02:43 Dgamey[RCo] hi.  I need help.  File upload seems to be broken.  Browsing to PNG or JPEG and interface claims "Permitted file types: png, gif, jpeg, svg. "
02:59 Dgamey[RCo] hi?
02:59 mwn3d_phone mikemol: I think you're the only one who can fix that
03:01 Dgamey[RCo] how's that?
03:02 Dgamey[RCo] I've created png and jpg versions
03:02 Dgamey[RCo] The upload page won't load them
03:03 mwn3d_phone If the site doesn't accept them then there's probably a problem with the way the upload page is set up. mikemol is the one to go to with problems like that.
03:04 mwn3d_phone I was pinging him about it. I didn't mean that you had to fix it yourself. Sorry.
03:04 Dgamey[RCo] k - oops i see

03:36 Dgamey[RCo] mikemol - are you there?
03:49 mwn3d_phone Dgamey[RCo]: timezones may be a factor. Its almost midnight where I am. I forget if he's the same or one hour behind me but either way its still pretty late.
03:49 Dgamey[RCo] I'm out west today
03:50 Dgamey[RCo] should I send an email ?
03:51 Dgamey[RCo] or is there a bugs page?
03:52 mwn3d_phone id suggest mentioning it on his talk page: [[User talk:Short Circuit]]

12:12 BenBE The support for MMIX should get better soon.
12:13 BenBE Currently working with someone from Wikipedia to enhance the highlighting.
12:32 * BenBE is uploading some updated language files for GeSHi ...

12:48 daxim thou speakest the truth, sandrider
12:53 BenBE Update complete.
12:54 Hypftier Hm, there was also another project ... PLEAC, I think. I couldn't contribute to that, though, as it forbade languages with only non-free implementations.
12:56 daxim http://pleac.sf.net is the original one
12:56 fedaykin "PLEAC - Programming Language Examples Alike Cookbook"
12:56 Hypftier *nods* that's the one
12:56 BenBE In case for a Twitter Update: Affected languages are: Haskell, LDIF, MMIX, PHP, Pig, Spark, Stonescript, UPC
13:07 BenBE Could anyone update the Village Pump GeSHi page to sort solved issues into the proper categories?
13:36 mikemol daxim: I'd oint you to [[Help:Similar Sites]] but I see (via #perl) you already know that page. :)
13:36 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Help:Similar_Sites
13:37 mikemol Ah, I see what that's about.
13:37 * mikemol wonders how new langref is.
13:37 mikemol Actually about the same age as RC.
13:37 Hypftier didn't grew as large, apparently :)
13:38 mikemol Oh, right! I recognize this site, now.
13:38 mikemol I remember admiring the site's organization.

15:54 mikemol I think I'll set up an SSL cert for RC soon.
15:54 mikemol Mostly because I don't like filling out my own login form over cleartext.

16:44 mwn3d_phone mikemol: I was gonna ask about that a while ago. Its good to be part of the solution to generally unsecured internet activity.
16:44 mwn3d_phone I thought I read somewhere that it costs money though so I didn't think it was that important
16:44 mikemol mwn3d_phone: Getting a free 1-year cert is easy. See startssl.com.
16:44 fedaykin "StartSSL™ Certificates & Public Key Infrastructure"
16:45 mikemol I don't know if I'd go with that or with something that actually cost money, though; having to re-setup every year wouldn't be ideal.
16:46 mwn3d_phone Cool. If its free and easy I say go for it.
16:50 slavik I wonder if we will reach a stage in ssl where every company is their own CA
16:50 slavik for their own domain
17:01 mikemol slavik: Trouble is, that defeats SSL's security model.
17:02 daxim left #rosettacode
17:02 mikemol A CA is supposed to be a commonly-trusted entity.
17:02 mikemol That said, self-signed certs aren't uncommon, but they raise all kinds of warnings in browsers, and some apps won't touch them at all.
17:03 slavik hmm ... what does it take to become a CA?
17:04 mikemol Self-signed or globally trusted?

18:59 mikemol mwn3d_phone1: Do I sense some Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade influence in your Java implementation of [[Rock Paper Scissors]]?
18:59 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Rock_Paper_Scissors
19:00 mwn3d_phone1 Heh a little bit
19:00 mwn3d_phone1 Its a game. Its ok to be a little silly :p.
19:01 mikemol Certainly. I was just amused. :)
19:01 mwn3d_phone1 Fortunately when you lose rock paper scissors you don't rapidly age and turn into dust and bones (in general)
19:02 mwn3d_phone1 is now known as mwn3d_phone
19:03 mwn3d_phone I'm not sure how similar that implementation is to the one I made for my IRC bot
19:04 mwn3d_phone But the bot one is more complicated because it has to send PMs and wait on each player and make sure anyone is in at most one game at a time
19:04 mwn3d_phone I think I gave them both expandable item sets though
19:04 mikemol I've got another implementation at home that uses a 1st-order markov model for predicting player action. I intend to adapt that to an N+-order markov model (use as high an order as there's history to support, and all lower orders).
19:06 mikemol My expectation is that most players, in trying to predict another player, will end up engaging in some kind of cyclical sequence.
19:07 mwn3d_phone There's an RPS strategy site I saw one with named sets of three moves
19:07 mwn3d_phone "The avalanche" was rock rock rock
19:08 mwn3d_phone "The bureaucract" was paper paper paper
19:08 mwn3d_phone (Assuming that most people do "best of 3" RPS contests)
19:09 mwn3d_phone Getting the AI to work right was a brain-bender for me for this one
19:10 mwn3d_phone I got locked in to mapping the moves to [0..1) until I looked at the ada version
19:17 mikemol That's kindof why I linked to [[Probabilistic choice]]
19:17 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Probabilistic_choice
19:17 mikemol In fact, the Python example's probchoice method was adapted from there.
19:31 mwn3d_phone Yeah I looked at javas example there but its translated from C and that was obvious from the style (I probably did it too). Maybe I'll add a different java example there.
19:33 mwn3d_phone Ugh....yeah. I gotta fix that.
19:39 mikemol I definitely like Ada's solution for weighted choice in RPS. I was using the Python code in an experimental markov model I was writing, but I don't think it was efficient enough for the way I had to tie things together.
19:56 mwn3d_phone Ahhh...much better

21:46 Coderjoe rock paper scissors lizard spock
21:50 mwn3d_phone Coderjoe: I think it'd be ok to add those extra options if you want. I made the java version expandable.
