15:28 mikemol FYI: http://toolserver.org/~mwbot/semantic/20111223.txt
15:28 fedaykin http://rldn.net/1V0
15:30 mikemol Pretty extensive discussion, culminating in how to get SMW to handle the Unimplemented in X pages.
15:30 mikemol Also present, a discussion of how to get a time-ordered list of new tasks.
15:30 mikemol I don't have time to implement it, but all of the tools are installed.
15:35 sorear hey mikemol
15:35 mikemol hey
15:36 mikemol I saw deltree__'s comments.
15:36 sorear did you get to talk to deltree__
15:36 mikemol No; he was offline by the time I got to a computer.
15:36 mikemol Had a Pathfinder session I was running last night.
15:37 mikemol He didn't say anything in PM he didn't say in here.
15:38 mikemol It's certainly food for thought; I don't intend to drop RC, but "why not" is certainly a point for introspection.
15:38 mikemol I can think of both altrustic and non altrustic reasons which ring true for me.
15:39 mikemol On the altruistic side, I can see that it's a large, beneficial resource for a lot of people. I've seen it change people and technologies that touch it, and for the better.
15:42 mikemol On the non-altruistic side, it's a nice bullet point on a resume, it gives me some kinds of practical sysadmin experience, it allows me to be a fly on the wall while watching a large group of very intelligent people talk about and implement things I may not yet understand, and it helps me build connections with a lot of people I may not otherwise have had the opportunity to connect with.
15:43 mikemol Some weird, automated metric site tweeted about RC last week, valuing it at about $20k. I asked myself if I would sell RC if offered $20k, and the answer was a definite *no*.
15:46 mikemol There's certainly a price at which I would, but I don't know what that'd be, and I don't know what conditions I'd want to attach to it.
15:46 Coderjoe what about...
15:46 * Coderjoe raises an eyebrow in a menacing way
15:46 Coderjoe one meeeelion dolars
15:47 Coderjoe I'll even throw in mini-me.
15:48 mikemol Dr. Evil should have insisted that it be tax-free.

17:04 mwn3d_phone mikemol: did you look into the no-fee payments thing I saw a while ago?
17:04 mikemol No
17:05 mikemol Thought about it a couple times, but I've been pretty busy.

22:54 Showell[RCo] hi, i'm interested in crawling rosetta for the 107 coffeescript examples, want to make sure I'm doing everything kosher w/r/t throttling and licenses, anybody got a sec to discuss policies?
23:01 Coderjoe content is licensed GFDL 1.2
23:01 Coderjoe not sure about policies on crawling, other than what robots.txt says
23:03 Showell[RCo] thx, i'm not too concerned about the crawl, if I throttle it by a second per page, I doubt I will make any impact...robots.txt doesn't say a whole heck of a lot
23:04 Showell[RCo] for GFDL compliance, how specific do I need to be w/r/t giving attribute to authors?  It may be difficult to identify specific authors, so I'm wondering if I can copy the content to another site and say something like "This code was originally contributed to rosettacode.org and is under the GFDL license."
23:04 fedaykin "Rosetta Code"
23:05 sorear that would probably be fine; for extra niceness, link back to the specific page/revision you got the example from
23:07 Showell[RCo] ok, sounds good...i'll report back once I have a page up
23:08 Showell[RCo] is there any API to get just a specific language's example from a page?
23:14 Kumul joined #rosettacode
23:15 Coderjoe not currently
23:16 Coderjoe the task pages are still just flat pages with all the language examples on them as sections.
23:16 Coderjoe at some point we might figure out SMW enough to move examples to separate pages and transclude them
23:19 Showell[RCo] ok, thanks
23:20 Showell[RCo] stepping away...thx for the answers, everyone
23:25 mikemol Showell[RCo]: Don't bother throttling the crawl.
23:26 mikemol The server should handle it just fine, as long as you respect robots.txt. (There are some areas robots shouldn't touch, but that shouldn't be a problem for what you're looking for.)
23:27 mikemol In particular, crawling page history hurts like hell, and the "Special" namespace is risky. Anything else shouldn't be a problem at all.
23:28 mikemol Showell[RCo]: Your best bet for getting language-specific material is looking for <div> blocks with an appropriate CSS class.
23:28 * mikemol checks to see what CSS class people are using for CoffeeScript.
23:31 mikemol Looks like people have been using 'coffeescript' to identify the language, so that's what you'll find for a CSS class for the relevant divs.
23:32 mikemol Also, if you link back, you can append "#CoffeeScript" to the end of the URI, to induce browsers to go straight to the portion of the page in question.
23:33 mikemol So...RC turns five years old soon. I'd be silly if I didn't take advantage of that somehow.
23:35 mikemol I'm thinking about offering special stuff, like shirts, hats, mugs. Imagery that says something about having been running for five years. If people want what they order to have some special text on it, that's fine, too. (So, they might have their username, or their pet langauge(s), or both.)
23:37 Showell[RCo] @mikemol, thx, I won't bother with the throttle and I'll append #coffeescript...i should be able to figure out the parse, thx for the tips
23:37 lambdabot Unknown command, try @list
23:38 Showell[RCo] mikemol, thx, I won't bother with the throttle and I'll append #coffeescript...i should be able to figure out the parse, thx for the tips
23:48 mikemol It's a fundraising thing; I'll be looking for the raw garment to be 25% of the purchase cost, and then add shipping. So, for a raw $8 hat, I guesstimate that'd work out to $14 for a generic, and $16 for a customized one.
