12:59 realzies is now known as trolzies
13:21 mwn3d_phone mikemol: I'm testing file uploads. I just did png jpg and gif from IE7 (its what I'm stuck on for IE at work). I'm gonna try FF5 now.
13:22 mwn3d_phone Jpg worked in IE but you have to have "jpeg" as the destination type. I also had it as the source type.
13:22 mikemol mwn3d_phone: I suspect part of DGamey's problem is that he may be simply renaming files, rather than transcoding them.
13:22 mikemol I'll need to see the files he's working with to know for sure.
13:23 mikemol (At leat, I think that would be part of the problem in IE9)
13:25 mwn3d_phone Heh...FF is a little weird
13:25 mikemol As for FF5, I *suspect* the form field is populated, just not visible. Very few websites use classic HTML 'file' upload form elements any more, and those that do liked to hide them last I saw. Might be a FF5 bug where no indication of the form element's content is visible.
13:25 mwn3d_phone When I select the file with the dialog the path doesn't show up and the permitted types message turns red
13:25 mwn3d_phone I also thought the info was there and invisible
13:25 mikemol Ok, I need to reattach to this screen session -dRR; I can't see my whole sentence...
13:26 mwn3d_phone So I typed the destination name in and clicked upload.
13:26 mwn3d_phone The page reloaded
13:26 mwn3d_phone So I tried the path again and this time the path DID show up
13:26 mikemol Wait...you were able to type the name in?
13:26 * mikemol looks at the upload form.
13:26 mwn3d_phone I didn't try
13:26 mikemol oic
13:26 mwn3d_phone I could probably tab around to it
13:27 mwn3d_phone I got a png to work from FF using that workaround I described above
13:29 mwn3d_phone I can't tab around to type in the path field
13:30 mwn3d_phone All three types worked in FF but I had to go through that craziness first
14:18 mwn3d_phone There are some fixes to file uploads in the new version of MW (1.17.0)
14:18 mwn3d_phone Lots of new features
14:21 mwn3d_phone I didn't see anything that looked like our problem in the bug fixes section but they might have done something that accidentally helps
14:25 mwn3d_phone It came out june 22 in case you want to wait a while to see if there are any quick fixes they need to put out
14:33 mikemol Yeah, I want to get MW upgraded. Have a different blockage atm before I can do that.
14:36 mwn3d_phone No rush. Just making sure you're aware.

16:17 mwn3d_phone I just thought for a few more seconds about RPS and realized I need to add a bit more to make it expandable. The what-beats-what map isn't 1-to-1 when you add more options.
16:26 mikemol There's also the question of deciding which what-beats to go with. (Presumably you'd want to go with one less-frequently selected by the player)
16:38 mwn3d_phone mikemol: that's a good point. I just changed the java version so it randomly selects from the list. Maybe I'll add the frequency check later.

16:52 Dgamey[RCo] mike_mol?
16:53 Dgamey[RCo] re: upload, what did you mean by renaming and not transcoding?
16:57 mikemol Dgamey[RCo]: *pokes mwn3d_phone*
16:57 mikemol Dgamey[RCo]: My thought was that you might have been changing the file extensions without changing the file contents to match.
16:58 mikemol Pretty obvious thing not to do if you're familiar with image encodings, but it's a mistake I've seen before. >.>
16:58 mikemol Though when I looked at the files you emailed me, it was pretty obvious you set those up right.
16:59 mikemol mwn3d_phone discovered problems with how FF5 handles the upload page, though.

17:16 mwn3d_phone mikemol: sorry about disconnecting when you were talking to me. Blame verizon. Is there any other workaround for the FF5 problem?
17:17 mwn3d_phone Also [[binary digits]] is definitely a dupe isn't it?
17:17 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/binary_digits
17:18 mikemol mwn3d_phone: I was hoping you could poke Dgamey[RCo] with the workaround you found.
17:19 mwn3d_phone Dgamey[RCo]: ok...its kind of complex but it gets the job done.
17:19 mwn3d_phone 1: go to the upload page and fill in the destination file name (using "jpeg" for jpg files)
17:20 mwn3d_phone 2: click the upload button (it won't upload anything...the page will reload with the destination still filled in)
17:20 mwn3d_phone 3: click the source file path field and choose your file from the chooser
17:20 mwn3d_phone 4: click upload and it works
17:21 mwn3d_phone That's for FF5. Everything worked in IE7 for me but I don't have later versions on my work computer.
17:23 mwn3d_phone And as mikemol talked about make sure you use a "save as"-like option to save your files rather than simply renaming them so the content matches the extension
17:43 Dgamey[RCo] works with IE now
17:44 Dgamey[RCo] ff stil problematic but I'll try later

19:02 mikemol Hm
19:03 mikemol Ledrug vs Markhobley in [[Talk:Binary digits]].
19:03 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Talk:Binary_digits
19:03 mwn3d_phone I'm part of it too but I've agreed with ledrug since he came in so I didn't feel like I needed to repeat things
19:30 mikemol I know. I was just amused because both of them represent a perspective that's not visibly common among most of RC's active users; they both tend to think closer to the metal and with a directed interest in practical consequence.
19:32 mikemol Individually, they've tended to run across the grain of how most of RC appears to think, so to see them cross each other is very interesting to observe.
19:33 mwn3d_phone K well I'm just glad someone else came in cause I was just getting frustrated
19:38 mikemol I don't usually step in until I can see frustration getting in the way of communication. And that conversation looks like most of it's largely taken place within an hour...it's difficult to jump in that short of a time frame.
19:47 mwn3d_phone I'm still not seeing what this task covers that the other two don't. That's the information I want.
19:50 mikemol A) it sounds like he's confused about the distinction between machine encodings of numbers, language encodings of numbers, and display of numbers.
19:51 mikemol B) I think he's looking for numeric processing through string manipulation.
19:51 mikemol Just going the long way around to find it.
19:51 Coderjoe from just the talk page. it sounds like he's looking for how you can specify numbers in binary as literals in different languages. This does not match the tasks I see on the article page. (the tasks seem to belong to one of the tasks mwn3d mentioned)
19:52 mikemol Think [[Non-decimal radices/Convert]] or [[Non-decimal radices/Output]], but with a prohibition on using language built-in handlers.
19:52 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Non-decimal_radices/Convert  http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Non-decimal_radices/Output
19:52 mwn3d_phone But there is no prohibition on built-ins
19:52 Coderjoe the python example uses a langauge built-in
19:52 mwn3d_phone It says that in the description
19:53 Coderjoe effectively using printf-type specifiers
19:54 mwn3d_phone And he's not looking for binary literals
19:54 mwn3d_phone He added ZX spectrum basic
19:54 mwn3d_phone And it doesn't use binary literals
19:55 Coderjoe as specified this looks like a binary-specific version of Non-decimal_radices/Output
19:56 mwn3d_phone Yeah I agree with that
19:57 mwn3d_phone but it also allows people to define their own conversion function (in case that other task didn't)
19:58 mwn3d_phone Which is what happens in the "convert" version of that task
19:59 Coderjoe yeah
20:04 mwn3d_phone And binary literals should go in literals/integers...but that's not part of this :p
