09:04 SimonPruvost Hello I am a computer science student in the field of free software and I try to learn about projects like puppet-openstack
09:05 EmilienM SimonPruvost: welcome!
09:07 SimonPruvost Can i ask you some questions ? :)
09:20 xingchao SimonPruvost: feel free to ask any question here :)
09:24 EmilienM xingchao: hello, could you review puppet-swift patches ?
09:28 xingchao EmilienM: yes, I have some free time now,  which patch?
09:28 SimonPruvost xingchao: Thank you ! I was wondering how many hours a day or week you work on this project or similar project (i mean collaborative projects like puppet-openstack) ?
09:29 EmilienM xingchao: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/58134/
09:34 xingchao SimonPruvost: Hmm,  nearly two hours per day,  it's a approximate time.
09:38 xingchao EmilienM: I have check swift's proxy-server.conf-sample, +2 for this patchset :)
09:39 SimonPruvost xingchao: Thank you :) and how do you work on it ? You get the last version of the project, work on it and ask the permission to add it on the master branch ?
09:40 EmilienM xingchao: there is already a +2, why not approved ?
09:41 EmilienM xingchao: fc__ is working with me at the office, i don't want to Approve patches that he +2, for fair
09:43 xingchao EmilienM: Ok, I have approved it :)
09:44 fc__ SimonPruvost: hello, about openstack projects in general, all changes go through a review process. Anyone (having signed the contributor license agreement) can submit patches. These patches are the reviewed by other developpers which can vote with +1 or -1. Some people "core developpers" (different for each project) can also vote +2 or -2 and approve patches.
09:46 fc__ SimonPruvost: once a change approved, it's validated (unit tests, integration tests) before being pushed to the master branch.
09:46 fc__ SimonPruvost: once in the master branch, some patches can be proposed to maintenance branches and have to go through the same process again.
09:47 xingchao SimonPruvost: First, my work is related to deployment of openstack, when I find a new bug for a feature missing, I will register a bug/feature on Lanuchpad, then checkout from the master branch, do some hacking and push it to review.openstack.org for peering review. If they approaved my patchset, it wil be merged into the upstream.
09:48 EmilienM xingchao: thank you
09:51 xingchao EmilienM: I really like this patch:  https://review.openstack.org/#/c/52364/ , but it has been abandoned, how to restore this patch?  Or only the committer can restore this patch ?
09:52 xingchao EmilienM: Sorry, I see committer has restore this patchset :)

15:36 EmilienM mattymo: i'll finish it for monday i think
15:36 mattymo in other news, I've got puppet-cinder merged with fuel cinder module and reapplied our improvements for limits and logging
15:36 mattymo and it works and passes spec tests

16:07 xarses dachary: nice talk
16:07 dachary cool
16:07 dachary I'm kind of disapointed that other ( chef, etc. ) did not show up.
16:08 dachary I did not intended to speak so much.
16:08 xarses dachary: as a point of note, near the end, you noted that we need the [mon.X] sections for the centos init scripts, the centos init scripts do work with udev and partation guid, so they aren't required
16:08 dachary ah shoot
16:09 dachary dalgaaf_: mentionned it was required by some init scripts and I incorrectly remembered centos. Is it fedora ?
16:09 xarses dachary: maybe if they cant run the udev script
16:10 dachary xarses: it's a boot time thing
16:10 xarses dachary: yep, sounds like the udev script that pre-mounts / starts everything
16:10 dachary https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/master/src/upstart/ceph-osd-all-starter.conf#L14 is what upstart does
16:11 djschaap joined #puppet-openstack
16:11 dachary what's the url for centos init script ?
16:11 xarses thats what centos does about too
16:11 xarses but there is a udev script for deb and another for centos
16:11 xarses that bypasses this // mounts them
16:12 dachary is it https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/master/src/init-ceph.in#L231 ?
16:12 dachary or another ?
16:14 xarses thats the main init script
16:14 xarses https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/master/src/ceph-disk-udev
16:15 xarses ^ centos udev script
16:17 xarses https://github.com/ceph/ceph/tree/master/udev rules for modern udev systems
16:17 mattymo xarses, anyone else interested, here's my wip commit for factoring in fuel improvements back to cinder: https://github.com/mattymo/puppet-cinder/tree/fuel-upstream
16:18 mattymo more specifically, https://github.com/mattymo/puppet-cinder/commit/f3fe8fb80d1e7c641e117289a5b601ff5cb9b180
16:18 xarses mattymo: will look at that shortly
16:18 mattymo it's still got a lot of cleanup to do
16:19 mattymo and I plan to break it up into separate commits
16:19 mattymo I'm going home now, later all
16:19 Hunner mattymo: Sup
16:20 mattymo ah Hunner fix my bug https://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/5456
16:20 mattymo someone else complained today
16:20 mattymo and now I'm off
16:22 xarses dachary: my understanding from sage was that if the partition has the guid that matches the condition, that one of the udev scripts will mount / activate the partition. Then after the system boot the folders will be mounted so the loop over the osd directory will work. With out the part guid set, then yes you need [mon.X] sections for the host to know what to do
16:23 dalgaaf_ xarses: you need the [mon.x] and [osd.x] sections e.g. for https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/master/src/init-radosgw.sysv and https://github.com/ceph/ceph/blob/master/src/ceph_common.sh for example (check for section keyword)
16:25 Hunner mattymo: I pinged them again :(. They said they reviewed it, but didn't say if it made it on a sprint yet
16:25 xarses ^^ sorry, [osd.X]
16:26 xarses dalgaaf_: init-radosgw.sysv does work with only global/mon_host
16:26 xarses and a section for rados
16:32 xarses back in a bit

17:30 slowe Quick question: the 3.0.0 release of the puppetlabs/openstack module is for Havana. However, I note that the uca.pp manifest still points to the Grizzly repo. Is this an error, or am I overlooking something?
17:32 mgagne slowe: updating it is a manual process. it has been overlooked.
17:35 slowe mgagne: No problem, I understand. I was just making sure that I wasn't misunderstanding the structure of the module or something like that. I would guess that it's simply a matter of updating uca.pp to point to Havana instead of Grizzly, yes?
