15:28 Hunner dfisher: pong?
15:28 dfisher hey there.
15:29 dfisher was attempting to run the puppetlabs-stdlib tests on Solaris last night.
15:29 dfisher and one of the required files isn't in the tarball
15:29 dfisher spec/fixtures/dscacheutil/root
15:35 dfisher simply wanted to bring that to your attention
15:36 Hunner Hrm. That doesn't sound familiar
15:36 Hunner Do you know what requires it?
15:36 dfisher uh.  just about every single test?
15:36 dfisher without it I get almost all failures
15:36 dfisher $ tar tvf puppetlabs-stdlib-4.6.0.tar.gz | grep root
15:36 dfisher -rwxr-xr-x hunner/staff   1639 2015-04-15 14:11 puppetlabs-stdlib-4.6.0/spec/unit/facter/root_home_spec.rb
15:36 dfisher -rw-r--r-- hunner/staff    875 2015-04-15 14:11 puppetlabs-stdlib-4.6.0/lib/facter/root_home.rb
15:39 dfisher running the tests now right from a fresh tarball
15:39 dfisher sorry, not every test fails.  the whole thing fails from the get-go
15:40 clayton dfisher fixtures should get downloaded automatically
15:40 dfisher http://paste.openstack.org/show/242481/
15:43 Hunner Hmm. I've never tried running unit tests from the tarballs. It is most likely due to packaging then, since our jenkins has to be green for releases
15:44 dfisher erm, aren't the tarballs the releases? :)
15:45 Hunner Good point. Unfortunately we tag hashes with green tests, then package from a tag. It's a todo to automate the package -> test -> upload part
15:46 dfisher ok.  well.   there you go.  simple bug :)
15:46 clayton dfisher: I think most people are probably cloning from github or installing with puppet module install or whatever
15:46 dfisher sure.
15:46 dfisher as an Oracle peon, i can't do that :(
15:46 clayton I'd guess that nearly 100% of the people trying to run the tests are cloning from github
15:47 dfisher N-1!
15:47 Hunner dfisher: Thanks for the feedback. I'll poke our QE guy and see if he has time to spend on this
15:47 Hunner clayton: It really would be nice to have the tarballs being published what is actually being tested :/
15:47 dfisher I'm just a) providing feedback, b) trying to run the tests to be a good monkey for my c) upcoming pull request to add Solaris to stdlib
15:47 Hunner I mean, that's good packaging hygene
15:47 dfisher +1
15:47 clayton Hunner: sure, but I doubt many people would notice if they didn't :)
15:48 Hunner clayton: Unless there was a packaging issue. I've totally packaged my vim swapfiles in mysql before :P
15:48 clayton heh
15:48 dfisher haha.
15:49 Hunner But that /was/ a long time ago...
15:49 dfisher echo ".swp" >> .gitignore
15:49 Hunner But yeah, I'll raise it
15:49 dfisher thanks!

16:16 degorenko EmilienM|off, hi, can you merge this patch? https://review.openstack.org/#/c/176924/ :-) thanks
16:17 dfisher i think he's out this week.  I haven't seen him all week
16:17 RichardRaseley Yeah, he is traveling.
16:18 RichardRaseley For the two weeks after the summit, AFAIK.

17:37 openstackgerrit Richard Raseley proposed stackforge/puppet-swift: Improve Endpoint Configurability  https://review.openstack.org/186205
17:42 RichardRaseley I had a -2 on https://review.openstack.org/#/c/186109/6 . I think I addressed the issue. Do I need to get that particular reviewer to remove their -2, or can any other core supersede that?
17:43 gsilvis joined #puppet-openstack
17:44 mgagne RichardRaseley: I'm on IRC
17:45 RichardRaseley mgagne: Assuming this is Mathieu?
17:45 mgagne yes
17:46 _ody RichardRaseley: The use of your Hipchat style name is a little off for IRC.
17:47 RichardRaseley mgagne: I think I've addressed the concerns which lead to your -2. Would you be willing to review the changes I made?
17:47 mgagne RichardRaseley: I however feel you were dishonest by still stating it wasn't a big deal (which it was), not apologizing and having a "strange humor" about it.
17:47 mgagne RichardRaseley: "I was just getting the job's done" isn't a good reason.
17:47 RichardRaseley Well, that is a matter of personal opinion, which is not particularly relevant to the code.
17:48 mgagne RichardRaseley: it's not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of rights as an author of the code
17:48 mgagne RichardRaseley: and by still being dismissive about the situation, you are just making it worst
17:50 openstackgerrit Clayton O'Neill proposed stackforge/puppet-nova: Allow configuring libvirt package ensures  https://review.openstack.org/186511
17:53 gsilvis joined #puppet-openstack
17:54 RichardRaseley mgagne: It is a matter of your reading of the CLA, therefore inherently subjective, therefore an opinion.
17:54 dmsimard The endpoint/service thing is long overdue for a rework - now that openstacklib exists, should it live there, though ?
17:55 mgagne RichardRaseley: even without the CLA, do you agree that as the author, I deserve recognition for the work I've done?
17:55 mgagne dmsimard: it's already there, it's about cleaning up the manifest parameters in the modules
17:56 RichardRaseley mgagne: Not inherently or without qualification.
17:58 RichardRaseley mgagne: It depends on the scope and scale of the work, within the context of the modifications, combined with how novel the solution is, etc., etc. It certainly isn't a given.
17:58 cdelatte joined #puppet-openstack
18:02 rcallawa joined #puppet-openstack
18:02 RichardRaseley mgagne: To be clear, this is not something we're going to 'resolve' here today. I've removed the code in question, implemented my own solution, and am just asking you to please revisit your -2 within the context of the code as it exists in the most recent patch set.
18:02 mgagne RichardRaseley: I'm currently seeking advice from someone else about it
18:02 mordred joined #puppet-openstack
18:02 mgagne RichardRaseley: this is clearly something I want to get solved
18:03 mgagne RichardRaseley: the document I got referred to is https://www.openstack.org/legal/community-code-of-conduct/
18:05 openstackgerrit Merged stackforge/puppet-swift: Handle both string and array for memcache param.  https://review.openstack.org/177975
18:05 openstackgerrit Merged stackforge/puppet-nova: Fix variable access in RBD secret template  https://review.openstack.org/185688
18:06 openstackgerrit Merged stackforge/puppet-neutron: Fixed deprecation warning message  https://review.openstack.org/185656
18:08 RichardRaseley mgagne: OK, I obviously haven't made myself clear enough. I am not interested in having a discussion about a particular reading of the CLA or the Community Code of Conduct as it relates to previous patch sets. At this time, I am only interested in getting a review of the proposed change *as it exists currently*. If you don't want to review it, that's fine as well.
18:15 Hunner _ody: o/
18:15 RichardRaseley crinkle: Completely unnecessary use of a -2 IMO, the code in question has been removed therefore there is no conflict.
18:16 mordred RichardRaseley: I think you are missing the point in that the social structures in openstack are rather important in keeping this many people able to function together.
18:19 crinkle RichardRaseley: your dismissive attitude toward the complaint and unwillingness to work with mgagne on it is the issue here, it's not a technical issue
18:20 clayton crinkle: +1
18:21 RichardRaseley I did address mgagne's concerns and removed the code.
18:25 jerryz joined #puppet-openstack
18:27 crinkle RichardRaseley: you're still treating it as a technical problem. You haven't admitted wrongdoing, you haven't attributed mgagne for the idea, and you're still trying to sidestep the issue instead of being respectful and working through it
18:31 crinkle RichardRaseley: it would have been really easy to add a Co-Authored-By tag to your commit message in an earlier patchset, but instead you attempted to avoid the social issue by changing the code. You handled it very disrespectfully.
18:32 RichardRaseley crinkle: I don't feel an admission of wrongdoing is warranted. No attribution is appropriate for the code in its current form. The 'sidestep' was intentional, because I am not interested in working through personal differences regarding what contributes a 'contribution' an 'original contribution'
18:33 RichardRaseley or any of the other things in the CLA which would be relevant. I appreciate your opinions, but I disagree that it was handled 'very disrespectfully'.
18:34 crinkle RichardRaseley: if you are unwilling to work through personal differences then you will have a hard time as a contributor
18:34 ducttape_ joined #puppet-openstack
18:36 mfisch Reading the comments on the commit I think that this escalated from a misunderstanding on the correct way to grant attribution and whether/why it was important. Could we take a step back from the emotions and get past that? Perhaps even discuss later when people are not upset?
18:36 clayton I think it was fair for mgagne to ask for a Co-Authored-By: or something similar, and you seem to not want to acknowledge that.  I get the feeling you disagree that it was reasonable for him to ask for that.  Is that true?
18:36 RichardRaseley crinkle: I definitely appreciate your input, but it is clear that we disagree on the substance of the issue.
18:36 Hunner mfisch++
18:38 crinkle mfisch: I agree that we don't seem to be coming to a resolution and taking a step back for a bit would be good
18:40 tfz joined #puppet-openstack
18:44 RichardRaseley mfisch: I am not upset in the least. I am was just hoping to have the code reviewed based upon its current ('offending' code removed) merits. It isn't clear what 'taking a step back' means from a practical perspective in this context.
18:58 crinkle RichardRaseley: we cannot review the code separate from the context around it, the context being that you violated the code of conduct, specifically the "be respectful" part, and seem to have no interest in repairing the damage caused from that
19:00 ducttape_ joined #puppet-openstack
19:04 RichardRaseley crinkle: I disagree with your assertion of an alleged violation. I feel like you're conflating disagreement and disrespect.
19:08 mordred RichardRaseley: I believe you may be misunderstanding where the disrepect came. it's not that you disagreed on the attributability of the code. that's a valid discussion. you did not have that discussion. instead, you made a mocking response. that is disrespectful
19:14 RichardRaseley mordred: Mocking implies derision, my remarks in no way had derisive intent. It appears that my mistake in this instance is substituting what I viewed as an attempt at humor, and assuming it would be interpreted in a specific way without actually knowing Mathieu's personality or sense of humor. I am prepared to apologize without reservation for those assumptions on my part.
19:21 RichardRaseley mgagne: With that context in mind, I apologize if my initial remark was perceived as contemptuous or dismissive of your concerns in any way - that was not my intent.
19:22 RichardRaseley Through subsequent discussions it is clear that there may be disagreements about the nature of contributions or attributability, but that is a separate issue.
19:22 RichardRaseley Although I do prefer the subsequent approach that I took (removing the inline template), I would be more than happy to put whatever you deem to be the appropriate attribution in place as a token of good-faith in moving past this issue.
19:27 _ody sbadia: How did you handle empty string vs. false assumption in Puppet 3 vs. Puppet 4?
19:32 Hunner if $var and $var != "" ?
19:32 Hunner That should work in both
19:35 _ody Hunner: Yeah that worked on a single variable if statement.  Not seemingly getting the logic down for a compound statement that includes OR.
19:50 Hunner _ody: Just translate the statements? So a conditional of `$var` in 3 would be `($var and $var != "")` in puppet 4
20:05 mgagne RichardRaseley: I'm not satisfied with your apology. It entirely ignores (again) the original situation and manage to reduce it to "sorry for my bad taste humor". The fact that you ignored my concerns (to which I proposed a clear resolution), silently change the implementation (without any comment or sign of an apology for the origin behavior), further ignored the problem by being dismissive when I raised concerns and that we had to involve a
20:06 crinkle mgagne: you cut off at "that we had to involve a"
20:06 mgagne involve a 3rd party and that you still consider it "an opinion" is a sign a great disrespect of our community code of conduct.
20:09 RichardRaseley mgagne: Well it is unfortunate that you are not satisfied.
