01:35 TimToady I've been getting an awful lot of these lately: "Sorry! We could not process your edit due to a loss of session data. Please try again. If it still does not work, try logging out and logging back in."
01:36 mwn3d_phone1 joined #rosettacode
01:36 TimToady sometimes resubmitting works, sometimes it doesn't, but then, sometimes logging out and in doesn't work either...

04:27 lnettnay Hi all. Anybody know what's going on with the wiki? All the "(language) examples needing attention" pages appear to be empty of any actual examples. I've checked about 5 or 10 different languages and they're all the same.
04:29 mikemol TimToady: I got that once, but I thought it was a timeout.
04:30 mikemol Hm
04:30 mikemol lnettnay: Odd...
04:30 * mikemol tries some
04:30 lnettnay It's always nice when the site admin is available :D
04:30 mikemol lnettnay: There's a difference between the 'examples needing attention' and the 'unimplemented in $X' page.
04:31 mikemol 'examples needing attention' are things which exist, but which someone has marked as having problems.
04:31 mikemol http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Reports:Tasks_not_implemented_in_Forth
04:31 fedaykin "Reports:Tasks not implemented in Forth - Rosetta Code" http://rldn.net/B5r
04:31 mikemol Does that page show as empty for you?
04:33 lnettnay sorry mikemol  had a serious brainfart.
04:33 mikemol np. :)
04:36 lnettnay I like the site. I think some of the tasks could benefit with input data and expected output listings
04:39 * mikemol nods
04:39 mikemol There are always things which can improve.
04:40 mikemol I want to go through and do a couple Q/A runs on the tasks this year, find ones which aren't very good, and bump them down to draft.
04:40 lnettnay I like the live logs. Let's me see what's been happening

07:53 lnettnay any bash experts around?
07:56 sorear no, we're all too modest to say that.
07:57 lnettnay ok how about someone who knows something about command line ahndling
08:00 lnettnay I'm trying to do the Caesar cipher task and let the user have the option to input from the command line the text, key and encrypt or decrypt flag.
08:01 lnettnay If the last character in a quoted string is ! then I get an error "-bash: !": event not found"
08:02 lnettnay but if there is a space between the ! and the " no error
08:03 lnettnay It isn't happening because of the program because the bad command lines don't end up in the bash history
08:05 sorear when typing commands at the command line, you can't use ! inside "" strings
08:05 sorear ! requires use of
08:05 sorear ! requires use of ''
08:05 sorear 'foo!'
08:06 sorear bash has so many confusing corner cases that, if someone claims to be a bash expert, they are lying and you should ignore them
08:08 lnettnay okay that works but the thing that makes me doubt my sanity is that a space between the ! and the " makes it work
08:09 sorear Several characters inhibit history expansion if found immediately  fol‐
08:09 sorear lowing  the history expansion character, even if it is unquoted: space,
08:09 sorear tab, newline, carriage return, and =.  If the extglob shell  option  is
08:09 sorear seems to be documented behavior
08:10 sorear (this from "man bash" on a Debian system)
08:10 lnettnay thanks. I'm going to comment my program a little and submit it
08:14 sorear fwiw, I have *never* used this feature of bash, and have set +H in my .bashrc to disable ! specialness

20:55 mwn3d_phone I'm starting to think something weird is going on with the site...I can't view it on FF on my home computer and I can't stay logged into it on my phone using dolphin browser now
20:56 mwn3d_phone Never mind the phone part...it seems to have fixed itself
