14:52 shortcircuit Someone remind me what the @echo on equivalent is in Bash?
15:46 BenBE I don't understand what you mean ;-)
15:47 shortcircuit In DOS, if you had a line that was "@echo off", it wouldn't echo the lines of the batch file as it executed. (By default, it did echo those line).
15:47 shortcircuit "@echo on" caused it to trace its output again.
15:48 shortcircuit I wound up creating a function which echoed its arguments, and then ran them.
16:08 BenBE Why don't you start a bash in debug mode?
16:08 BenBE Should have the same effect ;-)
16:08 BenBE (or at least a simular one)
17:11 kpreid shortcircuit: set -v
17:11 kpreid set +v to cancel
17:12 kpreid (set -e is also a handy thing sometimes; it makes every line implicitly '... || exit' so that you don't continue after an error)
17:16 BenBE Which brings us back to the one entryx on the planet recently regarding less known POSIX features ...
17:17 kpreid :-)
17:18 BenBE Yeah, at least someone is reading them ;-)
17:18 BenBE I wonder how many people read my "GeSHi getting signed" entry AND actually checked the signatures for the releases they downloaded ;-)
17:18 kpreid I *wrote* that post on the planet.
17:19 BenBE kpreid I know; and *I* read it :P

21:31 Coderjoe the @ was not exclusive to echo. it could be put at the start of any line in batch, and it would prevent that line from being printed out
21:33 Coderjoe in fact, I've used the @ when writing a for loop on the command line before, so the command interpreter wouldn't spam out the commands each iteration
21:34 BenBE I know.
