14:04 mwoodson what is the recommended way to manage /etc/nova/policy.json with puppet?  does the puppet-nova module have that?
14:08 doo joined #puppet-openstack
14:17 larsks mwoodson: I don't know for certain, but I don't think that there is any management of the policy.json files right now.
14:17 mwoodson larsks: i'm going to mess with augeas -- json
14:17 mwoodson see if that would get it
14:18 mwoodson i have a feeling that file could change through releases, so i have a hard time wanting to templatize iut
14:18 mwoodson it*
14:18 larsks Makes sense.
14:19 mwoodson now i just need to learn augeas more better
14:20 dvorak mwoodson: I'm working on the same thing for the glance policy.json, let me know if you manage to make it work

15:30 mwoodson dvorak: so i have good news and bad news.  when i use augeas to manipulate that json file, it does it.  (i dont' have puppet code yet)
15:30 mwoodson the bad news it it re-formats the file into a messy no-spacing file
15:31 rharriso-afk mwoodson, really?  augeas usually does a halfway decent job at not screwing up formatting. :-(
15:31 mwoodson not on this json file it didn't
15:32 rharriso-afk mwoodson, is it still kinda readable?
15:34 mwoodson rharriso-afk: this is before

15:34 mwoodson rharriso-afk: this is after:

15:50 mdorman hi all, i’m trying to get an updated patch set in for https://review.openstack.org/#/c/93598/5 , but when i do a git review, there are merge conflicts with some stuff that’s been merged into master since my original patch.  even after i resolve the conflicts, i’m still unable to complete the git review.  could someone give me a hand with how to proceed?
16:07 hogepodge joined #puppet-openstack
16:08 xarses joined #puppet-openstack
16:17 hogepodge mdorman that’s happened to me before. I abandon the patch, try to make some minor change (whitespace), then resubmit. It’s kind of a pain then gerrit gets into an unhappy state
16:17 hogepodge s/then/that
16:19 mdorman ok, so basically just abandon this one and submit a new one based on latest master, right?
16:19 hogepodge yeah, if gerrit isn’t letting you rebase it’s the fastest way
16:20 mdorman kk, will do that then.  thanks
16:23 mfisch hogepodge: can you or someone look at my puppet-neutron change? I'd like to drop our fork
16:23 mfisch sorry I meant cinder

16:24 mfisch also I missed commit 100k by 15 minutes because I was fixing puppet lint issues :(
16:27 * mfisch is about to fix a puppet-nova issue as well
16:28 hogepodge looking, in a meeting so it will take a bit longer
16:37 mfisch hogepodge: no worries, I'm not sure what the policy is for bugging people for reviews, so thought I'd ask here
16:37 hogepodge Just ask here. It’s what everyone does

17:01 mfisch dmsimard: i'm not sure though who to send to, for example is someone specialized in puppet-horizon who should definitely review it
17:02 mfisch I dont want to send all to Chris H
17:02 dmsimard I think there's somewhere where you can see who are the core reviewers for a project
17:02 mfisch Does that concept extend to puppet stuff? I know it's true for "core" projects
17:02 dmsimard Yeah, only core reviewers can +2 a commit
17:02 dmsimard and approve it for merge
17:03 mfisch for keystone I found the core list in the wiki
17:03 mfisch there should be a better place to find it since not all projects have a wiki page

22:03 mgagne mfisch: it only compiles a catalog with resources
22:04 mfisch can I get that?

22:04 mgagne mfisch: you can test that a resource exists with ensure => absent.

22:22 dachary it looks like https://github.com/puppetlabs/beaker/wiki/Creating-A-Test-Environment#roles-what-are-they beaker requires PE
22:28 dvorak it doesn't actually
22:28 dvorak and PE is free for <10 nodes anyway, so you could still use it if you wanted to in beaker
22:28 anode beaker more supports PE than requires it

23:37 rharriso-afk dvorak, sorry which of OpenStack's many components?
23:37 dvorak glance
23:37 rharriso-afk dvorak, oh, great. my favorite...
23:38 dvorak honestly, I think I just need a good example of how to replace a given dict key in augeas
23:38 dvorak although the pretty printing issue that mwoodson ran into is probably a problem for me also

23:39 rharriso-afk dvorak, OMG, the module is using the old AND the new Puppet plugin dir structure... :-/

23:47 rharriso-afk dvorak, that's really beside the point.  What were the load commands you gave your /augeas tree?

23:52 rharrison dvorak, that looks about right.
23:52 * rharrison tries it.

23:54 dvorak so I see the same problem that mwoodson did, it doens't preserve formatting
23:54 rharrison dvorak, yeah, that's sad but I think still better than trying to template the file.
23:55 dvorak well, the file won't be easily edited, and the puppet commands for augeas will be fairly opaque to anyone coming behind me.  that's two big marks against this approach
23:57 rharrison dvorak, actually as long as you comment the augeas commands properly it'll actually be pretty solid.
23:58 rharrison dvorak, the first thing you have to do with the augeas time since you're working on numbered entries is only work on entries that match.  for example 'get /files/etc/glance/policy.json/dict/entry[ . = "default" ]'
23:58 dvorak that's the part I was missing
23:58 rharrison gives you the content of that entry.  you can also do 'set /files/etc/glance/policy.json/dict/entry[ . = "default" ] value'
23:59 rharrison which will add the entry if it doesn't exist or simply update the entry if it does.
