02:57 namredips Hi I am getting the following error on deploy with puppet-openstack, anyone have any ideas of where to look for a solution?
02:57 namredips oslo.config.cfg.ConfigFileParseError: Failed to parse /etc/nova/nova.conf: at /etc/nova/nova.conf:2, Section must be started before assignment: None
02:58 PEPPERONIE namredips: I'd start with getting some debug information out of your Puppetmaster
02:59 namredips PEPPERONIE: What do you mean? that is the debug information. Basically the file is getting crated with a number of "--options" before the [DEFAUL] section. Which causes a number of openstack systems to error out when they try to start
03:00 xavpaice_ maybe paste the nova.conf and the manifest you're using to create it?
03:00 ryanycoleman joined #puppet-openstack
03:02 namredips xavpaice: well I don't use a nova.conf at all... its generated, but I can paste the the controller manifest
03:03 namredips xavpaice: at least I don't think there is some template nova.conf lying around somewhere, if so there might be the problem...
03:07 namredips xavpaice: here is the resulting nova.conf   ---   http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=1biJqVn7

03:56 xavpaice nameredips: I see nothing in that manifest that would generate the lines at the top of your nova.conf (starting with --)
03:56 xavpaice but from http://docs.openstack.org/trunk/config-reference/content/list-of-compute-config-options.html I see no mention of using options like that
03:57 xavpaice it's not exactly an ini file syntax
03:58 sileht joined #puppet-openstack
03:59 xavpaice try scrubbing the dodgy options at the start of the file, and do a puppet agent --debug -t to get some further detail about what's causing them to be added

15:12 dmsimard This *could* be done in a composition layer but puppet-swift should probably take care of that ..

16:41 EmilienM dmsimard: looking
16:41 EmilienM dmsimard: oh I see
16:42 EmilienM dmsimard: when we run puppet on swift nodes, we have an order, let me find it
16:42 dmsimard I can get it to work through ordering on my composition layer
16:42 EmilienM storage 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> proxy1 -> swift storage 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> proxy2 -> proxy1
16:43 EmilienM we have the ringbuiler class on proxy1 btw
16:43 dmsimard the ordering for ringsync -> services should probably be imposed by puppet-swift since the services cannot start if the databases are not there
16:43 EmilienM dmsimard: ++
16:45 dmsimard The way I was thinking to make it work is perhaps something like "Swift::Ringsync <| |> -> Swift::Storage::Server <| |>" but I'm not sure if that would work
16:46 dmsimard The services are included by swift::storage::server
16:46 sputnik13 joined #puppet-openstack
16:47 dmsimard Ah, that might not work since rsync::server::module is in swift::storage::server. *sigh*

18:31 bodepd dmsimard: pong
18:34 dmsimard bodepd: Context is that I have this use case where I can spawn an openstack cluster and, optionally, swift. I don't want the swift endpoints to be there unless swift is instanciated.
18:35 dmsimard So, what I did, is that I use exported resources like keystone_user, keystone_endpoint.. etc, from my swift load balancer and realize them on my keystone controller.
18:35 dmsimard So far so good, until I hit this part: https://github.com/stackforge/puppet-swift/blob/master/manifests/keystone/auth.pp#L97-L100
18:37 PEPPERONIE joined #puppet-openstack
18:38 dmsimard I can hardcode an exported resource for keystone_role for SwiftOperator (since 'admin' is created elsewhere) but that's not ideal. I tried a couple ways to export an ensure_resource and failed horribly.
18:38 dmsimard Any bright ideas ?

19:46 EmilienM fvollero: i'm looking at packstack and how you support multi backend in cinder
19:46 fvollero EmilienM: and... you saw something odd ? or that need to be fixed?
19:47 EmilienM fvollero: as far i see, you don't support multi backend
19:47 EmilienM or I missed something
19:47 EmilienM you don't use the cinder::backend:: stuff
19:48 fvollero EmilienM: no, you're right, we're using the cinder::volume stuff
19:48 EmilienM ok
19:48 EmilienM i just saw that multi backend support has not been backported to stable/havana
19:48 EmilienM i'm crying
19:49 fvollero EmilienM: I think that's why we're using volume, maybe
19:49 PEPPERONIE joined #puppet-openstack
19:49 fvollero EmilienM: sigh :'(
19:49 EmilienM fvollero: is it crazy to backport it?
19:49 EmilienM i mean, it's supported in havana, right? so...
19:50 fvollero EmilienM: i should check it, but I don't think so... I think we need an expert here like mgagne :D
19:50 otherwiseguy joined #puppet-openstack
19:50 mgagne fvollero: I'm not using multi-backend (yet) with Havana
19:51 mgagne fvollero: I therefore have no experience with it and my testing/review would be of limited value
19:51 fvollero mgagne: but... you can point us to the right direction, at least ?
19:51 EmilienM the patch is here (in master): https://review.openstack.org/#/c/54591/
19:52 fvollero EmilienM: so, maybe michchap could give us a clue about ^^
19:52 EmilienM yeah
19:53 markvoelker fvollero: is the question just whether it's supported by Cinder in Havana?
19:53 EmilienM this one also : https://review.openstack.org/#/c/77202/
19:54 fvollero markvoelker: we was just thinking loudly about it :) clues ?
19:54 markvoelker fvollero: AFAIK it is supported in Havana, though I've not used it personally
19:54 markvoelker fvollero: this would certainly indicate so:  https://github.com/openstack/cinder/blob/stable/havana/etc/cinder/cinder.conf.sample#L387-L390
19:55 fvollero EmilienM: i'll ask around in rh to hear some more info from them
19:55 EmilienM and this one also: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/63954/
19:57 fvollero EmilienM: how's your review queue ?
19:58 mgagne haha, mine is awful
19:58 EmilienM fvollero: pretty small
19:58 EmilienM fvollero: i've been busy by our deployments here, but i expect to be more productive in this sprint
19:59 * markvoelker hopes to be getting in more reviews later this week as a couple of other things keeping him busy for the past couple of days wind down
19:59 fvollero mgagne: wanna dump on me some reviews ? :)
19:59 fvollero markvoelker: EmilienM : /me too... so much to fix and so little time to get it done
20:00 EmilienM so i'm going to backport. Rise your hands people who will review my patchs, I don't want to do it for nothing
20:00 fvollero i was fighting with the vcenter support in packstack
20:00 mgagne fvollero: off the top of my head, I don't have a list, only 2 pages in gerrit
20:00 fvollero o_O
20:00 fvollero mgagne: ok, i'll check it tomorrow and start helping out :)
20:00 mgagne fvollero: I have JJB too which I haven't had time to review in weeks
20:01 markvoelker EmilienM: I'll take a look, but may not get to it for a couple of days...I owe michchap several reviews first
20:01 EmilienM markvoelker: thanks
20:01 fvollero EmilienM: I have just this week to check them out
20:01 fvollero EmilienM: on 21 i'll be in US
20:02 markvoelker fvollero: not visiting the mothership in Raleigh, by any chance?
20:03 fvollero markvoelker: Nop, just NY for a week (and I may jump on Mawhah, NJ)
20:04 markvoelker fvollero: Bah.  And here I was going to suggest going for a beer if you were in my neck of the woods. =p
