02:18 jriselvato Howdy RC.
02:22 sorear hi.
02:26 jriselvato Hows it going Sorear?
02:35 sorear What do you want?
02:37 jriselvato Whoa, came to talk. No looking for a task to be made.
02:38 sorear I don't understand how anyone can answer a question as vague as "Hows it going"
02:40 jriselvato I see. Well usual response is, its going well. Or i can't complain.
02:42 mwn3d_phone1 I'm doing well except for allergies
02:43 sorear I'm doing well except for everything I'm not doing well in. ?
02:43 mwn3d_phone1 is now known as mwn3d_phone
02:44 jriselvato I see. Well thats good i guess.
02:44 jriselvato Howdy mwn3d
02:47 jriselvato mwn3d, i managed to get rather good at Othello. Since you told me about it, I practice by playing until I win a game on expert, before I can do any other computer related activity.
02:47 jriselvato It sort of gets my brain working and a eager want to program going.
02:48 mwn3d_phone Heh. I had it for NES. I usually grumbled at the cartridge as I dug through the bin.
02:49 mwn3d_phone Maybe you could make an AI for it
02:49 mwn3d_phone Be careful of memory though...the full game tree could get huge.
02:50 jriselvato Well the jester (the game download, has a AI)
02:51 jriselvato I was talking about it with my mate Nick and he was suggesting i create a clone, with lan multiplayer.
02:51 jriselvato Which shouldn't be to hard.
02:52 jriselvato I am working on a secret html5/css3 program/site atm, so i don't have time to work on a othello clone.
02:52 mwn3d_phone A text version shouldn't be too difficult to plan out
02:52 jriselvato text based Othello?
02:53 mwn3d_phone Use "o" and "x" or something rather than white and black
02:53 mwn3d_phone Just print a new board with each move
02:53 mwn3d_phone That'll help you concentrate on the game logic first
02:54 mwn3d_phone Make it look good later
02:56 jriselvato Your probably right, hmm wouldn't be that hard.
02:56 jriselvato I never wrote a text based  game besides a rpg.
02:57 jriselvato I did play one MUD which updated its maps like how you described so i know what your getting at.
02:58 mwn3d_phone I did battleship for a project in CS once
02:58 mwn3d_phone All you have to do is reprint the board at appropriate times
02:59 jriselvato Yeah i have you. I guess the user would also need to input coords.
02:59 mwn3d_phone And set up a coordinate system so they can type in their moves
02:59 mwn3d_phone Yep
02:59 jriselvato What exactly is CS btw? I just recently heard about it from your profile i think.
03:01 jriselvato Does it stand for something?
03:02 mwn3d_phone Computer science
03:02 mwn3d_phone College classes specifically
03:04 jriselvato is it a language?
03:04 jriselvato haha, oh i see. Well i feel foolish
03:05 jriselvato I have seen CS multiple times and i thought it was a retro language that barely had any internet information on. I google it and couldn't find it but it also did tell me CS was computer science. :P
03:06 sorear CS is also CeeSharp
03:10 jriselvato as in C#
03:10 jriselvato ?
03:10 mwn3d_phone That's the one
03:10 jriselvato :P
03:10 jriselvato So what are you up to mwn3d?
03:11 mwn3d_phone I just finished watching hockey. Gotta get ready for bed soon.
03:13 jriselvato Ah alright I'll let you go. Enjoy your sleep.

03:26 sorear Hi
03:26 sorear What's with the [RCo]?
03:27 Dgamey[RCo] for Rosetta, not sure why I did it in the first place
03:27 Dgamey[RCo] The only reason I'm on this IRC
03:27 jriselvato Howdy Dgamey
03:29 jriselvato ...
03:30 Dgamey[RCo] Just clarified the RSA task and started looking at task categorization on Pump
03:35 Dgamey[RCo] hopefully the pump page will get some discussion going on categorization.

15:30 mikemol sorear: [RCo] is a prefix applied by http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Special:WebChat to the wiki username.
15:30 fedaykin "Web chat - Rosetta Code"
15:30 mikemol The intent is to avoid namespace conflicts where someone's wiki username is someone else's FreeNode username.
15:31 mikemol er. Suffix?
15:31 mikemol Heh

15:31 jriselvato Interesting.
15:32 Jdriselvato[RCo] Glad we have one of these though,
15:32 jriselvato is there a way to make the size of the chat bigger?
15:34 mikemol Firebug?
15:34 mikemol Other than that, not that I know of.
15:35 jriselvato Ah, well i always have xChat, so no worries.
15:35 jriselvato How are you doing today?
15:35 mikemol At work
15:35 jriselvato Ah, just checking in?
15:35 mikemol So, not bad, not good. :)
15:36 mikemol Semi-idle atm. I context-switched away from one project, but can't switch into the other yet.
15:36 Jdriselvato[RCo] left #rosettacode
15:36 jriselvato I see, what is the project?
15:37 mikemol Not a good question to ask. :)
15:37 jriselvato Ah FBI?!
15:38 jriselvato Yeah I gotcha.
15:38 mwn3d_phone "I'm not at liberty to say"
15:38 jriselvato You two work together?
15:38 mwn3d_phone No
15:38 mwn3d_phone Only on RC
15:38 jriselvato RC is a fine job though
15:40 mwn3d_phone It doesn't pay very well :p
15:40 mikemol jriselvato: RC doesn't pay me at all. I'm at my day job, where I write custom software.
15:40 mikemol Downside of that is that specifics are all covered under NDA.
15:40 jriselvato Its the experience is all that counts.
15:41 jriselvato Yeah i remember you told me RC only takes money out of your pocket.
15:42 mikemol Huh. Fairly certain I didn't use those words. :)
15:42 jriselvato mikemol, who does your hosting?
15:42 mikemol RC doesn't pay me, though it's paying for itself right now via donations.
15:42 mikemol jriselvato: I've got one VPS node at prgmr.com, and another at Linode.
15:43 mikemol The node at prgmr.com has the database, webserver and cache server. The node at Linode is an always-on place for automated backups to go.
15:43 fedaykin "Linux and NetBSD Xen VPS hosting."
15:44 jriselvato Oh nice, I will look into prgmr once I need a hosting site.
15:45 jriselvato Oh man Xen-powered thats awesome.
15:45 mikemol Downside to prgmr is that it doesn't have a pretty web interface for managing everything. OTOH, if you don't need it, prgmr.com is much cheaper than all the other options I've seen.
15:45 fedaykin "Linux and NetBSD Xen VPS hosting."
15:45 mikemol fedaykin: Yes, we know. :)
15:45 jriselvato Who is fedaykin?
15:46 mikemol I've got a node with 2GB of RAM that's costing about $35/mo.
15:46 mikemol jriselvato: Bot.
15:46 jriselvato Ah i see, certain words trigger a response.
15:47 jriselvato So with them allowing you to use XEN you can split up your space into multiple sites?
15:50 mikemol jriselvato: They use xen; my node *is* one of those sites.
15:50 mikemol My DomU is my playground, I can't go outside it.
15:53 jriselvato Oh i see. well still its a nice service.
15:53 jriselvato Wow, thats like a really good idea and easy way to make a service out of XEN.
15:53 jriselvato Never even thought of that.
15:54 mikemol jriselvato: I think that's how most VPS providers do it.
15:55 jriselvato Maybe KVM as well.
15:59 jriselvato Want to hear a sad story about xen. I was interning at this one company. I had my own server and everything. I was learning virtualization All that good mess with XEN on it. So one day i come into the office and i was told my Server is being taken away. I wasn't going to complain about it, so i just went along with it. A few days later my boss at the time says he wants me to keep working with XEN. So he tells me to install XEN on
15:59 jriselvato my desktop. At the time I didn't know it was going to be such an issue to get this task to work. So for about a good week, i sat there building, compiling, googling, writing patchs, for something that just practically impossible to get done. To this day he insists that I should have been able to figure it out, even though his actual employees told him is unreasonable and overly complicated to make such a process work.
