19:18 mikemol Not sure if langton's ant qualifies, because there's a single automaton walking a field. Not sure what that makes it, but it'd probably be similar to SNUSP in that regard.

19:21 mikemol No particular constraints on visual representation, I imagine. You could collapse one dimensions to produce a 2D display hinting at what's going on in the third dimension, or you could show each level separately, or you could (if you've got the tools available) splat up a voxel representation.
19:23 Hypftier back when I was working on 2D CA visualisation in JAMES we thought about 3D ones, too. I think the simulation code is there, there is just no formalism to support them

21:33 mikemol I think it's possible to classify ant (and any single-cell turtle graphic or SNUSP) as a cellular automata, given a sufficiently complex ruleset.
21:33 mikemol Given that Ant is a turing machine, that probably means you could boil a lot of things into a complex cellular automata.

21:48 TimToady I have this grid of cells I use all this time, 64 wide in one dimension, and much wider in the other dimension, and each cell is capable of representing White or Black.  :)
