02:54 * mikemol needs to note both the $50 donation and $150 donation he's received in the last two weeks.
02:54 mikemol s/150/105
02:55 mikemol Huh
02:55 mwn3d_phone mikemol: I just donated some too
02:55 mikemol I just discovered my keyboard does some weird things with this xterm and the alt key.
02:55 mikemol mwn3d_phone: Yup, that's the 105
02:55 mwn3d_phone I wanted to donate 100 and cover the fees
02:56 mwn3d_phone 5 extra should just about do it I think
02:56 mikemol Probably more than enough.
02:56 mikemol Neat. I can now write things like 0°C or 32°F.
02:57 mikemol Or y=ax²+bx+C
02:57 mwn3d_phone Whoa and andchat can handle those symbols
02:57 mikemol ¡À£¤¥Þ¦ª¨©ß«
02:58 mwn3d_phone All of those too
02:58 mikemol That's alt-shift-1-through-=
02:58 mikemol ±²³´µ¶·¸¹°½
02:58 mwn3d_phone I guess you haven't updated the finace sheets for a while
02:59 mikemol No, I haven't.
02:59 mikemol It's on my need-to-do list.
02:59 mikemol I have a couple slightly higher priorities this week and next, but they're up there.
02:59 mwn3d_phone Was there that much donated in the last few months of 2011?
03:00 mwn3d_phone I assume you keep getting the $19.50 TLA payment
03:01 mikemol No; I dropped that a few months ago when I tried working with the codeEval folks.
03:01 mikemol The CE folks sent me one payment, and then I never heard from them again.
03:01 mwn3d_phone At least you got one payment
03:01 mikemol I'm probably going to either google's text ads or to something from Amazon.
03:02 mikemol TLA paid a lot per placement, but getting placements registered was a terrible process.
03:03 mikemol Anyway, you were wondering how much came in and when. $50 on Dec 31, $105 today. Not counting PP fees.
03:06 mwn3d_phone Well if you get a couple hundred in donations and ad revenue you can get it down to a "normal hobby" cost per year
03:07 mwn3d_phone On par with video games or fancy food for other people
03:17 maustin hey guys
03:17 mwn3d_phone Hello
03:17 maustin I use RosettaCode and http://rigaux.org/language-study/syntax-across-languages.html a lot for reference working on my hobby language
03:18 fedaykin "syntax across languages (One Big Page)" http://rldn.net/5tv
03:19 maustin I would be happy to donate.  just curious how efficient the servers are and how much traffic you get?  I see the google docs, but I'll take a look later
03:19 mwn3d_phone The traffic is a few thousand visitors a day
03:19 mwn3d_phone Mostly during working weeks
03:20 mwn3d_phone We are still in a holiday dip right now
03:20 mwn3d_phone That other listing is pretty big
03:21 mwn3d_phone mikemol can talk about the servers themselves
03:21 maustin is all the content cached html?  do you use any CDN?  I saw a mention of using Amazon
03:22 maustin sorry I'm being blunt hehe, just curious
03:22 mwn3d_phone Amazon stuff was mostly for income sources
03:22 mikemol sec while I look up stats
03:23 mwn3d_phone Ads (possible) and book links (currently used very very little)
03:25 maustin ok, sent a donation
03:26 mwn3d_phone Woohoo!
03:26 maustin I love just staring at random languages and picking out cool stuff
03:27 mwn3d_phone Have you seen the esoteric languages? Like [[befunge]]?
03:27 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/befunge
03:27 maustin it's almost cheating, can you imagine studying 100s of languages years ago? :)
03:29 mikemol According to Google Analytics, we had 2681104.0 pageviews last week, averaging 7,345 views per day.
03:29 maustin not bad
03:30 mikemol Based on some squid log watching a few weeks ago, I suspect that's only reporting about 50% of actual pageviews.
03:31 mwn3d_phone It jumped up a lot in 2011
03:31 mwn3d_phone Almost double I think
03:31 mikemol Fall of 2011 saw a big surge in traffic.
03:32 mwn3d_phone New school year I think
03:33 mwn3d_phone (Based on nothing but the time of year)
03:34 mikemol Partially. Still a 55% jump over the previous year.
03:35 maustin Well there's been a good number of new languages and people realizing there's a lot more to choose from these days
03:35 mikemol maustin: Anyway, the site is a basic LAMP stack with a Squid accelerator proxy and memcached.
03:37 maustin what's you're favorite language out of all you've seen?
03:37 mikemol As the proprietor and benevolent dictator, I kinda have to be neutral. :)
03:37 maustin haha
03:39 mikemol I've seen a lot of neat ideas in a lot of different languages. What's most interesting is watching language designers and communities try to outcompete each other by building better tools.
03:39 maustin dinner time (a little late)..  I'll be back later if someone is here.
03:40 mikemol maustin: O.O
03:40 mikemol Thank you for the donation.
03:40 maustin yeah, one that I find incredible is Apple's Objective-C static analyzer in Xocde 4
03:40 maustin it's heavily underused
03:42 mikemol Being this is RC's 5th anniversary, I do plan on doing something special for fundraising. Need to get a bit of graphic work done, though.
03:51 mwn3d_phone Oh yeah. I'll have to look up the actual day again.

20:26 mwn3d_phone [[Multisplit]] has gotten attention lately...makes me wonder if vincent will come back after his block expires
20:26 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Multisplit
20:31 mwn3d_phone I wonder if this could make talk pages easier for users that are new to MW: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:DiscussionThreading
20:31 fedaykin "Extension:DiscussionThreading - MediaWiki" http://rldn.net/RhFY
20:31 mwn3d_phone Looks kinda ugly
20:32 mwn3d_phone But at least we don't have to keep explaining the ::::::: practice
20:52 mikemol Looks a little outdated. MW has had two 'minor' revisions since then.
20:52 mikemol I almost installed [[mw:Extension:LiquidThreads]] a while back. Looks like it's best I didn't. A solution may be on the way, with [[mw:LiquidThreads 3.0]]

20:53 mikemol Looks like that one's missing its timeline, too. Phase 1 was supposed to be done last August.
21:27 mikemol Just got contacted by linkworth.com. Looks promising.
