjblack: I had to change rabbitmq::server to rabbitmq.
20:32 mgagne mjblack: I'm not using nova::rabbitmq to install rabbitmq. I have my own manifest for that.
20:34 mjblack mgagne: right. In my grizzly env I had to fork rabbitmq because if you do config_cluster but dont do config_mirrored_queues, it will never do the package definition
20:34 mjblack the latter tries to install a custom rabbitmq package if its set to true
20:35 ari__ joined #puppet-openstack
20:35 mgagne mjblack: the new module configures a apt::source for rabbitmq (which I'm already managing myself)
20:35 mgagne mjblack: but I guess you are using redhat right?
20:35 mjblack mgagne: ubuntu precise
20:35 mgagne mjblack: ok, same here too
20:40 mjblack mgagne: do you run horizon with ssl?
20:40 mgagne mjblack: no, horizon is isolated on a private network and is only used in our test env.
20:41 mgagne mjblack: I'll have to work on that one someday
20:41 mjblack mgagne: I'm about to submit a change to pass that parameter to horizon class
20:42 mjblack waiting on a spec run to complete before I submit

21:44 bodepd mjblack: the havana version of the cisco stuff should be hiera based
21:44 bodepd (if all goes according to plan)
21:46 bodepd mjblack: I'll defintely be able to reveiw your patches... soon... :)

22:10 bodepd yeah. I looked at that model in a few different ways
22:11 bodepd I decided against a manifest
22:11 bodepd b/c 1. I can use way less data to describe the same thing
22:11 bodepd 2. the data is way more introspectable
22:11 bodepd to do things like compile down data to understnad why inputs a user needs to supply for different reference architecture deployments
22:11 bodepd s/why/what/
22:12 mjblack yeah I'll admit my hiera data is pretty huge :D
22:13 mjblack not something I'll trust everyone to go and modify given how easy it would be to break things
