10:04 EmilienM dachary: I think your answer on Trello is a bit "extreme" here
10:05 EmilienM even if Trello is not open-source, the open API can let us a great flexibility
10:06 EmilienM a lot of Open-Source projects are using it, OpenStack included
10:06 EmilienM some projects I mean
10:07 dachary EmilienM: I'm refering to how difficult it is to break free from a service that does not run on Free Sofware. I'm sure you had experiences like that in the past and they were not pleasant ones. If given the choice, I think it's worth being a little inconvenienced and free from proprietary software.
10:09 EmilienM dachary: I personally did not have any problem in the past iirc. I'm not exigent on that. If the tool works and is API open, I don't mind using it.
10:09 EmilienM and I don't think it's worth being inconvenienced.
10:10 dachary EmilienM: ah, then that's why you don't know how painful it is. I'm giving you an advice based on my personal experience.
10:10 EmilienM I won't argue for free software things, you have more experience than me on the topic.
10:10 EmilienM I just think we need a tool
10:11 EmilienM and we don't have time to setup our own service
10:11 dachary EmilienM: I understand your point of view. I guess you need to experience pain first hand and learn from it.
10:12 EmilienM dachary: can you explain why a lot of Open-Source projects are using it ? (i.e. some OpenStack projects, all OpenShift, etc)
10:12 EmilienM do they have pain?
10:13 EmilienM example with OpenShift Origin: https://trello.com/b/qjfQ62lZ/openshift-origin-runtime
10:14 dachary EmilienM: I'm encouraging you, as a friend, to remain free of propriteary chains. I honestly don't know why people / projects chose otherwise. As if it was a life or death decision. As if we did not have time to remain free. That eludes me completely ;-)
10:15 michchap I'm inclined to agree with EmilienM - I know exactly what you're talking about dachary, but I feel there's a couple of points here. The first is that I don't know of an open source equivalent of high quality, and the second is that the people who made it also made stack-overflow, and have been good stewards. If the TOS for Trello were to change suddenly for the worse, I don't believe we as a project wo
10:15 michchap uld be affected in any large way, since we can stop using it. so the risk of using it is low.
10:16 michchap The only loss would potentially be that we have to track tasks using some other method, as we have been doing for the past few years. That's not the most efficient method, but it will (and does) serve fine if needbe.
10:17 dachary michchap: this is a good and sound analysis of the service.
10:18 dachary EmilienM: you did not expect me to agree to the use of a proprietary service, did you ? ;-)
10:18 dachary I'm a Free Software vegetarian ! :-D
10:18 EmilienM dachary: I expected to you to have a suggestion here, will all your experience you're mentioning :-)

10:27 dachary this is one of the experiences I'm referring to : http://www.advogato.org/article/376.html See where sf.net is now and imagine how many years of work were wasted migrating out of it.
10:32 michchap dachary: That looks rough :(
10:33 dachary michchap: I guess bitkeeper is another horror story, although I did not experience it myself.
10:33 michchap dachary: that's a good example.
10:35 michchap dachary: I think it's mostly a case of risk, for me. I wouldn't store either my code or my docs somewhere I didn't have complete trust, but the rest of the pieces I can replace if I need to.
10:36 dachary michchap: yes,  you have to find the balance that's right for you

11:50 dachary sbadia: +1 :-)
11:53 EmilienM dachary: if I knew storyboard before, I would have suggest that one, FYI
11:53 EmilienM it's exactly our use-case
11:54 EmilienM though I'm afraid few people using it. We could be a good example
11:54 dachary yes

17:53 spyglass Hi everyone, are there known issues with the puppetlabs/openstack and librarian-puppet?  Having problems running librarian-puppet install - "Module puppetlabs/ntp@3.1.0 contains duplicated dependencies for puppetlabs-stdlib, ignoring all but the first of puppetlabs-stdlib>= 4.0.0puppetlabs-stdlib>= 4.0.0"
17:59 crinkle spyglass: I've never tried to use it with librarian-puppet. I know that the Puppetfile was written to be used by r10k so I'm not sure if there might be something that makes it incompatible with librarian
18:08 spyglass crinkle: ok thanks, I'm just adding "mod 'puppetlabs/puppetlabs-openstack', '5.0.0'" into my Puppetfile but it seems to have problems with dependencies.  Unfortunately, I have to use librarian-puppet so im not sure how to proceed
18:10 crinkle it might be that the puppetlabs-openstack module has a bunch of dependencies which conflict with what's already in your puppetfile
18:11 crinkle i'm not that familiar with librarian-puppet though

20:27 xavpaice is there a storyboard of the missing parts in storyboard?
20:44 EmilienM lol
20:44 EmilienM xavpaice: they use it for their own dev so yes
20:48 mdorman xavpaice:   apologies for the OSS purist comment.  not trying to troll, but more to your point about finding the best solution vs. making the decision solely on a philosophical basis :)
20:52 EmilienM mdorman: +1
21:25 xavpaice healthy discussion is a good thing, it does help us get to a good solution
21:26 xavpaice I was wondering if there's an opportunity to get involved in storyboard, we're also wanting to get something better than the Redmine mess we use internally here
21:28 mdorman yup
21:29 nibalizer xavpaice: #openstack-infra is another place storyborad is discussed
21:29 nibalizer there may be an #openstack-storyboard as well
21:29 nibalizer idunno
21:29 nibalizer i think the developers would be jazzed if you started using storyboard(and finding the bugs) internally
21:30 xavpaice I'll dig around
21:30 xavpaice thanks!
21:46 EmilienM|afk xavpaice: we left redmine too for trello
21:46 EmilienM|afk nibalizer: no, #storyboard is the channel
21:46 nibalizer ah
21:46 nibalizer ya redmine was really good a few years ago, showing its age now :(
21:47 EmilienM|afk nibalizer: to do SCRUM it's a pain
21:48 nibalizer i've never actually scrum'd
21:48 nibalizer so i dont know
21:50 xavpaice we've had to extend redmine quite a bit with extra modules to have a go at scrum, but it's quite limited simply because we're using the tool in a way it wasn't designed to be used
21:51 xavpaice but our company only uses open source tools as a matter of philosophy, so trello is out for us
21:55 nibalizer xavpaice: oh no
21:55 nibalizer custom redmine plugins is the road to madness
22:01 EmilienM lol
22:05 xavpaice +1
22:08 crinkle anyone want to review https://review.openstack.org/#/c/136186/ ? :)
