14:45 alee degorenko, which parameters are you talking about here? https://review.openstack.org/#/c/296159/2/spec/classes/barbican_api_spec.rb
14:46 degorenko alee, good day :)
14:46 alee degorenko, just going through your comments .. hopefully we can get all these ironed out today ..
14:46 degorenko alee, for passed for example rabbit_host
14:47 degorenko or whatever else
14:47 degorenko you have a bunch of parameters, which can be passed to puppet manifest
14:47 degorenko now your test cover only default values
14:48 alee degorenko, yeah ok
14:49 alee degorenko, in https://review.openstack.org/#/c/296162/2/manifests/api.pp , I'll go ahead and implement the new parameters
14:50 openstackgerrit Dmitry Burmistrov proposed openstack/puppet-oslo: Rework oslo-cache class  https://review.openstack.org/298273
14:50 alee degorenko, to do so though - I need to know how to implement multicfg options ..
14:50 openstackgerrit Merged openstack/puppet-openstacklib: acceptance: do not enable EPEL  https://review.openstack.org/297978
14:50 alee degorenko, do you happen to have a link or example of how I can do that?  I know they were recently added ..
14:51 alee EmilienM, ^^
14:51 degorenko alee, it's bad practice when you're trying to implement some feature that's not implemented in code yet
14:51 degorenko alee, these parameters already added?
14:51 alee degorenko, sure  -- the plan was to add a patch right after this set of patches
14:52 alee degorenko, these parameters are already in the underlying barbican patches
14:52 alee I mean barbican package
14:52 alee I just did not - at the time - have the ability to enable them in the pupet modules
14:52 alee becvause they are oslo multicfg options
14:53 alee ie.  I can define the same option multiple times in the config file
14:53 degorenko alee, can you please provide me example? like, part of config file with these parameters, i didn't get it now , sorry
14:54 alee so for intance ..
14:54 alee if I have the parameter .. enabled_plugins = ['foo', 'bar']
14:54 alee this will actually show up in the config file as ..
14:55 alee enabled_plugin = foo
14:55 degorenko alee no :)
14:55 alee enabled_plugin = bar
14:55 degorenko if you need to have enabled_plugin=foo,bar
14:55 degorenko it is can be easily done by having array for parameter enabled_plugin - as in your example
14:55 alee ie. the same directive shows up twice .. with different values
14:55 degorenko and
14:56 degorenko enabled_plugin = join($enabled_plugin, ',')
14:56 degorenko it will be written to config as enabled_plugin=foo,bar
14:56 alee yeah - thats not how it needs to show up
14:56 degorenko ah
14:57 degorenko i see
14:57 degorenko you need 2 different options
14:57 degorenko on by one right?
14:57 degorenko one*
14:58 alee right - it shows up as
14:58 degorenko i got it now
14:58 degorenko well, it will be a little bit tricky then
14:58 alee so for instance -- option = foo, bar  will be  two lines : option = foo  and option == bar
14:58 degorenko yep
14:59 alee its something called an oslo Multicfg I think -- looking for link
14:59 alee degorenko, EmilienM mentioned that it was being implemented in puppet ..
14:59 degorenko so, for barbican_config provider the problem is that it can manage only one property for each section, we can't do this like you want through standard config provider
14:59 degorenko hm
14:59 degorenko really?
14:59 degorenko let me check
15:01 alee degorenko, anyways thats the reason the options are not implemented in puppet yet -- they are in the barbican package, but I did not know how to implement in puppet.
15:02 openstackgerrit Kyrylo Galanov proposed openstack/puppet-swift: Add rmq credentials to each host in proxy  https://review.openstack.org/297618
15:02 alee degorenko, http://docs.openstack.org/developer/oslo.config/opts.html?highlight=multi#oslo_config.cfg.MultiOpt
15:02 degorenko alee, i don't see any patches for implementing multiple same parameters in config files
15:03 darkxploit joined #puppet-openstack
15:04 degorenko alee, no, i'm wrong, we have some patch with mentioned by you doc
15:04 degorenko https://github.com/openstack/puppet-openstacklib/commit/029c6a74cce2dceff5ae78c138a050d9eb7a6f9b
15:04 alee degorenko, ah good
15:04 degorenko alee, but, i don't know how it works, i didn't see that before
15:06 alee degorenko, cool - I'll try to tease out the needed syntax from the spec tests ..
15:07 degorenko alee, i don't see unit tests for this.... :(
15:07 degorenko oh, now
15:07 degorenko https://github.com/openstack/puppet-openstacklib/blob/master/spec/unit/puppet/util/openstackconfig_spec.rb
15:07 degorenko looks like we need that ^
15:07 alee degorenko, right
15:09 degorenko alee, go ahead then :)
15:09 alee degorenko, yup - fun fun!  I'm going to try to get that in today.
15:10 alee (assuming I dont get pulled off on something else)

15:50 EmilienM degorenko: do you know if service notify would restart a service if the resource is set to ensure => stopped?
15:50 EmilienM we might have found a bug but I'm not sure
15:50 degorenko well, we have a new state, i think yes
15:51 degorenko so, you have one service which was stopped and it notified another service?
15:51 EmilienM degorenko: https://bugs.launchpad.net/puppet-neutron/+bug/1562922
15:51 openstack Launchpad bug 1562922 in puppet-neutron "neutron-server service get notify even when we don't manage service" [Undecided,New]
15:52 * degorenko looking
15:53 degorenko hmm
15:55 degorenko i'm not sure too
15:55 degorenko but it should not
15:57 EmilienM degorenko: it should not restart?
15:57 EmilienM because it does for sure
15:57 EmilienM we have the bug in tripleo, when upgrading, jayg can confirm
15:58 jayg yes, the tripleo folks are definitely see this behavior even with manager_service and enabled set to false
15:59 skolekonov systemd doesn't start services automatically. right?
15:59 EmilienM no, but I think the ~> runs a restart
16:00 degorenko ~> also means hard dependency
16:00 degorenko so in one catalog we will have config changes at all
16:00 degorenko and only then we will manage service
16:00 EmilienM I haven't read puppet core code yet but we might need to check
16:01 skolekonov I'll check
16:01 skolekonov managed should be set to true also as I remember
16:01 skolekonov and enabled => false
16:02 EmilienM right, the systemd service should be disabled
16:04 cwolferh joined #puppet-openstack
16:07 skolekonov I checked on Ubuntu. The service (neutron-server) was disabled before Puppet run, then I applied a manifest and it was not restarted. My example http://paste.openstack.org/show/492099/
16:08 EmilienM skolekonov: right
16:09 EmilienM skolekonov: can you run puppet again to make sure it's idempotent?
16:09 jayg yes, but the service _is_ running in this case, just not managed by puppet
16:09 EmilienM jayg: the service is managed by pacemaker
16:09 jayg yes, that is what I am meaning
16:10 EmilienM jayg: but in your case, the service should be systemd-disabled
16:10 jayg so it probably gets the status correctly as running and tries to restart
16:10 jayg you don't think it would report it as running?  I seem to remember it doing so
16:10 jayg even though pacemaker is the one controlling it
16:11 jayg maybe I am remembering wrong, it was a while ago for me
16:12 skolekonov EmilienM, as it's an exec it's executed every time, but service is stopped
16:13 EmilienM skolekonov: right. I wonder if pacemaker enables it in systemd
16:13 skolekonov You mean it can be connected with pacemaker provider?
16:14 EmilienM skolekonov: we don't have pacemaker provider
16:14 EmilienM that manage the service
16:14 EmilienM we're working on it
16:14 openstackgerrit Merged openstack/puppet-keystone: Fix for pki_setup  https://review.openstack.org/298183
16:15 EmilienM jayg: I'm looking at this code now https://github.com/openstack/puppet-pacemaker/blob/master/manifests/resource/service.pp
16:16 * jayg looks
16:16 EmilienM it actually create a systemd resource in pacemaker with https://github.com/openstack/puppet-pacemaker/blob/master/manifests/resource/systemd.pp
16:17 EmilienM so my guess is that it re-creates what puppet disabled
16:17 EmilienM I'm not familiar enough with pacemaker though
16:17 jayg yes, as I recall, pacemaker uses the systemd unit files, but it supposed to pass in some kind of extra flag to tell systemd to not manage it
16:18 jayg this is part of the resource-agents magic iirc
16:18 EmilienM jayg: where is code of that?
16:18 jayg let me see if I have a checkout, I am not sure if I ever got the code other than via rpm when we were doing foreman installs
16:20 jayg EmilienM: https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-agents looks like it, though I am not seeing a systemd one right off, looking more now..
16:22 EmilienM jayg: looks like https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-agents/blob/01352b5a28c3da04436fd19d886dacdce0a8c1a8/ldirectord/systemd/ldirectord.service.in
16:22 EmilienM or not
16:22 EmilienM anyway, it does not sounds like something in puppet-neutron

16:58 xarses dmsimard, please review https://review.openstack.org/#/c/297393/
16:58 dmsimard xarses: EmilienM told me about it last week
16:59 dmsimard xarses: I've actually only ever installed Ceph on top of Ubuntu
16:59 dmsimard I don't know why EPEL would be necessary at all or why it would be installed by default
16:59 dmsimard dgurtner or loic might know
16:59 xarses it used to be necessary, as all of the deps where not present
17:00 dmsimard the patch itself is fine and backwards compatible, I'm just questioning whether the entire block should not be removed
17:00 xarses alot has changed since RH acquired Inktank
17:00 dmsimard xarses: the dependencies might not have been self contained in the ceph repo, you mean ?
17:01 xarses correct, they where not in either mainline or ceph repo
17:01 dmsimard xarses: eh, I can submit a dummy patch to see what happens if I tear that out

17:48 bkero wat
17:49 dmsimard I'm asking about it to the Ceph guys
17:54 xarses EmilienM: if it's still broken, why do you want to remove the repo then?
17:54 EmilienM xarses: I want to be allowed to remove the repo
17:54 EmilienM which is why our modules are flexible
17:54 EmilienM the fact it does not work without EPEL is a separated issue
17:54 xarses that's what I figured
17:54 EmilienM my patch is backward compatible, since it enables it by default like before.
17:57 xarses yep, I'm still fine with it thanks

18:30 * dmsimard is tired from all the digging
18:30 dmsimard This is indeed an issue only with the official upstream repositories (which is kind of sad, actually)
18:31 dmsimard CentOS is working towards providing repositories for Ceph through it's storage SIG initiative (https://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Storage/) and this repository has the leveldb package baked in (ex: http://cbs.centos.org/repos/storage7-ceph-hammer-candidate/x86_64/os/Packages/)

19:23 jtsigma can someone explain to me where in the puppet-ceilometer code (as an example), does it call in the mysql manifest?:  https://github.com/openstack/puppet-ceilometer/blob/master/manifests/db/mysql.pp
19:23 jtsigma i tried reading through the code, and don't see where that particular manifest gets executed
19:24 EmilienM jtsigma: it is not, you have to declare it in your composition layer
19:24 jtsigma oooh,  ok that makes sense
19:24 jtsigma thanks EmilienM

20:39 EmilienM where do you see it's long?
20:41 _ody EmilienM: I am just surprised my last change to puppet-cinder has been running tests for over 40 minutes.
20:41 EmilienM _ody: https://review.openstack.org/#/c/298397/ ?
20:41 EmilienM it's almost finished: https://jenkins07.openstack.org/job/gate-puppet-openstack-integration-3-scenario002-tempest-devstack-centos7/42/console

23:05 EmilienM crinkle: do you know of Gemfile groups are ignored on the dependencies? example: if the group is in puppet-openstack_spec_helper/Gemfile, does puppet-nova will install the right deps?
23:05 EmilienM last week you mentionned we still could use a gemfile but I tested it and it does not work, maybe I did wrong
23:05 crinkle EmilienM: i don't know :/
23:06 * crinkle will poke it
23:06 EmilienM ok np

23:11 colonwq EmilienM, When you get a chance, can you look at 296002 and 289027? I think I have polished this mud balls. They deploy correctly in my local environment.
23:11 crinkle EmilienM: you're right, adding it to the gemfile totally doesn't work
23:11 crinkle EmilienM: but adding it to the gemspec does
23:12 crinkle EmilienM: so i'm not sure how to get groups to work in that case
23:12 EmilienM there are groups in gemspec, but not all
23:12 EmilienM http://guides.rubygems.org/specification-reference/#add_development_dependency
23:13 EmilienM development and runtime deps only
23:13 crinkle right...that's not really what we want
23:13 EmilienM otherwise, we stop creating groups :(

23:16 EmilienM crinkle: what is your opinion on whether or not using gem groups?
23:17 colonwq EmilienM, dprince thinks I have my depends-on backwards with the two patches.
23:17 crinkle EmilienM: so the reasons for having groups were 1) beaker stopped supporting ruby 1.8.7 and separating the groups allowed us to still run unit tests on 1.8.7 (i think this affected the puppetlabs modules more than us) and 2) faster installs since not all the jobs needed all the gems
23:17 ducttape_ joined #puppet-openstack
23:18 crinkle EmilienM: I think 1) isn't an issue any more and we can live with 2)
23:18 crinkle er, we can live with slower installs
23:18 EmilienM I agree
23:25 colonwq EmilienM, I reversed the Depends-On direction of the patches.
23:25 EmilienM colonwq: ok I'll look thx
