16:54 richm crinkle: ping - the work to have Puppet::Provider::Openstack - is that intended to replace all of the command line and authentication code in all of the puppet providers?  e.g. replace get_glance_credentials and auth_glance in glance.rb?
16:55 richm if so, how/when is it planned to put openstack.rb into puppet-openstacklib?
16:55 Mr_D joined #puppet-openstack
16:56 crinkle richm: yes that's the plan, but I was waiting for the v3 work to be finished since I'm not sure how that's going to affect it
16:56 crinkle richm: definitely before the kilo release
17:01 richm crinkle: one of the use cases I'm working towards is to put the service accounts in their own separate domain
17:01 richm crinkle: which means the services (glance, etc.) would need to perform auth with a domain, which means v3 auth
17:02 richm which means e.g. get_glance_credentials and auth_glance cannot be used
17:03 richm what more v3 work needs to be done before getting started on this?
17:03 crinkle uh well you said your patch wasn't ready
17:03 crinkle that is what i'm waiting for
17:05 richm ok
17:06 richm I think it has enough functionality now to begin - that is, it doesn't have everything in the bp like support for groups and trusts - but existing code doesn't use those anyway, and those aren't needed for basic v3 support
17:07 richm I'm at the point now where I need to be able to v3 enable all of the other features in order to proceed
17:08 richm e.g. I can't put the glance user in the services domain until I make glance and puppet-glance be able to use v3 auth
17:08 crinkle well we can't put stuff in openstacklib until the next major release
17:09 richm so for now I will need to copy openstack.rb to all of the providers for all of the other projects
17:10 crinkle we can't really do that, we can't have multiple lib/puppet/provider/openstack.rb from multiple modules
17:10 crinkle they'd overwrite each other
17:10 crinkle at this point i don't see why not just develop for kilo
17:11 crinkle sticking stuff in the individual modules is adding a lot of technical debt
17:13 openstackgerrit Merged stackforge/puppet-monasca: Make auth method for api server dynamic, default to 'token'  https://review.openstack.org/159531
17:13 richm crinkle: well, Red Hat really wants to be able to do this in Juno
17:13 openstackgerrit Ryan Bak proposed stackforge/puppet-monasca: Ensure directories for agent virtualenv exist  https://review.openstack.org/159547
17:13 richm for several of our Red Hat customers
17:13 openstackgerrit Lukas Bezdicka proposed stackforge/puppet-neutron: Fix --router:external: ignored explicit argument u'True' Error  https://review.openstack.org/159548
17:14 crinkle but kilo is going to release in like three months, and it's taken us this long to get this far, it will be out by the time we're ready with this
17:16 crinkle plus the neutron support for openstackclient is no where near ready, so if that's one of the services you want to add domain support for we just can't yet
17:18 richm crinkle: ok - so 1) wait for kilo or 2) Red Hat carries a bunch of patches
17:28 andriikolesnikov joined #puppet-openstack
17:31 crinkle richm: what modules need to be updated? off the top of my head i think glance, neutron, and maybe nova
17:35 maximov joined #puppet-openstack
17:35 crinkle my concerns are that we can't add things to modules that depend on new features in other modules because that breaks backwards compatibility, so having glance depend on keystone v3, even if we stick openstack.rb in it, is not acceptable. if we manage to make the glance changes completely backwards compatible with keystone v2, adding duplicated code adds technical debt, and the amount of time it's
17:35 crinkle valuable is pretty short, so the trouble to do it isn't worth it for either us or red hat
17:36 crinkle red hat carrying patches is not an ideal situation for either party either
17:38 richm I definitely don't want to have a bunch of patches I have to maintain/rebase :P
17:39 crinkle :)
17:40 richm I'm just trying to figure out what our (Red Hat's) options are (for better or worse).

23:05 EmilienM so let's track in https://etherpad.openstack.org/p/puppet-keystone-v3-api-support what need to be done

23:19 EmilienM richm: which version of python-openstacklib we need?
23:21 EmilienM richm: you're doing design in the etherpad \o/
23:22 EmilienM my first goal was to track high level things we need to implement, and then split in blueprints
23:22 richm EmilienM: yeah - I'm just trying to give some sort of background
23:22 EmilienM no problem

23:32 richm EmilienM: do we need separate cards for each component e.g. a card for the puppet-cinder work, one for the puppet-glance work, puppet-nova, etc.?
23:32 EmilienM richm: yes, as I mentioned in the card, I think for the last point we would need to split

23:35 EmilienM nibalizer: re- beaker: what's the status today? what is blocking me to contribute on other modules (ie neutron) ?
23:36 nibalizer i dont think there is any reason it can't go into other modules
23:36 nibalizer https://review.openstack.org/#/c/155186/ is nova
23:36 sbadia Can I help on this ?
23:37 nibalizer this is what happens if you try to use a newer version of beaker http://logs.openstack.org/73/155873/5/check/gate-puppet-keystone-puppet-beaker-rspec/693c406/console.html.gz
23:37 EmilienM sbadia: you never sleep
23:37 nibalizer but i hear this is why? https://github.com/puppetlabs/beaker/pull/712
23:37 nibalizer idunno if i buy that though because we're not on el
23:37 nibalizer we're on trustdy
23:37 nibalizer so !shrug
23:37 nibalizer the older version probably works
23:38 nibalizer there is some conversations to have I think, about how to run on centos, how to get latest packages
23:38 nibalizer if there should be a 'gate' queue that is co-testing with other modules
23:38 nibalizer if a simple 'devstack like' composition module could be used
23:38 nibalizer then if that could be integrated into testing, if tempest could be pointed at it
23:39 EmilienM nibalizer: ok - thx for the update
23:41 EmilienM nibalizer: I would prefer composing something simple, using directly our modules with hiera
23:41 nibalizer EmilienM: i agree
23:42 nibalizer i also think the logical place for that (and much of what is in spec_helper_acceptance) should probably go in a repo on stackforge
23:42 nibalizer but probably we can get along for a while without that, so that we better know what goes in that repo
23:42 EmilienM oh
23:42 EmilienM why not
