15:05 shortcircuit Working on some PHP code at work today.
15:06 shortcircuit I find myself wishing I could treat the function I'm in as an object, and iterate through the passed arguments.
15:07 Hypftier shortcircuit: http://de.php.net/manual/en/function.func-get-args.php?
15:07 fedaykin "PHP: func_get_args - Manual" http://rldn.net/IBng
15:08 shortcircuit Nice; that solves my problem.
15:08 Hypftier Given that PHP has a few thousand built-in functions there is probably at least one for every problem ;)

16:32 shortcircuit http://rosettacode.org/mw/index.php?title=Rosetta_Code%3AVillage_Pump%2FIncome&action=historysubmit&diff=102626&oldid=102621
16:32 fedaykin "Rosetta Code:Village Pump/Income - Rosetta Code" http://rldn.net/9gd
16:32 shortcircuit Makes sense to me. Thoughts?
16:33 shortcircuit I like it partially for the income, but also very much for the paywall antispam mechanism.
16:34 shortcircuit I'll reiterate that I don't like putting up barriers to editing and adding content.
16:34 Hypftier Uploading images makes it impossible for niche languages like LabView or Piet to get task solutions, though.
16:34 Hypftier well, impossible from non-paying participants, at least.
16:35 shortcircuit At $5, I hope that's not a significant barrier.
16:35 shortcircuit LabView is going to need a new solution anyway, though. I just don't know what, yet.
16:35 Hypftier granted. But might put off an occasional contributor who doesn't have time to contribute many solutions to the site.
16:36 Hypftier Ok, Piet is esoteric and therefore ... well ... of little imoprtance, I guess :)
16:36 shortcircuit I should try poking the LabView backing company (again), and asking them if they can produce a free renderer/viewer that would run on Linux.
16:37 parsleyfirefly shortcircuit: I've seen some sites (NaNoWriMo being one, I think) that will give you some sort of icon/title by your name in postings if you donate a certain (small) amount. Might be a good way to encourage donation without limiting free content.
16:38 Hypftier parsleyfirefly: we did that with our game a few years ago and it worked actually quite fine. Players that donated just had a small icon next to their names.
16:38 Hypftier RC can't currently live off donations alone, right?
16:39 shortcircuit Hypftier: I think most people who would submit Piet examples would be interested enough in the language that $5 wouldn't be a particular barrier.
16:39 shortcircuit Hypftier: For static costs, by the look of it, donations work fine. Server costs are covered through the year, I believe.
16:39 shortcircuit However, I'm now facing a different problem.
16:40 shortcircuit I'm running out of time in life to be able to divide between work, RC and enough personal life to retain sanity.
16:41 shortcircuit RC is going to need to become a notable personal income stream for me in the next year and a half.
16:41 shortcircuit I won't run _that_ off of donations. :)
16:42 shortcircuit I do like the donator-identifier button, though.
16:42 Hypftier No way to get a company to pay for you maintaining it?
16:42 shortcircuit Hypftier: I've thought about that, but I don't know who would find it worthwhile; I try very much to keep RC vendor neutral.

18:30 mwn3d_phone Missed another global notice. I submitted a report about it and they found a bug with notices that have "$$*" in them. The fix is in their beta version but I can wait till a real release.
18:35 shortcircuit mwn3d_phone: What app are you using again?
18:36 mwn3d_phone Andchat
18:37 mwn3d_phone So far that's the only problem I've had with it.
18:42 mwn3d_phone Disconnects are pretty much because I'm on a cell phone. That's ok. It lets me do SSL. I guess the only other thing I want is copy/paste from the chat log.
18:47 shortcircuit I think Coderjoe__ mentioned bouncers?
18:47 shortcircuit That might handle your disconnects.
18:54 mwn3d_phone Its not too bad. I don't need to be constantly connected at work anyway.

18:58 shortcircuit mwn3d_phone: It's not a matter of being constantly connected, but having a constant presence.
18:59 shortcircuit Rather like how I'm using ssh+screen+irssi; I may not always be attached to this screen session, but the backlog's all there when I get in.
19:01 mwn3d_phone For me right now its not worth effort. I'm only here (low activity) and in the channel with RIT people (unimportant activity).
19:01 * shortcircuit nods
19:04 mwn3d_phone If I ever need to follow a channel for my job then I'll figure something out
19:04 mwn3d_phone You never know...they might set up #bankofamerica
19:06 slavik1 mwn3d_phone: do clients get to join?
19:14 mwn3d_phone slavik1: its not real. That was a joke.
19:15 mwn3d_phone I don't know what they would use it for if they started it
19:15 mwn3d_phone It would be ineffective for devs. There are so many groups here we would need a channel for each one probably.
19:22 * shortcircuit thinks he just figured out where mwn3d_phone works.
19:23 mwn3d_phone Heh I think I put it on my user page by now
19:24 opticron i use screen+irssi+ssh from my phone
19:24 opticron tends to work pretty well
19:24 opticron connectbot makes sending screen commands easy
19:24 opticron but only because I have a trackball
19:25 mwn3d_phone Connectbot is nice
19:25 mwn3d_phone Helps me keep track of my IRC bot
19:25 opticron I don't know how people deal with not having a pointer device
19:25 opticron for cursors and whatnot
19:25 opticron it's damn hard to edit text without it
19:26 opticron but I guess most people don't do that :/
19:26 shortcircuit I take it ConnectBot is an SSH client for Android?
19:26 mwn3d_phone Yeah
19:26 shortcircuit opticron: You need to move farther on the path of vim, it seems. :)
19:26 mwn3d_phone Lol
19:26 mwn3d_phone I'm reminded of tthe "real programmers" xkcd comic
19:26 opticron shortcircuit, not for a phone
19:27 opticron i use vim exclusively at work
19:27 shortcircuit I used PuTTY on my WinMo phone, and I decided the lack of a keyboard was a real problem for interacting with screen.
19:27 shortcircuit Hm.
19:28 shortcircuit I was looking at my /etc/vim/vimrc on my Gentoo box today, and I noticed that vim has awareness of the mouse.
19:28 shortcircuit I don't know what it uses it for, or how, but that's worth knowing.
19:28 opticron gpm?
19:29 shortcircuit More UI curiosity. It has specific awareness of xterms, at least.
19:29 shortcircuit I know mc recognizes the mouse cursor in an xterm, and I think it may recognize the mouse cursor in PuTTY.
19:29 opticron huh
19:29 shortcircuit I don't know if screen handles that kind of translation, though.

23:29 Hypftier shortcircuit: some solutions to that task already omit the trailing line break. Or they give both. Maybe we should just explicitly divide them.
