18:32 mikemol mwn3d_phone: Added +1 button
18:32 mwn3d_phone Whoo!
18:33 mwn3d_phone I don't see it yet
18:34 mwn3d_phone I don't think its blocked at work...
18:34 mwn3d_phone There it is.
18:34 mwn3d_phone And it is blocked at work.
18:34 mwn3d_phone Whoo!
18:36 mwn3d_phone It even works
18:36 mwn3d_phone Was it hard to add?
18:37 mikemol Five minutes creating a new MW extension.
18:37 mikemol The trick is finding those five minutes when I've got the right tools handy. ssh (and thus, RC admin work) has been inconvenient for me for a few months, now.
18:48 mwn3d_phone Hm...the "tweet" button just showed up at work
18:48 mwn3d_phone Why isn't that one blocked?
18:49 mwn3d_phone And SU just showed up too
18:51 mikemol I'd add a FB "Like" button, but the code for those appears to be URL-dependent. These three all get the URL via JS, so I don't have to feed them in advance.
19:03 mwn3d_phone People are already stumbling
19:03 mwn3d_phone Every day I'm stumbling
19:04 Hypftier mikemol: in the interest of privacy you may also consider http://www.heise.de/extras/socialshareprivacy/ which offers such "like" buttons in a two-stage way, thereby preventing sending data to Facebook, et. al. just by visiting the page.
19:06 mikemol Hypftier: My expectation is that people care about it, they'll be blocking it in their browser.
19:06 mikemol bleh. if/where people care about it, they'll be blocking it in their browser.
19:06 mikemol RC already uses Google Analytics, and always has.
19:06 Hypftier kk, was just a thought :)
19:06 mikemol :)
19:06 mwn3d_phone Maybe we should make [[Help:Tinfoil hat]] with warnings about such things :p
19:06 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Help:Tinfoil_hat (Doesn't exist.)
19:07 Hypftier it's not the technically savvy and aware people I worry in that case :)
19:07 * Hypftier adds "about" somewhere in the last line
19:07 mikemol Hm
19:07 mikemol "it's not about the technically savvy and aware people I worry in that case :)" ?
19:08 mikemol Bleh. I fail. I meant to invert the intended meaning through careful placement.
19:08 Hypftier I will try providing better source material for that to work next time :)
19:10 mwn3d_phone Dude it is so cool to see the counts of tweets, stumbles, and +1s going up
19:10 mikemol Anyway, political, economic and privacy issues aside, it's rather unlikely for someone visiting RC to be unaware.
19:10 mikemol (Seeing as RC is such a technically-focused entity)
19:10 Hypftier Well, there are those who google for algorithms and code and then copy-pasting their programs together, but I guess they deserve neither sympathy nor special treatment :)
19:11 mikemol They're still sufficiently technically savvy to be trying to feed something into a compiler or interpreter. If they're not already aware of the privacy issues, I expect they will be before their classes are done. ^^
19:11 Hypftier GA has real-time statistics in its new version, by the way. Also nice to watch, especially if there are currently many people visiting :)
19:11 * mikemol nods
19:12 mikemol I haven't seen a traffic spike since the real-time stuff has been enabled, but it's still amusing to see.
19:12 Hypftier you probably have more than 10 visitors at the same time, too :)
19:12 mwn3d_phone Lol I know what I'll be using as some work-from-home entertainment tomorrow
19:12 mikemol Hypftier: Generally between 25 and 50 at the same time.

19:31 mwn3d_phone mikemol: I just got an error from the site
19:31 * mikemol nods
19:31 mikemol I found a .htaccess file that I thought was ancient cruft...
19:31 mwn3d_phone "Either the server is overloaded or there was an error in a CGI script"
19:32 mikemol Already fixed.
19:33 mwn3d_phone K
19:33 mwn3d_phone Confirmed

21:06 Kumul i hope you dont mind, i just put all tasks on a repo so that i can practice without ever having to visit the site again
21:11 mikemol Kumul?
21:11 mikemol Is this related to the Google Analytics, twitter or G+ stuff?
21:11 mikemol Or is this just a convenience thing?
21:12 mikemol Either way, be aware that all that stuff is under GFDL 1.2.
21:13 Kumul its a convenience thing
21:13 Kumul and what do you mean by the GFDL?
21:13 mikemol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Free_Documentation_License
21:13 mikemol What kind of repo?
21:17 Kumul https://bitbucket.org/nal/rosetta-code/src/
21:18 mikemol Neat!
21:18 Kumul im trying to extract it all into a nice Task/lang.lang and such
21:18 mikemol Sweet.
21:19 mikemol If you manage it, let me know.
21:23 Kumul there is nothing awk+shell+sed cant do... except parsing html, which is what im trying to do :P

21:37 mikemol Kumul: When you'd like, feel free to tweet @rosettacode about it, and I'll have @rosettacode RT.
21:38 mikemol But, again, keep in mind the GFDL license, and make sure you keep copyright notices in there somewhere.
21:39 mikemol Also, some people on RC license their edits under additional licenses, but the functional consequence of the way wikis work is that GFDL 1.2 is the only safe license to assume applicable on RC.
21:41 mikemol Kumul: Honestly, what I'd love to see happen is for RC to take something of the form of its current viewable format, with a git or hg repo on the backend. RC being the official root repo, and accepting pushes or pull requests as edits.
21:42 mikemol The real trick there, though, is salvaging the existing edit history. If you're seriously interested, I'd be willing to put together a current database export, with things like email addresses and passwords stripped, to help toward that end.
21:52 Kumul salvage the edit history seems complicated atm, plus if i start to get "seriously interested", i might get frustrated and not finish what im doing now (which i do a lot and am doing now)
21:52 * mikemol nods
21:54 mikemol If you manage to get a script that can do the "current state of things" in one command, with no interaction, then I think others could at least figure out the rest.
21:54 mikemol Documenting the crap you're going through <em>now</em> would probably at least be useful for someone who tries again in the future.
21:56 mikemol Did I seriously just use HTML tags in IRC?
21:56 * mikemol sighs
22:10 Kumul xD, who knows, maybe opera can look at the html and apply the correct behavior (or some other irc client)
22:16 Kumul what do you mean by "current state of things"? you dont mean doing what mediawiki is doing or anything of the sort right?
22:17 mikemol Kumul: When you look at the wiki, you're looking at it at its current state, what it is at this point in time.
22:17 mikemol The database contains enough information that it's technically feasible to say "show me what the wiki looked like at this other point in time"
22:17 mikemol Actually, it tracks things by revision number, but the principle still applies.
22:18 mikemol So when I say, "the current state of things", I'm mostly thinking, "if it can present a translated snapshot based on a particular input, than I can get a translation for a different point in time by feeding input from what the wiki would have looked like at a different point in time"
22:21 mikemol If I have a program that'd perform a translation like that, I can run the program for version 1, commit. run for version 2. commit. run for version 3. commit. and on and on, for all the thousands of revisions which have happened on the wiki.
22:21 mikemol Time consuming, but that's not so much a problem if it's automateable.
22:42 Coderjoe what is the little red thing under the tweet button on the sidebar under misc?
22:46 mwn3d_phone Coderjoe: stumbleupon

22:48 Coderjoe i am somewhat tempted to post my zip-polynomial crc32 routine that does a byte at a time without tables.
