04:00 shortcircuit mwn3d_phone: Yeah, more or less.
04:00 shortcircuit Probably the biggest problem is that I _never_ learned matrices.
04:01 mwn3d_phone shortcircuit: I don't get paid enough to teach you that.
04:01 mwn3d_phone Also I never learned it very well
04:01 shortcircuit I should have learned it in 7th grade, and (in that class) we'd been going through the book sequentially chapter by chapter. I was looking forward to that chapter...and then the teacher skipped it.
04:01 mwn3d_phone For four years in high school I tried to program matrix multiplication and I never got it in any of the 5 or 6 languages I used then
04:02 shortcircuit Actually, that might be a good set of tasks.
04:02 shortcircuit Basic matrix operations.
04:02 shortcircuit Also a good opportunity for demonstrating vector operation support.
04:04 mwn3d_phone I think most of them are there but they aren't organized
04:09 mwn3d_phone I think the J-ers would go nuts for those. They could come up with all kinds of cool stuff.
04:30 soniakeys do vector operations usually require coding?  i thought like SSE support was usually transparent in a language.
04:31 soniakeys GPU coding I think is something different though.  I think that usually takes libraries.
04:32 soniakeys (but see, i barely know what i'm talking about)

05:59 sorear soniakeys: vectorizable code usually has to be highly stereotyped
06:00 soniakeys mm, so even if the compiler does stuff automatically, you have to write in a certain way?
06:02 sorear it's more a question of coding around hardware limitations
06:03 sorear I am not an expert in the field
06:04 soniakeys thanks.  interestesting stuff.  i'm certainly not.  bedtime for me now though.

09:35 Coderjoe no, sse vectorization is not usually done automatically. compilers may use sse for optimizing general operations, though
09:36 Coderjoe and never learned matrix math? really?

15:23 Hypftier https://github.com/elitheeli/oddities/blob/master/rule110-grid.html So HTML + CSS (and a but user interaction) suffice for cellular automata? ;)

16:29 shortcircuit Hypftier: Doesn't do anything on my machine.
16:29 Hypftier shortcircuit: http://hypftier.de/temp/110.png
16:29 Hypftier Basically it just tells you where the next line has active cells
16:29 Hypftier which probably is as much as CSS can do. But I like the idea :)
16:30 Hypftier you still have to click the checkboxes manually. Quite time-consuming to be honest. And I think it doesn't work with FF 3.6
16:30 shortcircuit Didn't work with mine
16:31 shortcircuit http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/8729/110.png
16:31 Hypftier hm, apparently refuses to work at all in FF, then/
16:31 Hypftier just tried in FF 4 ... there isn't even space around the checkboxes that could be colored
16:34 Hypftier ok, tried and confirmed it working in Chrome, Opera, IE9RC, Safari. Doesn't work at all in Firefox, not even FF4.

16:37 fedaykin "Talk:Scripted Main - Rosetta Code" http://rldn.net/85i
16:37 shortcircuit I'm really, really, really hoping that cools down soon.
16:38 shortcircuit I haven't had time to step in as early as I'd have liked, and it feels like it's gotten highly emotional in that talk page.
16:45 Hypftier So the disagreement there is mostly whether the name of the task is bad or wrong?
16:45 Hypftier (still trying to understand the actual problem; honestly I think Java was the first thing that came ot my mind upon reading the description)
16:47 Mathnerd314 joined #rosettacode
16:47 shortcircuit There was also at least one description of the task as "a kind of spam".
16:48 shortcircuit I don't know where the conversation sits any longer. I think some people in there still don't understand what the task is supposed to do or be about.
16:49 Hypftier I think your description »does one thing when run, does another when used as library« is pretty good. Now it only needs a catchy name ;)
16:51 shortcircuit "Contextual Execution" came to mind, but the word 'context' might be ambiguous.
16:51 opticron "Using an Executable as a Library"
16:53 shortcircuit One suggested title was 'Executable Library', which seems OK. 301'ing 'Executable as Library' to that might be work, too.
16:53 opticron sounds good to me
