05:01 mwn3d_phone Just came up with a silly idea: basically a mirror of the tasks except the solutions all have one little change that breaks them. The idea would be that someone who is good at debugging could figure out the error and correct it before he uses the solution for real.
05:02 mwn3d_phone I'm not actually going to do it...its just a funny idea

12:22 mikemol http://blog.flameeyes.eu/2012/02/01/the-importance-of-http-request-fingerprinting
12:23 fedaykin "Flameeyes's Weblog : The importance of HTTP request fingerprinting" http://rldn.net/NFVc
12:23 mikemol I'm beginning to think that something like http request fingerprinting would be a very, very good way to cope with spam.
12:25 mikemol Instead of blocking on IP (or just blocking on IP), block on the fingerprint. That way, if a spammer is coming through a tor node or a variety of open proxies, as long as their fingerprint doesn't change, they remain blocked.

13:29 ttmrichter mikemol: The problem with fingerprinting is the fairly high risk of false positives.
13:37 mikemol ttmrichter: https://panopticlick.eff.org/
13:37 mikemol Every browser I've tried that in across three different machines came up as a unique result, with the exception of Chrome on a Windows box, running in Incognito mode.
13:43 mikemol I expect that for actual, real users with browser plugins, screen sizes, fonts, etc., the risk of false positives is actually very low.

14:51 ttmrichter OK, I've finally got around to actually filling out my user page.  :)
14:53 ttmrichter Is there any kind of documentation on the various foo tags?
14:53 ttmrichter Like mylang and so on?
15:02 mwn3d_phone ttmrichter: if you go to the template page for each one there are usually directions
15:02 mwn3d_phone Like Template:Mylang
15:02 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Template:Mylang
15:03 mwn3d_phone is a good way to get links for pretty much every template you'll use
15:03 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Category:RCTemplates
15:03 ttmrichter That's what I was looking for, yes.  Thanks.
15:06 mwn3d_phone If you find any that have confusing or missing directions let us know and we can try to fix it
15:06 ttmrichter UserAvatar?
15:06 ttmrichter Dpesn
15:06 ttmrichter Doesn't seem to have directions at all.
15:06 mikemol Click on 'what links here' and see how they're used, if there are no directions.
15:08 ttmrichter So I have to upload a file somehow, then link to it somehow.
15:08 mwn3d_phone The upload file link should be on the left sidebar somewhere
15:09 mwn3d_phone Near the bottom maybe?
15:09 ttmrichter Yeah, found it.  Uploading now.  Then working out how to use it by taking someone's page as an examplar.  :)
15:10 ttmrichter Ah.  And ... he doesn't use it.  Weird.
15:10 mikemol Which user?
15:11 ttmrichter LordMike
15:11 mwn3d_phone Ohhh...useravatar is a categorization template for pictures
15:11 mwn3d_phone Not for use on userpages
15:12 mwn3d_phone It just marks pictures as avatars
15:13 mwn3d_phone To add a picture like he did you just put "" on your userpage
15:13 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/File:your_avatar.png|frame|right
15:13 mikemol I also have a picture on my page, User:Short Circuit
15:13 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/User:Short_Circuit
15:13 ttmrichter This is getting annoying.
15:14 ttmrichter The upload doesn't seem to be working.  At all.
15:14 mikemol oh no...not again.
15:14 mwn3d_phone Oh no. Do we still have that problem??
15:14 ttmrichter Try #3 before I give up.
15:14 mwn3d_phone We have a workaround
15:14 mikemol That should have been fixed.
15:14 mwn3d_phone I think its linked on Talk:Short Circuit
15:14 fedaykin http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Talk:Short_Circuit (Doesn't exist.)
15:14 ttmrichter OK, by telling it to ignore any warnings it works.
15:15 mwn3d_phone Whew
15:15 mikemol Warnings? What browser/version/OS are you using?
15:16 ttmrichter Chromium/undetermined/Linux Mint 11
15:17 ttmrichter OK, I have an avatar.
15:17 ttmrichter Thanks for the help.
15:17 ttmrichter mikemol: The warning was "file is being renamed".
15:18 mikemol Huh.
15:18 mwn3d_phone mikemol: the warnings option is part of MW. Its below all the other options on the file uload page.
15:18 mikemol ah. I'm guessing it didn't like a character in the filename.
15:19 ttmrichter Well, no, I told it to rename it.
15:19 ttmrichter The original name was some string of letters and numbers.
15:20 ttmrichter I set the name on the form to Ttmrichter_Avatar.jpeg
15:20 ttmrichter So it warned me that it changed the name.
15:20 ttmrichter (I don't get it either.)
15:24 mwn3d_phone ttmrichter: I wish your avatar had a little "m" on his shirt like all the other people in south parks version of canada :p
15:24 ttmrichter That would be nice, yes.

16:13 mikemol I very much like the idea of replacing the MW template language with Lua.
16:17 mwn3d_phone mikemol: heh yeah it seems like a fine idea for our community
16:18 mwn3d_phone I have found myself wanting a for loop or a nice if/else block structure in template code
16:19 mwn3d_phone It wouldn't have to be a whole language...just a few little structures like that
16:20 mwn3d_phone It'd be nice to have syntax to assign named parameter default values in one place so I wouldn't have to keep saying "{default value}" everywhere

17:50 ttmrichter The "man or boy test" is really a difficult thing to do in pure languages.
17:53 sorear The "man or boy test" is quite inapplicable in most languages that aren't ALGOL
17:54 ttmrichter Why have so many people tried to emulate it then?
17:54 * ttmrichter thinks he may move on to other tasks that aren't quite so demented.
17:58 robbrit what's the man or boy test?
